Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Just to update on my test loads for N320: I have nothing to update, my range session was hijacked for professional reasons. Will update whenever I get the chance to spend a half day at the range. Greg
  2. I personally have not used Clays. Clays is known for being an extremely soft shooting powder, but has a reputation depending on who you asked for not being an accurate powder. I am considering giving it a try. Every pistol is different. http://data.hodgdon.com/cartridge_load.asp Clays load data is listed. Greg
  3. I have 270 rounds made using VVN320. Glock 17, completely stock. Using loads in SSP IDPA. The following loads should give me a variant between 125 PF and 132 PF. Load data off of Vihtavuori website: 8,0 124 FMJ-RN Lapua 29,0 1,142 N320 0,22 3,4 290 951 0,26 4,0 326 1070 MY Glock has fed all 9mm ammo, from 1.125 OAL to 1.165 OAL. Close to 10K rounds through it in 5 months without a failure of any kind. All rounds using FC brass, CCI small pistol primers. 30 rounds- 124 gr MG FMJ 3.8 gr N320 1.135 OAL .376 Crimp " " - 124 gr MG FMJ 3.8 gr N320 1.145 OAL .376 Crimp " " - 124 gr MG FMJ 3.8 gr N320 1.155 OAL .376 Crimp " " - 124 gr MG FMJ 3.9 gr N320 1.135 OAL .376 Crimp " " - 124 gr MG FMJ 3.9 gr N320 1.145 OAL .376 Crimp " " - 124 gr MG FMJ 3.9 gr N320 1.155 OAL .376 Crimp " " - 124 gr MG FMJ 4.0 gr N320 1.135 OAL .376 Crimp " " - 124 gr MG FMJ 4.0 gr N320 1.145 OAL .376 Crimp " " - 124 gr MG FMJ 4.0 gr N320 1.155 OAL .376 Crimp Will be chronoing these rounds Wednesday, will post results As I am new to reloading, I really do not understand OAL other than I know some pistols like certain OALs over others. Some say load long for accuracy, some say this and some say that. I have read thousands of post trying to understand it, for those that say it doesn't really matter I am going to have to disagree although I am doing so based upon the basic principals of physics and chemistry and nothing else, hopefully this non scientific data will give me a better understanding. If pressure is built up and a projectile is forced thru the barrel based upon this pressure, any slight variation in distance would seem to matter to increase or decrease accumulated pressure. I should have a better understanding atleast with what works best with MY pistol after I collect the data. Greg
  4. I have been using 4.1 Gr of TG, trying to find a load that is not as snappy. GK
  5. I use IMR 4895 powder in my .308 loads, so reading an earlier post caught my attention. after reading that post talking about the IMR SR 7625 powder I have done some research on it. I have not found any significant information on this powder, and as the post stated, if it such a great powder why aren't more people using it? I am actually considering trying it, what is $25 if you find your pet load. I have a new gun store opening up across the street from my office, he is going to carry N320 and other in demand powders. I also live within 15 minutes of STI, Dawson Precision, and Larue Tactical. Just getting into the shooting game and realizing I have a lot of tools around me. You, bucky lastard ... LOL .. My closest store is at least 30 mins away. IMR 7625 is good powder, try it, see if it works for you. Don't expect someone who came across great discovery (prospector, competitive shooter/reloader, and so on) to share what they got with everyone. I have been researching imr sr 7625 powder. Only data I can really find on it is major. I guess NOBODY wants this secret out. It is 40th on the burn chart right behind Power Pistol. I am picking up some VVN320 today, will shoot some rounds this evening and post. Greg
  6. When I compare my times to like shooters within same division and class, I am much worse at this one range. This particular range has a reputation of having simpler stages. I am curious if others have a range they excell at more than others, or ranges they may have developed a mental block against. Greg
  7. Does anyone ever experience not being comfortable shooting in a match at a certain range? I have 5 ranges within 45 minutes of my house that host matches every weekend. There is one range in particular that is very nice, but my comfort level is just not there on that range. I shoot more accurate, and much quicker during matches at the other ranges. I have charted and graphed all my stages at each match. I have no other explanation other than.....I am just not comfortable shooting at that range. Does anyone else experience this? Or am I developing a mental block and creating something out of nothing? Greg

  9. check your OAL die. You can take the die apart very easily. Remove the die, and take out the take out pin on the side, be careful because the guts will fall out. The seating cup is actually universal, takes round nose bullets on one side, and you can flip it over to a flat nose or a hollow point. If you are loading Round Nose and the flat nose plate is what is actually sizing it, then flip it. Also it is good to clean it out every once in awhile. Pay attention to how the guts come out, because it goes back together exactly how it came apart. Greg
  10. Try Manny Bragg at mannyusa.com and ask if he has the 147 in, he might... Manny Usa- Note: There is a Order Minumum of 6 Cases for bullet orders Looks like he has them in stock.....6 case minimum? Not going to buy that many bullets, although it is a good price, $276 per case of 3000X6. Montana Gold is only one week out on backorder, so thats not bad. 130 gr and 147 gr were the only 9mm I saw on backorder.
  11. Thanks for all the replies. Snappy is exactly how I would describe the 124 gr loads. $15 per 1000 extra is worth finding a load that feels right. Too bad they are on back order at MG. I am currently using CCI primers. Will there be any effect switching to federal primers? Greg
  12. I have been shooting pistol (glock 17) for 6 months, and have shot 4 matches in the last 4 months in IDPA, USPSA stock/production. Within the last 3 months I have started reloading on a Dillon 550B. I have really focused on learning the fundamentals of shooting, 60/40 grip, trigger control/reset, front sight post. I have come along ways in the last 4 months with shooting, but now I want to take advantage of a good low felt recoil load. I have searched and searched for 124 MG FMJ minor low recoil. I have copied and pasted, annotated and keep a journal of the data I have collected. After loading 4000 rounds over the last couple months of Unique, Bullseye, and TG, I have yet to get the "feel" of a round that I am looking for or one that I would consider my pet load. I am shooting 4.0 gr of BE, 4.1 gr of TG, and 4.8 gr of UNQ and they all make minimum PF, but non are ones I really like the feel of. I am considering WSF, Clays, and N320 to see if one of these powders give me the felt recoil I am seeking. I do not care if it is clean or dirty as I clean my pistol religiously. What powders/grains would work well with a 124 gr MG FMJ to give me the soft felt recoil I am seeking? Should I switch to a 147 gr bullet? What loads do you recommend? Thank for any information. Greg
  13. Degreaser was used to clean off the top of the slide and inside the slide to prep installing a new front sight post. Locktite was used and I personally wiped the excess away with a qtip. gk
  14. Howdy all, I have had an intersting last couple of weeks with my Glock 17. I am fairly new to pistols, I bought the glock for CCW and IDPA. I had Truglo nightsights installed at purchase by the dealer (a glock certified armorer) . I have 6000 rounds through the pistol and 2 weeks ago, my front sight post came loose. I returned to the armorer that I purchased from and installed the sights, he cleaned it, put some locktite on it and I waited 2 days and went to shoot again. This time my weapon went to slide lock and was stuck. After struggling to return it to battery, the screw inside the slide that holds the front sightpost had been seared off. I returned it to get checked out and fixed. They fixed it, I waited a couple of days and during my next range session I noticed it would not return all the way to battery again. I dissasembled my pistol and looked and it looks like the screw is backing out slightly, and it is rubbing the top of the barrel and preventing it from returning all the way to battery. I have an email thread back and forth with Truglo. Truglo is blaming Glock, saying Glock has widened the hole in the slide and reduced the depth of the hole the front sight post screw goes in. I am completely at a loss of what to do next. I have missed two weeks of competitons and range time and still have an inoperable weapon. Any help or feedback would be much appreciated. GK
  15. thanks for the help, primer seat cup is now seating properly. I loosended 13906 a little too much and the whole assembly popped out. Cleaned everything and put it back together and it seated. Second thing is I took out the two screws 14014 and cleaned everything with solvent as there was a lot of build up. After reassembly of the primer tube housing, primer seating is perfect, no primers are seating in the cup. Greg
