Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I got the Lee FDC, and that seemed to work. My last batch of ammo worked well. I'm also going to double check my powder funnel just to be sure its properly within spec. TDean - The gun is a Colt Series 80. Thanks to you all for your help. It is greatly appreciated! Kent
  2. Flexmoney - How can I tell if the case is squeezing the bullet properly? rhino - I don't think the rounds are making it to the top of the chamber, I think they are hitting the feedramp and stopping right there. I haven't had any setback problems with factory ammo (FMJ, JHP). The only feed problems I've ever had were with with Winchester WinClean ammo where the bullet is a truncated cone. (http://www.winchester.com/ammunition/store/cfhproductsheet.aspx?symbol=WC452) Run n Gun - I an using a new Dillon die set. I believe it is crimping properly. I measured a few rounds. They measured from .466 - .469. I checked one of the bullets that setback while shooting, and it measures .468. Thanks for your help guys! Kent
  3. Hello, I'm new to reloading, and I have a question about my crimp on the bullets. I'm using a Dillon XL-650 press, and loading Winchester 230gr JHP in 45 ACP. I'm using a mixture of Winchester and (mostly) UMC brass. My first batch (50 rounds) of ammo functioned flawlessly, but my second batch (125) had 3 or 4 failure to feeds. I discovered that the on the ones that failed to feed, the bullets were setback a ways in the case. I'm guessing that as they hit the feed ramp, the bullet was pushed back and then wouldn't feed properly? I took apart some rounds and the bullets that have been crimped have a definite line where they were crimped. It measures around .445 with my calipers, vs .450 on the non-crimped bullets. I made a few test rounds, and pressed them on my bench to check for setback. 2 were fine, and on one, the bullet got pushed back. I may try making a few more for a better sample size. So my questions (finally!) are: 1. Does it sound like my crimp is OK? Is it maybe too much or too little? 2. I've read that remington (UMC?) brass has some problems and that a Lee sizing die might be a good idea. Should I go get one? Will it just drop in and replace my Dillon die? Thanks in advance for your help! Kent PS: Is reloading going to be as addictive as it seems... I'm worried!
