i usually have a couple of shots of whiskey in my morning coffee. it's like playing darts when you're buzzed, you just focus and make good shots.....

Hey all,
So I have recently been trying to work on my AR to make it a bit more game friendly. I got a hogue (pretty sure) free float aluminum rifle length tube, but it didn't come with the block or anything else to mount it. Basically, I have no idea what part i need to make it work.
Hogue's website doesn't seem to list anything specific, either, so I'm not sure where to go.
Anybody know about this to help me out?
I'm going to cut my front sight off (cheaper than a low pro
) and put this puppy over it, I hope. No idea how to start though. Thanks,

I've done the same thing with multiple sear springs for multiple 1911s in pieces. It took a few times or checking springs, re-assembling, and repeating. I got it figured out, and it was the left sear spring leaf not lining up correctly.
Good news is I can detail strip and re-assemble a 1911 govt quicker than I can undo some bras...

Hey all,
I have been doing a ton of research, and thanks to this site, I've decided on getting a burris Tac 30 for my 3 gun rifle. But I can't find any!!! Midway sold out the day before I placed my order, and I can't seem to find one anywhere! They are back ordered till April at least.
Anybody know a reputable dealer online that has them in stock? I prefer the black, but whatever at this point. I have a big match in June and want to be comfortable with it by then.
I haven't decided the best was to mount it yet. Any suggestions on a nice base that won't cost more than the scope itself?

Man that's nice! How much do the slide cuts help so far? I've seen them done, but being from an IDPA background (don't hate) I don't have much hands on experience with them...

yeah we were shooting indoors and I totally forgot the double ear plug things... oh well, next time.
It seems like everybody is saying I should roll my own, but idk if I have the time or desire. I'm currently working 5 some odd jobs, so I'm hesitant to dive in.
I know it would be great, and I can get cheap brass... crap I think I'm talking myself into it...
In the mean time, I was thinking about a heavy guide rod and a scope mount to the bottom rail. she likes the dot sight and I have a few extra cheap ones sitting around, so that might help control muzzle flip, right ?

Hi all,
so I'm trying to get my GF into shooting, and she loves to play with the 22lr open gun I built for local steel. However, it seems that she is very recoil sensitive, and the M&P 4" I have with a 24 round mag is just too sharp for her.
I'm trying to think of ways to cut the recoil down and still be legal for a division of USPSA or local matches so I can use it, too. Trouble is, I don't load. I also don't want to spend so much money chasing parts that I would be better off with just buying a 2011 in 9mm (which I would be fine with!)
I was thinking heavy guide rod of some sort, and a brass magwell. It seems this would cut down on felt recoil, too. Could I put lead weight in the front of the gun other than in the guiderod, or is that a no-no?
Also, where is the best place to get these parts or others to accomplish a similar thing?

figured I should say Hi as I'm new around here, but not really new to shooting I guess. Have been doing IDPA and steel challenge for the last 4 years, mostly in Florida. Just getting into 3 gun, USPSA, and fun matches up here in PA. Damn this winter thing, really screws up match schedules.
Anyway, so far this sight has got me thinking about getting out of production and into limited, L10, open, etc, so thanks for helping me spend all my money!

wow, really great info and I'm impressed with all the happy customers. I've been thinking about adding a red dot to make a fun open steel gun (maybe on an existing M&P 9) and this may be the best option.
does anybody have this in a dovetail mount that's included or should I have the slide milled?

so maybe a dumb question... If I get myself a nice 9mm 2011 to start, couldn't I just build a 40 cal upper if I ever decide to go that route?

I have a nice Wilson combat kit, and I just built it into it's own 22lr 1911. I used an ria lower and parts I had around, and it ended up costing about $100 to do it.
Then I had the fit and feel of a 1911 without needing to swap parts all the time.
This opinion means squat though if you really want to train with a double stack frame

hmm, because as of now, I don't reload. I have been meaning to get into it, but haven't yet.
I was thinking with limited 10 I would run a 1911 with power mags, if I felt the need. And honestly, I don't think I'm good enough to run with the big dogs in limited quite yet.
I really wish there was a way to try these all out before I buy...

I would probably consider a single stack. Unless you're doing something where a double stack would be a clear advantage, it seems what you want is a STI Spartan for $600...not an $1800+ double stack that is otherwise the same in almost every way.
That's not even considering the cost of magazines.
Yeah, I think I have my single stack needs met. I feel like the 20+ rounds would be a clear advantage in 3 gun matches and USPSA limited minor, etc.

It sounds like you are trying to do alot with one gun. Although it is possible, it my not be the best idea in the long run. Make sure you do your homework on it all before you put out the cash.
I know, which I'm ok with. I have a great Les Baer Concept V for single stack, limited 10, IDPA and stuff, along with a walther p99 9mm if I ever feel like running production or IDPA SSP...
So I think one nice, high quality 9mm (or 40 if I can find a silly deal) would serve me well.
I don't think the 2011 would ever be IDPA, so I'm not worried about that. Just 3 gun, USPSA, steel, range use, etc.
I carry full size and mini 1911s, so I love the platform, and I think the weight would be fine for me, too...

I've been lurking for a while, and I guess this is my first major post, so might as well do it right.
Here's the deal. I'm looking for a double stack 2011 style pistol for competitions. Area shoots aren't so serious, and I don't load, so I don't think 40 or 38 super would be worth it. I'm fine with shooting minor for a while.
This pistol would be for 3 gun, Steel shoots, recreational matches and the like. I think 9mm would be the best, since it's cheap enough to shoot and my GF would be able to run it.
What I'm wondering is what's the best model to go with? I like the STI edge, since the full size appeals to me. Also, I'd like to eventually be able to put a deltapoint or similar in the dovetail for steel and fun, and then replace it with the irons when I need to. Is this feasible?
Where is the best place (besides this forum, I've been looking) to pick something like this up as inexpensively as possible?

a new guy to the forum checking in from near Reading, PA.
I've been shooting IDPA and USPSA for a while now, just starting to migrate over to doing it right (1911s and maybe limited soon, too). Wanted to say Hi and I look forward to a new source of good info.

I really thinking putting my SS through it's paces today (while saving pennies for a limited something amazing) made me realize how pure and fun a 1911 can be.
big holes, an amazing trigger, major power factor and then some. Plus I'm focusing on making hits and reloading constantly.
Besides having mags wrapped all the way around my back, I see no disadvantage. Plus it's fun. And it makes people think you know what you're doing
btw, this animation is amazing and should be used in all my posts, no matter what!
