First is LOP.  I tried to take off just enough so that it fit but that he could still use it for a few years.  I just recently had to refit it because he has grown 5 inches and it no longer fit.  But then you have drop and cant to put the line of the barrel directly perpendicular to the strong side eye (the rear sight).

Here is Patrick Kelley's article on the subject of fit: http://www.multigunmedia.com/shotgun-fit.pdf

Thanks Mark, this is such a good article. Patrick makes a black art subject understandable, even for dunces like me! B)

  2. My Nova has a plus five Nordic tube and a 24" barrel, The end of the tube and the barrel are almost equal with a flush, non extended choke. I can get 9+1 2 3/4" shells in my gun. I have added a long fiber optic front sight, opened the loading port, chamfered the entrance to the magazine slightly, polished the action bars and drilled a hole through the stock for a sling. Other than those things, it is stock. It has been very reliable and has been shot and dry fired a lot.

Forgive me for hijacking the thread, but can you elaborate on what you mean by 'polished the actions bars'? Is it literally polished to a shine with all the paint removed, or does it mean all the stamp lines filed flat too?

    Thanks

I only smoothed up the edges with a honing stone (sounds like I did the same thing Mr. Kelley describes) and honed the high spots, I did not polish them to a chrome like finish.

Thanks Hurley, it seems like a gentle approach is needed.

  4. Ok, I have another question that is very specific. Could anyone that owns both a gun that takes accuchokes/winchokes and a supernova hold the chokes up next to each other ( or better yet a micrometer) and render a guess how involved it would be to re-cut the benelli barrel to fit accuchokes? I know it could be done if I had the length of the choke cut off and started over in plain barrel - which wouldn't be a tragedy since I wanted the 24 instead of the 26 anyway. I know I would be making a mutt, but since I rarely ever sell guns, and never sell ones that I have gunsmithed on, I am the only one that would know. Plus, I already have one or two of almost every choke made for that system, and only having to grab one choke tube box no matter what gun I was shooting would be convenient. I also wouldn't object to NOT having to go out and re-purchase even a few chokes if I didn't have to...

For what its worth, I use the Standard Crio Plus chokes from my M2 (flush on the M2), as they become extended chokes for the SN. 1 set of chokes for both guns, providing you don't need to use both at the same time!

  5. I wouldn't do any grinding to the lifter, it can make a 100% reliable gun into a door prop if not done exactly right. I load 2 weak hand by turning the gun over, so for 1 I would run it dry, drop one in the chamber, load 8 and have at it. For 2 I would load 2 extra, pull the trigger on the way up and then pump and blitz ;)
