  1. Well 3.5 grains does not cut it. I drove by the house today and ran inside and grabbed the ammo and can and took a few shots. Yes I am lucky to live in the country and have my own range. The above loads would not cycle the slide with a factory recoil spring, one of the captive ones. I am going to move up to 3.8 or 3.9 grains tonight and give another try. My next step would be to move to the old guide rod which I have and start changing the recoil springs, I am currently stock. I do have a calibration kit but wanted to stay as stock as possible. Ammo fired and seemed accurate on a gong but brass varied from stovepipe to not even exiting the chamber. VERY quiet though, about as quiet as non-subsonic .22LR in a supressed bolt gun.
  2. Well I finally got everything lined up and when I got ready to load on Sunday night I find that my primer tray went missing after 5 years and 2 moves, go figure! Anyway I got a primer tray today and had a few little problems with the primer feed on my 550 but finally got it fixed (after having to pick up 98 primers from all over!). By this time it was 10:30 so I cranked out 5 and finished. I'll give them a try when I get home tomorow and see but settled on a start of 124gr RN Zero's with 3.5gr of VV320 and a OAL of 1.146. I may have to tighten up on my seating to 1.142 or so but we will see. Once I get this 124 dialed in I'll work on my 147gr bullets that I also have.
  3. Well shopping is completed I picked up a pound of VV320, WOW they are proud of their powders $29! But I'll try it. The local hardware store carries ZERO bullets by the pallet so I picked up 500 of the 124gr but backed off to 250 of Berry's 147gr, not sure if 147gr would be that great overall for plinking, match, supressed AND MP5 use. I'll try it... Just a few little things...yea right NEVER walked out spending $325!! Got a new set of dies, I had been given a set of RCBS dies years ago but never reloaded 9 so I opened it yesterday to place them in a 550 toolhead and found that the seating die was missing SO...a blue box with carbide dies made it's way back with me. Boy carbide dies went up over the years, I remember them at $45 not $69!! Tomorow will be a fun day spent reloading, nice thing now which I never had the ability to do before is load 2-5 rounds, walk a few feet and out the door, shoot then walk back in tweak and repeat! Ah...no more loading 15-20 rounds going to the range and having them fail so bad I have to pull them apart before I go back and tweak the loads.
  4. I am new to 9mm reloading but have loaded 10's of K's in .38 Super, 45ACP, 38/357 and 7mm TCU. Been about 8 years since I have reloaded but I have everything set up again and I am looking to make something up that would work in some informal Steel Challenge, IPDA and GSSF matches to be shot out of my G34 AND so that I can shoot it out of a G22 with a LWD 9mmm Threaded conversion barrel and a Semi-Auto MP5 using a Trident 9 supressor. I don't have TOO much problem reloading for a couple of uses but I'd like to keep the powder to something in inventory and bullet the same to keep my inventory low, I already reload several rifle and other pistol rounds. Thinking of a 147 or a 125gr FMJ RN and I currently "stock" 231, 748, No 5, WST, Titegroup, Ramshot TAC so I'd like to keep the powder to something I can use on something else easly. I actually have some IMR also but I forget which ones right now..mostly use that for the 7mm TCU. Any suggestions would be appreciated. A minor load for competition and something that would operate the MP5 supressed along wth the Glock and a 92F supressed both supressed and in competition would be nice this way I could just buy in bulk and just go to town reloading 1 round till' I drop!
  5. I tend to like it colder than hot, I am sure that the various governing groups have reg's against shooting in the nude! LOL It can get awful HOT at Pappy's in the summer!! I got my Blade Tech in the mail today but MidwayUSA.com did not list the double and single mag pouches (double stack) that I wanted. I have to find another stocking dealer of blade tech products and see who I can get it from at a decent price. I'll have to check Brownells since I can get dealer from them. Almost ready to get hot and heavy with shooting. I got a bunch of .40 ammo but got to load up 9mm now that I have a G34 to shoot I think that would be better than the G35 for recovery times. Got to search for some bulk 9mm tips and cook up a good load.
  6. I would like to but can't. I work on-call every 6 weeks and I just went on-call Monday morning so I'll be sitting by the phone waiting to get called to work the entire weekend. So far it's been quiet but we have crews that work during the day so not a big deal, only at night. Weekends are different I am the only person day or night available to work from Statesville to Kershaw and from York to Maxton so I tend not to do anything on those weekends but be a couch potato. I may go by and watch but don't like doing that either since phone coverage there is a bit weak. Waiting for my Blade-Tech items to come in the mail also but with all these weather delays it will be awhile, MAYBE the holster will arrive by Friday, it was due yesterday. Rich
  7. Elynch I was speaking about the LDA Limited MODEL not the classification LOL. Joe4D so what would you call "quality" ? Please tell me since it appears that over 90% of the shooters I have seen both at local matches and on the internet are shooting this "non-quality" holster.
  8. Richard I was speaking about a 1911 Single Stack vs the P14-45 not a P14 vs a P16. It's not a matter of tension when it comes to the SERPA or the FOBUS I have tried. Way too wide, it fits but it's not the tension screw, you could clearly see on the Fobus the holster looked like it was going to explode, it was busting at the seams. On the SERPA I actually purchased at the NRA convention the latest 1911 holster from them, they had their R&D people there and they stated there was a modification to the latest holsters and it would handle a little larger of a frame. I walked over to the PARA display and showed it to one of the managers who I had been speaking to and he walked over and stuck the display double stack into the new holster. It took both of us to be able to remove the gun from the holster, the locking latch snapped in but due to the extra width would not come up enough to clear the trigger guard. I thought for a few moments it would NOT release but after 3-4 minutes it came out of the holster. I was kind of surprised, I thought for sure they would have some idea of what holsters are made for their products but they looked at me like deer in headlights.
  9. Cool... Oh and Elynch...3 gun is what my final goal will be but I got to walk before I can run. Done plenty of rifle competition at the national level but I got to work on handgun and some shotgun before I go on 3 gun. I also need to work on a gun for that, seems that the Saga12 slightly modified is the popular gun out there, may search for one this year and try 3 gun next year. Either the Saga or thinking of a M4 but I think the Saga will end up cheaper as long as I don't go crazy with mods.
  10. Roy is your's a 45 or a 40 ? The 1911 and the ParaDouble stack are ever so SLIGHTLY different in width, I am going to take a caliper to them later when I go downstairs to the "armory". Yea I am a spoiled brat, the wife let me build a gun room when we built the house I love my wife! What I am wondering now is if the frames for the 40 and .45 are the same or also slightly different. I can understand the leather holsters working but the "plastic" stuff has had issues for me in the past since they are unforgiving as leather can be. I wish I had someone local that stocked Bladetech so I could try before I buy but I guess I am just going to have to buy a DOH. I plan on shooting my G35 also so I'll probably buy one for that first and see how I like it then buy one for the Para, I just hate returning stuff due to the added cost to return then the wait for the credit but I guess I'll have no other choice.
  11. I guess this would go for any of the Para doublestacks but what does everyone use for a holster? I have tried Fobus, and 2 versions of Blackhawks and it just does not cut it. Apparently the doublestack frames are a bit larger (wider) by a few mm and even though it looks like a standard 1911 holster would work you actually have to force it in. On the blackhawk product it took 4 hands to get the lock undone and out, on the Fobus product I found the quality to be VERY poor but when the gun was holstered the seam would split wide, tension was VERY poor and unuseable. I am actually looking for 2 holsters 1 to shoot production class and one for carry. Does anyone here shoot one of the P14-45's Limited LDA in competition? What do you all use to carry it? Rich
  12. North end as in York County...I was thinking of going to Pappy's for the Steel match on Saturday. Our plans for New Years Eve fell through and so did our plans for New Years Night so I was thinking of starting off the year right :-)
  13. Getting back into competitive shooting but I have been collecting for a long time. Started shooting at 8 and competing SmallBore rifle, by 13 I was shooting High Power Rifle National Match and went to Perry a few times before work, cars and women got in the way. Spent a few years as a LEO and in EMS but got into electronics and working on a family. Well fast forward to now, I got a bit of time and a bit of money, been collecting guns all of these years since I was 8 and I am 44 now. Built a house on property and I have a 100yd range so I have no excuise about time to shoot. I have not shot a competition since my first girlfriend and it's time to "get back home". My eyes are not quite what they once were so I have decided to take up competitive pistol shooting, it's a lot better for these peepers than 600yds with iron sights! So here I am, got a lot of learning to do as to classes, rules and where to find my mojo...Production, Limited, Unlimited ? USPSA, IPSC, IDPA, Bianchi, GSSF, NRA, PPC ? Lot's to learn and I hope to come up to speed quickly. I hear that there is a small informal Steel Challenge competition coming up on Saturday so who knows, I'll probably go. Rich
