  1. For full information, how are you guys modding your CR pouches to take the mags properly? I've heard of several different suggestions, just curious what everyone here is using.

(It's only semi-thread jacking-- it's relative to the OP!)

I tried the fix in the video above, but the magazine had too much play (front/back) for me so I did basically the same thing, only with the Glock insert. I grabbed an assortment of rubber washers from lowes and needed one of the thickest ones. The benefit is the Glock insert doesn't let the mag move front to back.

I still can't believe I have to jury rig a $35 mag pouch to work with the 2nd most popular pistol on the market.

  2. *disclaimer* I'm a mediocre C shooter, so take what I say w/ a grain of salt

When I started reloading (from WWB) heavier bullets w/ faster powder (makes a lighter recoil) I could tell the difference, but just a bit. Last weekend I got a chance to shoot unexpectedly and didn't have time to load any ammo. Picked up a box of WWB and I could feel the difference immediately.

My point is that for me, moving from more to less recoil was not as noticeable as moving from less to more recoil.

    YMMV

  3. I have an Armalite AR-24 pistol that is basically a copy of a small frame witness.

I would like to replace the mainspring with a wolff spring to lighten the DA trigger. I have read about other people doing this with good results, but I can't seem to find any instructions to do this. I am moderately mechanically inclined, but before I go tearing into my gun I was hoping to find a good set of instructions. I have tried several searches without any luck.

I found this video, but I'm not sure how similar that pistol is to the small frame witness.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

  4. I have been doing some reading over at CZForum and it seems that a lot of people over there report seating at 1.09 max COL. I see several people reporting lower than that, though with 124 gr bullets.

My gun is an iteration (most of the dies are the same or close) of an EAA witness which is an iteration of a CZ.... so this could just be a chamber issue.

The bullet is the correct diameter, but I think the shoulder is what is making the difference. If you look at the pictures the ogive is different than WWB.

    *edit*

I think I have found a thread describing exactly what I am experiencing.

    https://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=421949

Short version: the CZ (and therefore my iteration of a cz iteration) is a short chambered design intended for traditional conical ogive. Those bullets with wide ogives (great pictures in that link) such as precision will not work well in a CZ chamber without very deep seating.

Unless I have completely misread this (and PLEASE tell me if I have) I will need to order some different bullets. Perhaps some traditional ogive bullets from someone like MG. *sigh*, so much for saving money eh.

    * another edit* Some really good reading in case anyone else comes across this issue...

  5. Here is a picture of 4 cartridges. Apologies for the phone pics, but it's the best camera I have.

Here is the WWB in the barrel

Here is the precision 147 loaded to 1.15 (same as WWB).

    1.05

The WWB of course spins freely and does not touch the lands. The 1.05 does not either, but just barely. 1.06 will touch the lands.

What could I be doing to cause this?

  6. Greetings all,

I have a couple boxes of Precision 147gr bullets and some N320 that I am trying to work up a load with and I am having trouble loading too short.

Armalite AR-24 (EAA Witness iteration with cut rifling)

    VV N320

    Precision 147gr

I have read (after ordering them of course) that some people have had issues with the profile of precision molys and I think this is my issue. My original starting load was 3.1gr N320 and 147 gr precision moly set at 1.15". This is not even close.

To get the bullet seated far enough not to hit the rifling I have had to work down to 1.07". Lyman list the minimum OAL for 147 lead to be 1.05, but they do not have N320 as one of the powders.

Considering N320 is a fast powder and I am so close to the minimum OAL what are your thoughts on this load? Thanks in advance.

  7. Thanks again for all the responses.

The reason I had looked into WST was because it was a fast burning powder available at a local store at a good price ($21) compared to not very good prices for everything else. After reading your responses and a bit more research I think I'll wait a bit on doing anything with WST.

The two I'm looking at now are VV N320 and WSF. If I'm going to pay HAZMAT I'm going to order at least 4lbs. The difference is $30 over 8000 rounds (~3.5 grains per charge for N320 and ~4.0 grains for WSF) if my math is correct? It seems that both are popular but N320 is the Cadillac. I've seen a few more published loads for WSF, but I'm sure there are plenty for N320. Considering the cost difference is something along the lines of .3 cents per cartridge I don't mind buying the high end powder. Any reason I shouldn't get N320?

  8. The reason I was looking at WST is because it is one of the few locally available powders that is reasonably priced (saving me HAZMAT and shipping)and I saw a few loads posted for soft loads. Thanks for the responses, they are appreciated.

I think I should have been looking at WSF instead as there are a lot more loads for that, but unfortunately not in my manuals either. I can get WSF locally as well, which is appealing to me for obvious reasons.

Would something such as this be a good starting point?

  9. Greetings everyone,

I am a new member but I have been lurking and reading for a while.

I am brand new loader and I am trying to determine the best starting combination for my needs. I am shooting (USPSA Production) an Armalite AR-24 custom which is a forged iteration of an EAA Witness. What I would like to achieve from this load is accuracy, soft shooting, economy and cleanliness in that order.

From my reading I see that most prefer a heavy grain bullet with a fast burning powder. What are your thoughts on Winchester WST with a 147 grain bullet?

What about bullets? It seems lots of people are fans of Zero, but are turning to Montana Gold because of stock issues. Is here another more economical/practical option I should be considering?

Can anyone see a problem with using Fiocchi primers with this powder? They seem to receive good reviews online and I can get them locally for a good price.

Thanks for any help you can offer and for a great resource.
