  1. Well, it's over with. Doc pushed the appointment back the first time due to emergency surgery, so that's why it's been a while since I've posted here.

I had the surgery yesterday morning at 8:00. Gave me some gas, put the IV in and after he injected the anesthesia, I had about 5-8sec of feeling like I just drank a 12 pack then lights out. Apparently they moved me into recovery but don't remember any of that. Vaguely remember being wheeled to the car but REAL memory starts after I walked from the car to the couch after surgery.

The oxycodone is GREAT. No pain except a little after chewing mac and cheese last night for dinner. Set alarms during the night to take meds so I would stay comfortable. Did I mention the medicine is great?!! haha

Kept ice on all day yesterday and no swelling. Some moderate swelling today but the doc said ice won't do much good now. Tried letting the oxy wear off to see how much pain I was REALLY in. Turns out it is alot. Had to go back on it.

    Thanks for all the comments!

  2. Yep, CR speed is the way to go. Buy once, cry once. You can always save money on the holster/pouches by going with Blade Tech's lower end injection molded line. It's not kydex, but it works great for me and is INEXPENSIVE. I have 3 of the double mag pouches and the holster:

    Holster: http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=1396/avs%7CManufacturer_1=BLADE-TECH/avs%7CMake_3=1911/Product/SEMI_AUTO_PISTOL_INJECTION_MOLDED_HOLSTER

    Pouches: http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=41583/Product/DOUBLE_MAG_POUCH_W_TEK_LOCK

    CR Speed Belt: http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=10991/avs%7CManufacturer_1=RESCOMP/Product/CR_2001__HI_TORQUE__BELT

For right around $165, you can have a GREAT setup that you won't have to change for a long time.

*edited to add* The Blade Tech pouches and holster fit the thickness of the CR Speed outer belt REALLY well and the TEK-LOK is nice because you can adjust for the width of the belt and use that to raise/lower your mag pouches and holster to some extent.

  3. I'm going on a camping/flyfishing trip and cannot take a firearm. What are your suggestions on bear defense/avoidance?

    Any input is appreciated!!

Avoid the smell of food or blood near your camp.

I'd go fishing somewhere where I could carry a large revolver:)

    Good luck.

I'm going to the Black River in Arizona on the Indian reservation. Their laws regarding firearms leave "bending" room on the side of res police AT BEST! I am going with a guy who takes the trip every year and he's a gun nut. For him to request that I not take a firearm is suprising.

*edit* I do have my CCL here in New Mexico if that makes any difference. I have read entire documents on the res police website as well as some links from a friend who lives in AZ and has fished the black river. Please offer input if any of you know concrete rules for firearms and the res.

  4. Mods, feel free to move this topic because I didn't know exactly where to put it.

I am wondering how long it takes classifiers to show up in my USPSA profile when I look up my number.

I have been shooting USPSA since December and have 3 classifiers that show up under match results, but when I look up my name, only 1 shows up. Do I need all four before the rest will show up?

Funny thing is, it's not my FIRST classifier (ie. oldest) that shows up, it's one in between. I know I won't have a classification yet, but this boggles my mind. Seems like it didn't show up until after they fixed the server but these classifiers were entered WAY back when.

Any insight on this is much appreciated. Thanks!

  5. Having a $50/yr hosting package somewhere else would be a good idea, but another idea for future improvement would be to have redundant servers. I certainly hope that your SQL database ISN'T on your main web server, but if it is, get it off of there and put it on a separate server. If you're using Windows, look into DFS replication to create a redundant server. Both would have raid 5 at LEAST. You would also set up your primary web server the same way. It's hard to explain it in words, but since you're a server guy, I'm sure you get the idea. (you'd have 4 servers total)

Hard drives aren't the only things that fail...you need more than one machine. A better RAID configuration only protects you from HDD failure scenarios, not CPU, memory, and mobo stuff.

This all depends on how much downtime you're comfortable with.

  6. *snip*

Rob, I'd be talking to these guys.

    Talking? I'd be yelling....

If they man AND own/rent the equipment to USPSA, swapping the drive should have been a non-issue. If they're just managing it they STILL should have swapped the drive but could have been the reason they were supposed to call (which they didn't). Sorry, had to chime in again....LAME!!! This kind of stuff pisses me off.

Heck, for less than $10/month, I rent a web host with unlimited storage space, subdomains, addon domains, email accounts, etc and all my stuff is fully redundant. i.e. if the server my stuff is on crashes, it's already been backed up real-time to a redundant cluster somewhere else.

  7. You guys think it's a hassle with your credit cards? Try having someone get ahold of your debit card info and spending $1,100 of your actual money from your bank account.

    YEP, you're right on, there!!

Several years ago, ***-Mart employees were busted using the security cameras right above the POS systems to get pins. Needless to say, I was one of the victims. They bought $1200 worth of art from a store in El Toro, CA on debit. When it's debit, the bank has to research the charges BEFORE giving your money back. It took a week and I was a poor college student at the time. I told them I didn't like their way of dealing with it and I planned on keeping all my money in my savings account (with the same bank) and just transferring small amounts to checking every week. They charged me fees after 5 transfers between accounts per month. They got an earfull after that and indefinately waived all transfer fees for me.

  8. Pay them $7.87.

That gives you a 3 cent credit and will cost them far more to keep track of it than it's worth.

Then wait three months and start sending them dunning notices for the $0.03 they owe you. Plus interest.

    Yeah!!!!

  9. They are giving me percocet and I have read online that it may cause your pipes to "stop up"....Do I just drink prune juice or take an actual medicine?

On another note (regarding pain), they will probably have to remove a little bone on my lower left tooth. I have never taken more medicine than 2 extra strength tylenol for a fever when I'm sick. Hopefully the percocet will do a decent job with the pain and not make me sick to my stomach.
