  1. Well, unfortunately, I received my first DQ yesterday. I have nobody to blame but myself. A friend of mine was actually RO'ing the stage and I know he felt bad for having to DQ me, but, as he put it, I did earn it. This was the first time I had shot Limited vs. Production at any USPSA match.

    Here is what happened...

The stage was similar to my quick sketch below. While not exact, the basic premise of the stage was similar. Move forward engaging targets down one side of a "V" followed by retreating down the other side of the "V" engaging targets. So, I start the stage, move to my first stop, engage targets, move to my second stop and engage targets. While moving through the V, I reload moving from positions 2 to 3. So, I move to positions 4 and 5 and engage the appropriate targets. During my original walk through, I knew that I only needed the single reload (even with misses and makeups!). So, I didn't even put into my mind performing a reload on the retreat. However, my brain went into some odd, flashback, automatic, Production mode and decided that I needed a reload going from position 5 to 6. As I started performing the reload, I knew right away what I had done and even verbalized it loud enough for the RO and others to hear: "Why did I do that?" Needless to say, I broke the 180 while dropping my gun for the reload and got the "STOP" command. I was not mad, upset, etc. There was, as I stated earlier, nobody to blame but myself. I was just bummed that I let myself down and broke a safety rule when I try to pride myself in being as safe as possible.

During the stage briefing and walk-through, it was openly discussed amongst the entire squad that this stage pushed the shooter to be very, very cognizant of their 180. I was lucky to be the first shooter on the stage from our squad. I even made the comment that, I didn't care how well I did on the stage as long as I didn't get DQ'd. Only 4 shots away from finishing the match and it happened.

Hopefully, other shooters can learn from this or, at a minimum, add a little extra reinforcement in the back of someone's mind about these tight retreat stages and the ease in which the 180 can be broken.

  2. I think all of those 4" shotgun plates could be tossed in the trash

I agree completely. My light mod choke definitely choked on a number of those targets! Here is my Stage 7 and you can see me, at 32 seconds, shoot one target a number of times, me drop my shotgun, shake my head in disbelief, reengage and fumble with reloads. :D

    BTW, good job Jesse!

Also, big thanks to Ken, staff, RO's and ROTC's for all of their hard work and true professionalism. Great match guys and gals!

  3. Congratulations to all the winners!!!

For my first major match, I was OK with my 71st place out of 120 TO competitors.

This homey just ain't got game yet. ;)

BTW, there is a PMag with an Arredondo basepad on it somewhere in the woods just east of Stage 1. Needless to say, after a nasty double feed from this mag on the long range Stage 6 and the rifle on Stage 1 this morning, it didn't stay with me. It cost me more than 40 seconds for both of these double feeds!! Oh well, still probably wouldn't have improved my placement much!

  4. I know that this is not directly from the horse's mouth, but as far as dumping a "hot", safe'd firearm, I did speak to Ken Flood and several of the RO's at last month's CMMG match about this. The rules are not correct on the website regarding the abandonment of firearms. I was told by these guys that we will be able to dump a "hot", safe'd firearm just like USPSA and most other Outlaw matches. I know that this is how they were running last month's match. As far as 3 Gun Nation points, this match will NOT be part of the 3 Gun Nation Points Series. I know that all of this is not directly from the directors, but it is what several of them told me a month ago. Hope it helps a little!

I guess this is the part that is frustrating me the most. I've heard that dumping is OK, I've heard that I don't have to go to the meeting, I've heard a bunch of stuff, but it's all second hand. I really don't want to get there an pull a Neth. (Sorry Dave). It would be nice to have the actual match rules available to out of area folks more than a week before the match.

I completely understand! I do see that they cleaned off some of the items on the website! So, hopefully things will quickly come down the pipeline to us.

Where is the best place/town to get a hotel room for the match?

    Probably Columbia, MO.

Definitely Columbia. I have a room at the Hampton Inn off of 63 and 70 in Columbia.

  6. My wife just picked up a 9 Pro. I must say that I really like it, alot, and I am a diehard Glock fanatic!

Having said that, my wife's M&P Pro had a really gritty pretravel/take-up to the trigger. So, I stoned smooth the top of the trigger bar that contacts the firing pin block in the slide. This removed the grittiness, but the steps in the pretravel pull are still there. To eliminate this, I will remove the firing pin block and smooth out/radius the transitions on the firing pin block.

    Hope this helps!

  7. I am having problems with shells not coming out of the magazine tube when the gun is cycling. I believe the problem lies with the shell stop not disengaging. This problem is not consistent. It will occur randomly regardless of how many shells are in the magazine tube. When I manually cycle the action, the shell stop appears to be disengaging correctly.

This occurs when I manually cycle the rounds. I have not tested this under live fire conditions, but I do not think it should make a difference.

I have taken apart the gun and done a thorough cleaning. This did not work, and nothing appears to be broken.

Has anyone ever come across this problem? What did you do to fix it.

    Help.

I am running an FN SLP

I have seen the same thing happen with my brand-M shotgun. The gun has worked flawlessly in live fire. If you are using dummy rounds, the rims may be getting beat up and causing the problem. I have heard a few other folks see the same thing with used dummys. Check the stuff as suggested above but do go to the range and try it.

    Later,

    Chuck

    This!

I have retired a number of dummy rounds for this exact same problem.

  8. XM193 is not a load built for accuracy, it was built to military 5.56x45 Nato specs so it will functions flawlessly in an AR-15 rifle but for shooting for accuracy out to 200 yds in your AR I would go with the SMK's.

Yeah, I didn't expect any great feats of precision from the round. As I said, the precision of the M193 factory loads from my rifle was of no surprise. I wanted to use the M193 as a baseline for my personal load testing. I have used the M193 factory loads for years and, as you said, they operate flawlessly and I know what to expect from them.
