  1. Hey Quadrant, I replaced my front sight with a Lightning Rod from Brazos, 0.330x65x0.075, this may be the part number, 40-067-75. The attached pics are for RIA front and rear sight dove tails, at least for the Pro Match 40. My 40 already has an adjustable rear sight, so I stuck with it.

    Thanks...

  2. Yea it's a bit frustrating. I finally got the mag thing figured out. (Thanks to you guys) My issue deals with documentation and info. Tracking down what works with it and what don't is very time consuming at best. The crazy thing is that the gun shoots beautifully.

  4. Has anyone replaced the sights? I want to replace the sights on my 2011 9mm (51679). I have a couple of questions:

    1. What is the cut for this gun? (Novak is what I heard) I want the sight picture/presentation to resemble my STIs

I've been up on Dawson's and they have an adjustable sight for Para. (the cut is listed as LPA) They also have an adjustable listed for RIA 1911, however, it's slanted.

    2. Should the replacement sights fit the Para or RAI 1911 (Dawson's lists both mfg)

The fronts sights listed are for Para and RIA 1911. (They have different part numbers, however)

    Thank You

  5. Quadrant,

What I would do if you just absolutely nave to use the Taylor Freelance is to ink the mag base on the surface that hits the magwell and then take it to a local machine shop to be milled to correct depth.. Fortunately I have access to one . Option B would be leaving all alone and running the factory magwell ??

Think I'm going to go with option B for now. I am going to try to compile a list of items that works well with the RIA 2011 specifically the 51679
That combo (option B) is the one working for me ..For now anyway

Thank You for all of your help!!!!!

  6. I have the 51947 which shoots both 22tcm/9mm the frame is the same as your 51679 as far as I know. The only difference would be the addition of the 22tcm barrel.

I too bought and tried different mag wells and different basepads, none would work. The only magazine I did not try and I think it would have worked is the longer para mag, but I could not find one. I come to the conclusion that all frames are not made to the same specs in length. The people who have been able to run any basepads and change mag wells with no alterations seem to have the right length frame, ours seem to be just that little bit short.

To cure my woes I went to Numrich Arms and ordered the Para basepads for $8 and when they came in they did not fit. But for $8 I can file away and not feel bad. I beveled the front and the sides on the top and they fit like a glove. I then found some custom made pads ordered them, beveled them and they work like a champ. The bevel is not much and will not effect the operation of the base pad.

I suggest you order the Para basepads and experiment. The most you will be out is $8. I even ordered original basepads from Armscor and they would not even work with the Megar P-18 mags without being beveled.

Overall I love the pistol and for the money you can't go wrong. With the Mecgar mags and whatever basepads with a bevel you are still money ahead. You can put together 3 mags for the cost of 1 MBX.

Thanks for the info. I am looking into those basepads now. You can't go wrong with 8.00.

I tried out on of my friend MBX's. Fit perfect. No issues at all. (...they suppose to fit like a glove. Like you said, they are +3x the price of a mec-gar)

  8. Wow... Mine just don't work... Totally Pissed off now

I just got my para P18 mags and Dawson basepad pads w/arredondo inserts today.. seats great with 20 rnds in it

Argh!!!!! Which model RIA do you have? I'm starting to believe that these things are not created equal. I running (trying to run) the 9mm HC Tac model 51679. Did you do anything else to your gun?

Okay guys... I am running the 9mm Ultra Tac (51679). After researching the forums and asking questions, I bought the P18 mags, the Dawson basepads for Para and the Arredondo inserts. The P18/basepads/Arredondo combo won't seat at all. The stock mag works like a champ mind you, the combo does not.

So I tried putting the Taylor Magwell on. Guess what; the stock mag seats the combo does not. (Who knew) What did I miss guys. I've read and re-read that this combo works. What did I do wrong... H E L P ! ! ! !

Okay after further research the P18/Dawson baseplate/Arredondo insert does work. The problem was the mag. that I was testing was bent at the lip. Fortunate for me that I bought 6 of these things with 6 baseplates (now you know why I was pissed) The combo works with the stock magwell. It does not run at all with the Taylor Freelance magwell. So while I'm glad the gun runs. I'm still in need of a combo that runs with the aftermarket magwell. I know for a fact that the MBX's work, however they are very expensive. Hell six mags will cost more than I paid for the gun. Assistance needed.

  11. Ok. So my eyes are now blurred from the posts on this. What is the general consensus on magazines for the RIA 9MM (51679) ? Excluding the pricey mbx/sti ..

It's looking like the Para p18 mag and Dawson basepad ? Is the working combo or did I miss something else?

I have that with the ramped barrel. What I use are the Mecgar p18 magazines(same as OEM just different floorplates) with Dawson para extensions, but you also need the Arredondo insert at the bottom to keep the rounds from rolling over the follower.

Using that with factory follower and spring, I get 21 rounds reloadable. If I use TTI spring and follower, I can get 22 reloadable, but you have to trim down the edge of the follower or your gun will lock open with one still in the mag. You have to trim a lot, so it gets unreliable that it will lock open when empty.

I use the factory magwell, so I do not know how well/if this combo works with aftermarket ones.

Thanks .. I did find this video last night if it helps anyone.https://youtu.be/PyrF1vxpHZI

    Thank You!!!

  12. Hi, What I'm asking is does that combo (P18/dawson) function with the Taylor Freelance magwell. I understand that the combo runs with the stock magwell.

I like the look of that Taylor Freelance but didn't want to risk having to go through that mag game again.

    Thanks again.....

  13. I, as well, think it is riduculous to try and give out distances to targets before the match. Stage design wil change due to conditions on the range, space availabilty etc..(anyone who is a match director or stage designer knows and undeestands this)

People should focus on shooting at a variety of different ranges and positions....those who do, tend to be the ones that win matches, IMHO.

This will be my first major 3 Gun match, and I can't wait...unfortunately, I don't have anywhere to practice 450 yard rifle shots...sucks to be Canadian, and not allowed to shoot our AR's on private property...range use only.

Thanks to the organizers of this match, I am sure it will be fantastic!

If you don't think it is important to know the distance to targets then why are you sorry that you can,t practice those 450 yd. shots that you know you are going to be have to make at the FNH match?

I think it was mid-way through

"People should focus on shooting at a variety of different ranges and positions...."

Ideally, people know their ballistics anywhere from 0-500 yards if they have the facility for that. If you do, knowing the actual ranges for the match is a moot point since you'll know all your bullet drops. If you don't have the facility for that, knowing the actual ranges is still a moot point because you can't practice them anyways.

I know my handgun to 50y, slugs to 100y and rifle to 300y. Beyond that with the rifle and I have to rely on ballistic tables or on-the-fly corrections. Having said that, it doesn't mean I will make these shots in the match :)

After huffing and puffing through a stage, trying to make even a 200y rifle shot can be tricky.

I agree with your post but, now that Larry has mentioned 125 yd. slug targets, I would bet that the smart shooter would practice those shots before going to the match.

Rifle, I don't care about distance. Because of the accuracy problems with slugs, I like at least a good guess on

distance and size of the target.

I have no idea where to hold on a 125 yd target with my shotgun. Now I can find out before the match.

That is the purpose of my original question.

    Knowing is half the battle!!!

Spoken like a true GI Joe fan
