  1. Tried it out this afternoon with the 13lb and it seems to be working fine. I will give another try tomorrow to be sure.

Running a 15 lb spring in my 34. It eats most anything. I've seen guys running 13 lb springs break locking block pins using factor winchester ammo.

  2. Your runs look Great. Are you still using the same match ammo?

    Yes sir I am.

I have a few ideas as to what the issues are. I am hesitant to junk this gun because it has worked well for me for so long.

Well, If you decide to "junk it" I am gladly accepting donations of Elite II's :D

  3. Thinking about getting one of these barrels for my Glock 22. Won't get into the lead bullet debate, I have reloaded and shot cast bullets in my Glock before, but figure to increase my shooting and figure what the heck. Around 100 bucks from Midway seems to be good insurance. Want to know if they are as accurate as stock, chamber tighter etc? Anyone have experience with the brand? Says it is a complete drop in fit.

I bought one a couple weeks ago. I agree with what others have said about the throat being too tight for coated lead. If you get the OAL correct it runs pretty well but, I may contact them and see if I can get it opened up a little. Other than that, I would say it is a great barrel for the money. Mine is accurate and locks up tight.

  4. My first match of the year is on the books! It is a bit of a mixed bag as far as news goes.

Firstly.. I felt really good with my shooting. I had 14 Cs and a handful of extra shots on steel. For the most part I felt pretty aggressive. My gun handling was not really perfect… but other than that everything was alright. In short, I am feeling like I am on a whole new level with my shooting.

On the downside, my match gun no longer is running. I had 2 death jams and one minor jam over the course of an 8 stage match… this from a gun that other than needing a new extractor in 2009 has been flawless. This year I changed magazine springs, the extractor, the firing pin, the firing pin springs, and the extractor spring. Everything should be working properly but it really isn’t.

In any event, the gun problems destroyed my match. I am glad I discovered them early in the season. I am going to get this gun fixed or junk it.

  5. I too started using presicion 125 FN bullets. I am running them in a G34 with a lone wolf barrel. I am currently using 4.2gn of HP38 with an OAL of 1.085. If I go any longer, they engauge in the rifling and it is very hard to eject them and empty the chamger. Even at 1.085, the are still hitting the rifling slightly but not enough to cause and obvious issue. My question is how do I know what the minimum OAL that I can run is without causing the pressure to go through the roof?

  6. I just started reloading with coated lead in my G34. The stock barrely would lead up in less than 50 rounds so, I replaced it with a Lone Wolf. I have to say that lockup is great and the gun just runs smoother than it does with the stock barrel. I shot a league last nigh and it appears to be very accurate. So far, I am very pleased with the LW.

  7. I am currently loading precision bullets and it is going well. I have to say they shipped them to me VERY quickly. Great service from those guys.

I have been batting around the USPSA category awards idea for awhile now. I think we need to drop military and LE category and add high Rudy Project Shooter category.

Hi Ben, What powder are you using behind coated bullets?

    Thanks

Solo 1000.. the rumors are true.. it is somewhat low smoke.

    Thanks!

  9. With the demise of Black Bullets International I had to go elsewhere for bullets. Precision makes a comprable product. I already have ordered about 15k bullets from them and they seem to be just fine to me.

I can't wait to get to the live fire.

Ben, Thanks for the tip. I plan on placing an order and starting to reload within the text couple of weeks.

  10. So far I've isolated to two of my 4 mags. I'm using factory 10 rounders. Stock recoil spring, not sure what the # is but didn't change out anything. I was using factory new ammo, PMC & Fiocchi 115 gr FMJ.

I was going to load my mags to top and let them sit for a while. Not sure if that will help.

    Thanks,

    45

Mine did that when it was new. The magazine srings were so tight that it pushed the rounds up against the slide to the point that it would not cycle reliably. I loaded all my mags full and kept them loaded in between shooting sessions. Once the springs relaxed, It began to cycle fine. 6K rounds later, It's still running like a top!

  11. I have to clean the extractor on my P226 every 1000-1500rds or so, or else it'll start throwing FTE's on me. And it's a PITA to take out. Other than that - and I don't think it's typical - it's a pretty good pistol. I just wish they made one with a 5" barrel and alloy frame (DA/SA that is).

I have never shot a SIG but, it looks to me that the bore axis is pretty high above the grip. After watching guys shood IDPA with them, they look like they recoil quite a bit. Granted, most of the ones I've see were in .40 but even still, compared to say, a G35, the SIG looks like a handfull. Do you find this to be an issue?

I've never taken a close look at one, but I'm pretty sure the bore axes of the P226 and the pistol you bear the namesake of are virtually identical. It's a non issue for me. Watch some of my videos and you'll see how mild the muzzle flip is with a proper grip and a modicum of grip strength.

I run a 14lb Wolff recoil spring for ammo around 135pf. Works great.

I was not trying to promote Glocks even though I compete with one right now. I started with a 92FS. If it had a replacable front sight and was a G model, I'd still be shooting it. I hit the saftey on or, forgot to turn it off too many times. Getting my hands on an Elite II G was just not practical. I think Ben has most of them at this point. :P There is nothing like shooting a metal gun in my opinion.

  13. Btw there is quite a lot of matches south of the border all year round and few more north of the border at the Summer season. That should be cheaper then going to Europe. ;)

Well... That is true... but my budget is aleady maxed out with a few section/area matches and then Nationals. I can shoot pretty much everything in driving distance then fly to Nats... I am tapped out after that.

    Well Ben,

With what you have accomplished this year, I would think that Some sponser would want to step in and help offset the costs. You have gotten where you are on your own but, maybe it's time for some corpoate cash to come your way. I don't know of anyone elses at your level, sooting the nationals in an all black jersey.

  14. Turn up your vision!

    be

Thanks, I'll try to remember that. Where do I find the adjustment knob? :roflol:

But, honestly, I understand what your saying, It's going to take time though. I dont have the resources to shoot 30k rounds a year so the best I can do is lots of dry fire. It helps alot but, I have a hard time carying it over to live fire many times.

  15. I am still having trouble with it on moving shots be I think it's starting to happen.

    I'm not following you there?

On shots that I take while on the move, I still stuggle with front sight focus. I think because I have to apply some of my focus on other things such as walking and not running into or tripping over anything.

I shot a local match on Saturday. For the most part, I did well with sight focus and again my accuracy actually suprised me much of the time. I think I'm onto something! Now, I need to learn how do it faster.

  16. I am headed back home today.. I should get back to the states in the middle of the day tomorrow.

I learned a lot at the World Shoot about how to train for these types of events. I had a dog shit match... and I feel I can only do better next time.

I really am looking towards more training now.

I will post lots more details and video when I get home.

Awsome job Ben! I tried to follow the scores on the IPSC wold website but, I couldn't even find your name on several of the stages. I wouldn't call second at the world shoot dog shit but, no one knows how you perfomred better than you. You have had one hell of a season. I cant wait watch what you accomplish next year. :sight:

  17. I started to remember to focus on my front sight the other night at a league i belong to. For the first time I started to put a hard focus on my front sight and trust what I saw when the shot broke. My accuracy improved greatly! I am still having trouble with it on moving shots be I think it's starting to happen.

  18. The last day, I started to feel match pressure like I NEVER have in my life. I could not hold my hand stable when I loaded up for the standards stages. I had to take a full 2 minutes to make ready for one stage just to make my body calm down so I could shoot.

    Ben,

It's nice to know (for me, not you) that this happens to guys even at your level. It doesn't seem that many pro level shooters admit to feeling that but, then again, not that many share as much info as you do. I guess learning to control it is where real skill comes into play.

In your video, you look so smooth that it doesn't appear that you are moving that fast, even though, we know you were flying! Take that same attitude and momenton with to the World Shoot and you will rock there too.

  19. Awsome Job Ben! I've been looking for results all weekend and found nothing until Dave Sevigny posted a congratulations to Ben Stoeger for his fist Production Nationals win on Facebook. Looking forward to seeing the video. It looks like you are about ready for the World shoot!

  20. I shot 2 back to back classifiers this week. One in ESP and the onther in SSP. I missed ESP EX by about 3 seconds AGAIN and in SSP I went from UC to EX. I used the same G34. The only thing I had to change was the guide rod. I simply went to the safe table, pulled out my guide rod and spring and threw the stock setup back in. The real kicker is that I shot 111 seconds in ESP and 109 seconds in SSP. Go figure. Both times my stage one time was terrible (36+ and 38+ secs), and then stages 2 (26+ and 27+ secs) and 3 (48+ and 43+ secs) were pretty good. Actually, I crushed SSP stage 3 at less 43+ seconds. I guess I need to go back and work on my short game.
