    I ordered it last week got it in three buisness days! I forgot to order a scale when I first placed my order. I called Brian the next day and he was able to add it to the order before it shipped saving me the extra shipping! Great customer service!

    I know a cheap bastard who extended the tube another 2 1/2 feet up with a piece of copper pipe. That allowed him to triple the number of shells it would hold before he had to refill the tube.

    Actually I bought a bunch of clear 5' tubes with the same dimensions as the stock tube. It holds about 70 .45 shells. I have 5 of them so I kind of use them like gun magazines. Load all of 'em up then then just replace them when one is empty. Cheap bastard? Yes. I bought the press w/o a casefeeder on craigslist but it was brand new. I hope to afford the feeder some day, but it gets the job done for now.

    Just go for it.

    I like the extra tube idea... Kind of like having extra primer tubes!

    I'll have to look for them at the local hardware store..

    might as well buy a 550 and call it a day if you dont want a casefeeder

    I plan on adding the casefeeder later.

    However:

    1. It does auto index whether it is truly a speed advantage or not.

    2. It is upgradeable in the future

    3. I don't have to keep my head moving from the left side to the right side of the press.

    4. I don't have to take my hand off the handle for 20 rounds at a time.

    5. After 20 rounds, I can do a powder level check, primer level check, quality check and then just drop another 20 in the tube.

    6. It might also look better to a spouse not to drop another 200 plus on the initial outlay. Or maybe it might look better to me! :)

    I am pretty sure about I will have one before 2011...

    If the scale has a .1 grain error and you are measuring 4.2 grains, you may be getting 4.1 to 4.3 and could be in error .1 either way.

    If the scale has a .1 grain error and you are measuring 16.8 grains, you may be getting 15.8 t0 17.8 and could be in error .1 BUT... that would only be 1/4 the error at 4.2 grains. (.025 x 4 cases equal the .1 grain)

    I don't know if that made sense to you or not? Measuring 10 cases at 42 grains would get you down to .01 error.

    This is all assuming your powder drop is dropping equally each time..

    I am seriously considering a 650 w/out a casefeeder in the next few months. I do plan on adding it later.

    I don't mind stopping every 20 or so rounds to top it off and check what is going on. I have to stop every 100 anyway to top off the primers..

    I have only used a friends Square Deal so far but don't want to have to trade up in the future. I like to buy once. I still have tools over 30 years old and take care of my stuff. I'm only loading 45 acp in the foreseeable future.

    I'm also one of those guys who reads manuals and loves to tinker with stuff so I think I will be alright. As a matter of fact, I've already downloaded manuals for all three Dillon presses and read them online.

    Did anyone ever use the 650 w/out a casefeeder and have any suggestions?

    I'm corporate so I don't have a plane of my own. I just fly the boss around!

    I used to instruct and have time in a lot of single engine piston and several twin engine piston. Now it is mostly jets and don't spill the coffee stuff.

    Still a lot of fun and you can't beat the view from the office! (unless it is one of those nasty thunderstorm days!) :)

    I am enjoying the site and learning a lot...

    I can see where graphing would be very helpful.

    It was a starting place for me.

    It also seems that the 4.2 loads are more consistant. ie a spread of only around 20 fps from slowest to fastest whereas the weaker 4.0 loads had a spread of around 50 fps. 700 to 750 seems like a lot of variance while 730 to 750 not so much..

    That was my original question that I did not word very clearly. What would the normal spread in velocity be for a given load of 45 acp?

    Just another new guy from Charleston, SC.

    I'm a pilot and an older guy in my 40's.

    I recently got interested in IPSC and have shot at a couple local matches. That got me interested in loading to a specific power factor. I have a friend who mentored me and allowed me to try out his Square deal press. Now I'm spoiled and drooling over Dillon presses at Brian's store and looking at the nice setups on Brian's forum.

    Hello,

    I'm new to reloading and new to shooting IPSC.

    With a friends help and assistance, I loaded up some 230 grain LRN (Home cast) bullets and WST powder. I've started with two different loads (4.0 and 4.2 grains).

    I was suprised at the differnce in velocity. What is the normal amount of change in velocity between rounds of the same load?

    I will have to start over once my gun gets back from Colt as I have been trying them with my short barrel Kimber 2.75 but am enjoying the experience and learning curve.

    The 4.0 loads are getting anywhere from 605 to 658. Kimber 2.75 barrel

    The 4.0 loads are getting anywhere from 685 to 725. Colt 5" barrel

    The 4.2 laods are getting anywhere from 673 to 696. Kimber 2.75 barrel

    The 4.2 loads are getting anywhere from 767 to 787. Colt 5" barrel
