  1. So then, you call your shots, sometimes.

    :sight:

Right. Just being facetious. After two years of shooting I'm realizing that if I want to be more than a mid c shooter I will have to do more than just shoot. I've always had a sharp focus on the front sight but never committed to shot calling. Starting just recently I will am working on that along with starting some dry fire practice and more range time. Generally just putting in more practice and thought into what I must do to improve. You see, unfortunately I have no natural talent for shooting so I will have to do it the hard way.

  2. I dont understand the importance of keeping count either but as they say "different strokes for different folks". I see these ads all the time for a gun or reloader and they will say something like 18,000 rounds through it. Surely they are just guestimating. I've been shooting a couple of years and I have no idea how many rounds I've shot.

  3. IMO: these types of stages disadvantage the taller, heavier, or less agile shooter in the match. Sort builds in a handicap for the younger, more flexible shooter, especially when going prone positions are in the middle of the COF.

You know every COF I've shot favors all of the shooters that are faster and more accurate than me regardless of whether or not you must go prone. :angry2:

  4. The girls are still young enough that it's fun to do whatever Dad is doing. (I expect that may change before they become teenagers). The 2-year-old likes to case gauge the ammo.

And for some reason, loading seems to go slower when I'm using the automatic-bullet-feeder attachment.

    Garrett,

You have a great looking, actually beautiful, loading team there. I'm jealous.

  5. Hey gents, I have a 1050 as well as a 650 I got second had... these loaders didnt have much use on them but, they were in storage for a few. On both case feeders the clear part where the switch is has yellowed and looks like crap. They work perfect though... the case tubes are also yellowed and look kinda gross.... additionally, the adjustable nut that holds the bar for the powder drop is yellowing too... Does anyone know if Dillon will take care of this or am I just stuck with a aesthetic problem? Like I said, these function perfect but, it does make the press look a bit dingy.

    Thanks for the help!

I would just wait until after the election. If obama is re-elected (Noooooooooooo!) you will probably get them free as part of the wealth redistribution. On the other hand, if Romney is elected (fingers and evertyhing else crossed) you will have to find a way to buy them yourself just like its supposed to work. Just sayin.

  6. Seems to me the easiest and quickest thing to do would be to slap the old guide rod and spring back in to see if that corrects the problem. I put a new guide rod and spring in my wife's glock 17 and sure enough at the match on saturday she had a problem with a failure to feed on the first two stages. Went to the safe area and put the factory guide rod and spring back in and had no problems on the remaining 3 stages.

  7. Been loading .40s&w for a couple of years with no problem but just started loading 9mm and every 20-50 cases dropped down the tube the case feeder binds up because there are 2 casings in one of the slots of the large pistol plate. I've taken the plate out and put it back in several times to no avail. Looks to me like there is too much room between the outer edge of the plate and the removable portion of the case feeder wall which allows the double case problem and I see no way to correct this other than jury rigging something. Any ideas for a solution?

  8. How did you "tilt" the chrono? Side to side or front up/down? You need to have the sensors as much in a straight line with the bullet travel as possible. Having the sensors tilted up/down in relation to the bullet path essentially changes the distance between them.

Up/down would usually show a higher fps but you may not have been level to start with.

It was pretty much level when I started and when I tilted it I raised the front .5" - 1". I really think it was this that caused the change in the average fps and not the shadows being moved over the sensors.

  9. OK, a little bragging, and an enquiry.

Ever been to Red Lobster for all-u-can-eat crab legs, but you spend the whole meal cracking and the rest of the family enjoys the fruit(meat) of the labor? Well, that's me reloading.

Amazing how fast the teenager can burn through 200 .40s&w in his STI, but he has shown an interest in reloading recently, especially once I started precision loading .223.

Then an awesome thing happened this weekend: my wife asked me if she could help with my most recent batch of .223! And it turns out she's better at it than I am!

That's not to say she can punch em out faster, or knows how to safely fix a hiccup in the process better than me, but her attention to detail is better than mine (I was ADHD before ADHD was cool, I think...).

We get finished with 200 rounds, and she says "I would feel a lot better if I just measure final weight and OAL of every one."

What?!? OK, baby, you get right after that, I'll start on the next batch.

So we spent Sunday with precision reloading activities in the garage. I gotta tell you, it was kinda romantic. Now I have enough data to justify making a Gaussian distribution plot with a few minutes in a spread sheet.

SO my question: how many folks reload as a family, have brass sorting parties, etc? Maybe a poll is in order?

Does red lobster still have all you can eat crab legs? If so I'm all over that.
