It's not only the noise, it's the concussion. I love the comp but it gives me a headache when I am shooting from certain benches. It is the cat's ass though when it comes to muzzle rise, none at all.

+1 or the SJC.It;s super flat when using the right loads but the concussion is BRUTAL!! especially for the RO or anyone standing off to the side of the shooter. I've considered using cotton balls or foam earplugs in the nostrils to reduce the pressure in my sinuses

Ok, for those of you shooting hand load 55gr, what is your bullet of choice? Like I have said, I have only been shooting the cheap stuff meaning any off the shelf 55gr fmj, American eagle, umc, etc.

I like the hornady 55gr (I buy them in the handy 6000 pack).

+1 Great bullet. I use the 69 SMK for 300+. The 69 is a bit more accurate out of both my 16" and 18" barrels, and they do rock the steel a little better at distance. For the majority of my shooting, the Hornady 55's do just fine. cheers.gif

Let's not exaggerate...we don;t want people to be disappointed. Those pistol paper were 75 yards. Some of the pistol plates were over 25 yards on stage 4 last year. Smoke was rolling out of my Glock. Started with SG, birds and slugs mixed. Then a 40 yrd run. Shoot a couple of dozen pistol. Then I got to pick up my rifle and sprint another 150 yards thru the woods, shoot some paper and steel, run another 50 yards out into the middle of a field, take a sitting position and shoot some flashers from 100-175 yrds. Took be over 3 minutes.

Nice thing was the golf cart that picked each shooter up to take them back to the start postion so we did not have to wait for everyone to walk all the way back. Nothing beat Rockastle hospitality.

    :)

Lots of running on this one, and no way to go prone (as far as I remember) a the last position because of the grass...

Stage 4 was one of the more physically challenging stages. Lots of running with an additional 10lbs of mud on your boots if you ran it after (during) a rain shower. I needed that golf cart to carry me back.roflol.gifBRM3G is one of the most fun and challenging matches I've attended. I hate that I'm going to miss it this year.

  4. Same here. I still find myself at times tapping the FA because I was trained to do it. But I dont think it's ever been necessary. About the only time I can think that it would be useful is when riding the bolt home with the charging handle for noise discipline.

I do like having a forward assist in my rifle, but I think it's just cause that's what we had in the Marines. In my 8 years in the Corps, the only time I ever used the forward assist myself, or saw anyone else use it, was when we were using blanks and BFA's (blank firing adapters). Blanks and BFA's really gum up the works. But even then, if you just put a few drops of oil on the bolt through the ejection port, it would run again.

  5. Definitely beats buying a new barrel. Do you get any pressure signs with that?

Did I mention that my port cover is a 2 inch piece of metal house number that I cut, peel the sticky cover off, wrapped it around and put a Nordic clamp over to hold it in place?

Sent from my PG06100 using Tapatalk 2

  6. What was the bad review on the Nordic bolt handle? I had one that could be pulled out of the bolt a little too easy, but I fixed it by peening the edges. Other than that, it's good to go.

  7. Bought a 24" JM930 yesterday afternoon. This gun feels and handles very similar to my SLP. I like it so far....o except for that I almost tore my thumbnail off doing practice reloads with it last night. The carrier wil be off to C-Rums tomorrow.
