  1. This is the first time Ive been on the forum for over 6 years.

The new format doesnt concern me, but I do worry that new shooters and shooters out of the top 16 have a loooonnnngggg wait to the presentation dinner. Also, they are giving up a whole week as they shoot midweek.

A better format would be have everybody shooting over the weekend and the top 16 shooting off on the Sunday or Monday

  2. BTW there is more to this than meets the eye I bet.

Beware of the long grass guys!!!

I think Luca would be well aware of them and the pitfals associated. He did shoot a 1920 in 2009. But not so good in 2010 I understand.

He shot a car in the practice range in 2009 as well!!!

  3. As I travel from OS it doesnt really matter, however if it stays on Memorial day weekend it would be better for locals if shooting finished Sun and travel home holiday mon.

3 days is a long time for people shooting 1 gun. In Aus we have changed things a little so that only 2 gun shooters shoot 3 days and 1 gun shooters 2 days.

2 full days of shooting would give you 240 competitors and the third day would allow 120 shooting a 2nd gun- this is based on mover through put.

We try and shoot 2nd gun in one day (4 events) to get it out of the way, and then all competitors are competing equally with their primary gun.

Therefore based on Memorial day weekend, a 1 gun shooter could fly in fri night shoot 2 days, presentation sun night and fly home mon.

  4. Oh boy, why did you have to go there??

There has been alot of talk over the last 3 years about altering the 4 matches shot, and at the end of the day, the shooters voiced strongly that they supported the exisiting matches.

In the past they have run the upper mover as well for the lower grades and therefore the through put is much greater. Realistically you are looking at about 60 competitors per day per mover, and with 200 competitors, 2 days is all you need.

The problem with Bianchi is the super thin string they use on the corroded pullies that are not maintained, and the constant breakdowns. This will get me in trouble, but that is the truth of the matter.

  5. Ok, I understand what Kevin and Richard have said and agree, but will try and explain a bit better.

    1. Stand with most of your weight in left leg, which is slightly in front of right leg

    2. Draw gun and get the muzzle well out in front and near parallel to ground

3 . Bend left leg and at the same time place left hand on mat and kick the right leg back.

    4. left hand and right leg take your weight while the left leg is kicked backwards and the right hand and gun are placed in their final position

    5. do not slide right arm as wife does not believe the explanation for the carpet burns.

    6. finally, grunt like an unfit hog, and you should be pretty right from here.

    7. grunting is optional if you are under 40 and fit.

  6. Actually, if I had been shooting a 45 a few years ago at Bianchi, that 8 on the mover would have been a 10.

Kevin, I can still picture that hole in the target. If only you could carry your own targets the the score shed. You would have won easily LMAO

  7. I think the interpretation here is that every "first shot out of the holster" has to be fired double-action. According to the rule book though, a "stage" is each yard-line......i.e. the 10 yard "stage" on Barricade involves both strings of fire from that distance.

    Alan~^~

Each Stage out of the Holster, 1st shot MUST be fired Double-Action.

    NRA Pistol Department

The rule book has Courses of Fire (events), and in that event it has stages which are each Yard Distance as correctly outlined by Alan. Each stage has two strings. Therefore the literal wording requires DA first shot each stage, not each time out of the holster (string).

Therefore if the NRA wants DA everytime out of the holster, the wording needs to be changed from "stage" to "string". The wording above is still unclear because "each stage out of the holster" is the first shot of the two strings only???

  8. Ahab,

The purpose of prone is to take the wobble out of the arms. Sitting still leaves you with the same wobble in the arms and a twisted bowel!!!

Legs generally are not a problem, so I dont see an advantage in sitting.

The disadvantage I see is the time taken to get into a seated position. This time would be better spent getting a good sight picture and SQUEEZING the trigger.

  9. With an 8" 10 ring just load and shoot the new brass. I dont see the point in weighing projies etc once the press is setup and the load passes chrono.

The poofteenth of an inch difference created by hours of weighing and measuring is nothing compared to a medium trigger snatch that will give you an 8 no matter how you prepared the ammo. More time on the range and less in the shed.

Having said that, my match brass is checked for cracks, primers checked for anvils and all ammo is chamber guaged. Silly jams can be avoided, trigger snatch can be reduced by practice, sothere is a balance between preparation and practice.

  10. The scientific way is to look at your profile in the mirror and measure the horizontal distance between your eyes and your waste....

Ok, just go prone at the closest distance and keep raising the gun until you can comfortably see the sights without squinting or having your eyes water. From personal experience this changes by a 1/4 inch each year.

Just remember the higher the base pad the less advantage you are getting by going prone, as once your hands are off the ground it become difficult to control the recoil, so the lower the better. Also the higher the grip, the more crap you get off your mates, and this is probably the most important thing to remember when building a base pad !!!!!

In NZ they have high base pads so they dont drown!!! :sight:
