  1. So I decided to step up into modern times and get a 627

gun came in yesterday evening and was extremely happy with it untill I got home with it and started looking closer.

I am not sure if Ray Charles was the machinest for the chamfer/moonclip cut on this gun but geezus it was rough! There was lips on ever single surface was was sharp enough that I cut several layers of skin off just feeling it. The chamfer job was so rough that I am to embarrased to talk about it on here. Lucky for me I have a 45degree chamfer cutter and a dremil. After two hours of cutting and buffing I got all the burrs and lips off the metal, rechamfered the cylinder, and lightned the 20lb trigger pull. My moon clips are still not wanting to feed right about 20% of the time but its getting better. From the factory it took me almost five minutes to get one moon clip in there. Im still getting catchs with the cylinder. I am thinking about getting some 1200 grit wet sandpaper and smooth the first inch inside of each cylinder. I was even shocked with the ammount of metal shavings I found in the gun. I am guessing I got one off the bottom of the stack or it just skipped the last step in quality control? O well I will make the best of it

  2. It's a tough pitch in my state(ms) uspsa and icore rule the roost here.

I am a moderator for www.msgunowners.com with 3000 members. We constantly makes plugs an I will personally pay match fee's for new shooters and still get 6-8 shooters each match. I'm also the assistant match director so im gonna be watching this topic closely for ideas.

  3. i cast my own bullets for 38spl and use 4.2gr trailboss (5pounder) with fed GM primers. Total cost is about 4-5cents a pop. 1000 rounds of factory Cheap junk is $300... so my $40 1k vs their $300 1k.. thats big savings specialy at 10k rounds per year

  4. you can shoot lead bullets with no lube... its just not something i would wanna do alot of. you need a lubesizer and if your gonna reload say 500+ a month i would go with a star/magma... easy mode. your alloy depends on the speed limits of your bullet.. soft "virgin" lead you need to keep under 1000fps and certian powders are prown to leading. wheel weights can be pushed a little faster because they are harder. Lyman #2 can be pushed to aout 1400fps. Straight linotype can approach 1700.. after that you REALLY need gas checked bullets.. I put about 6000 rounds of lead down the barrel of my 38 each year and only need to clean lead out maybe once or twice a year.

Rule of thumb is that the lower the operating pressure of the load, the softer they alloy you want to use. Truthfully, forget about velocity because it doesn't mean squat because you can effectively develop high velocities with low-pressure loads thus if you look only at the resultant velocity, chances are you're going to be using a bullet that is far too-hard for the loading. Another thing is running cast bullets at 0.001-0.003" larger than the groove diameter, this is kind of a rule-of-thumb however, the higher the operating pressure of the load and the harder the alloy of the bullet you're using, the closer the bullet diameter must be to the actual groove diameter or you run the risk of creating serious pressure spikes that can cause a catastrophic failure of the gun.

If you dont want to by a lubesizer you can buy a lee alox kit..

P.S all the speed demons use round nose bullets

bottom set of molds is his hollow points.. The cavity on those HP's are large enough to hide small animals in lol and he gives you five sided pins that will make the bullet mushroom out somewhat like a black talon. also you can turn the pins over and make FN solids.. so its like having three molds in one = )

  6. I would like to shoot this at 130pf but i dont know if the skirt will start blowing apart.. i know most hb bullets are ment to be slow bullseye rounds. just wondering what their limit would be
