  1. here some info for ya.......yes it happened to me...and put it all in a rifle case if you do travel.......they took my big pistol case to the bathroom and broke into it. This would be a little harder with a rifle case. Yes .223 is ok in the bag (small arms ammo)....just don't exceed the 11lbs.

I would STRONGLY advise you take out the extra insurance. The airlines only cover so much (usually $2500/bag....and you must show proof of purchase when you file for anything over $100).

I had a STI EDGE and my carry glock stolen by TSA/FSS. and the airline bag reimbursment helped, but did not cover it all.

And just a note to make everyone happy.......there where 4 people involved....3 got fired......1 of the 3 got 2yrs probation......the TSA guy is still working.......I feel so much safer.

Yes there was ammo in the case with the firearms....which is legal.....and for 48hours after the lift of my guns.....the police taking the report and TSA taking a report.....neither seemed overly concerned that there firearms and ammunition accessable to the secure area of the airport........pretty scarey.

All I have to say.....it take the max insurance you can.....and you better have the receipts to prove the values.........

I work for a airline and will not travel with my guns anymore.......after all the crap that I had to go through....

    Good Luck

  2. Thanks to all the helped/setup/worked/and most of all sweated for the 2006 TX St. 3-gun.......I brought up a new 3-gun shooter (but long time pistol shooter) and he was thrilled with the whole match......especially the RO's.......they where very nice and pleasant, not out to get you, but help you in anyway they could........and (of coarse), great stages!

    GOOD JOB!!!!!

    Garret Hawkins

  3. So if there is a scope in "Heavy Metal"........will there be a division scoring split (Iron and Scope), just like in Limited/Tactical divisions? Then a split in scoring on auto vs. pump also?

I still believe that Heavy Metal (He-Man) still should be all irons with pump for shotgun......if you are going to add auto shotguns and rifle scopes...just call it "Open Metal"

Sorry Benny.....Just my thoughts on it.

  4. No wonder your rifle is stuck to your hands... <_<

there is no better place for my rifle!

they say that your weapon should be a extension of your body.

I hope ya'll have a good dinner.....and yes, I broke down and sent in my app......so i will be shooting the match.......i know this shocks you, but it is true.

Do good in the match....and i will think about wearing my spongebob shirt for ya.... :D

  5. Hey Garret! Long time no see! :D

We had discussed BBQ in another SCC topic. I'm not familiar with Rick's... can you provide more info?

Are you going to put down your rifle and shotgun and shoot a plain' ol' pistol for Space City???

.........my rifle is stuck to my hands.......

as for info on rick's here ya go www.ricks.com/locations.html or www.ricks.com

  6. The only reason why the ATF decided practical shooting wasn't a sport was because the Klinton gang wanted to do away with those evil assault weapons. If there was no sport that an AR could be used in than there was no reason to carve out a shooting sport exception. .

I do support the bayonet lug removal......there are way to many drive-by bayonetings in this country.

    :P

Kurt......if you showed up in camo and a bow with a 10mm on your hip....i would think you where Ted Nugent!

  7. FYI.....you might want to consider only using a one piece steel guide rod........myself and 2 of my other friends have busted tungsten rods using the alum buffs......the steel rod it is ok......we all broken guide rods within 2 weeks of shooting. Yes they do work and feel great, don't get me wrong. I have not had any frame or slide damage from them, running a 10# spring in my Edge.

  8. + another, planned to shoot it last year but the infamous scope massacre necessitated the scope come off the bolt gun and on to Garrett's AR so he could finish the match. Besides I'll be out there for the team match and should have really good scope dope and might be able to hit those little suckers.

Bronco.......what in the hell are you talking about "scope massacre"........that was a LASER GUIDED TARGETED STRIKE! :D

  9. I like to see youth get involved in any shooting sport, but remember that ours involves “running with scissors”. The real problem in our area is their adult companion. If you are not willing to RO and instruct them through the COF, others may be leery. Dad took one 8 year old through with a Mark II, did well, and had center hits on all the steel. They went down like dominos (a regular had earlier called for calibration on an edge hit. The rest of the club rode him unmercifully the rest of the day.)

Different day, different youth, got a limited rocking in his hand and emptied the mag into one target, grinning ear to ear. The adult companion was not too concerned, but the rest of the squad was.

    Adults make the difference.

i am in total agreement.......when i feel that he is ready for his first match.....i will not let him shoot it unless i can RO him......of coarse clearing this with the match director prior to the match......and i honestly don't think that should be a problem......but also taking into consideration that i have coached him thoroughly prior that first match. a VERY active part, on my part is the key to my son's training and shooting.....if i did not have a active part and just let shoot, that would be idiotic!

  10. Can a six year old youngster really navigate something like a 32 round field course with things like uprange movement, opportunities to break the 180, etc? I mean, I see plenty of adults having problems.

not at this time....i would agree with you on the age and a field coarse at this time.....but getting the basics of shooting/targets/reloads/studing coarses/positions/rules/etc. down, then by 9 or so.....start in on actually shooting field coarses.......

But the thing that we forget......kids are like sponges.......adults are not....when it comes to learning...(i know i am not)......i got started later in life and it was hard......i just want to get him started off right without falling into bad habits, then have to try and break him of those.
