There are a few matches that run the half day format and I'm a big fan! As the slowest member of the 3 gun nation squad I can assure you those guys didn't hold anything up. The camera crew was set and ready to go before walk through and those guys are super fast on the shooting. I had to fight Mike Voight and 3GN champion Tommy Thacker to set a piece of steel. They get after it!
I was thinking ProAm because there seems to be a huge following in the Dead Center of Texas for anything LaRue does including this match. So there were a bunch off new shooters present. I want to see that number grow. I could care less about myself getting done faster. New shooters and great sponsors is what makes this sport so great!
For those of you that haven't shot the ProAm it's basically two ,arches running simultaneously. Pros on more challenging stages and Ams on more accommodating stages with everyone coming together after the match for food and drink.
I think a lot of the fun of TXMG is indeed the fact that it is one match--where pros and amateurs all shoot together. While most of us amateurs are no competition for the pros, some do surprisingly well. For example, Sheldon Blackwell (one of our local Texas Multigun club shooters) came in second in Tactical last year (right behind Taran) and came in first this year in Limited. Lance Dingler, another local guy, came in 7th in Tactical this year.

We wrere one squad ahead of the film crew and we were also the last squad done on Friday. I don't think they held up anything. The shoot was great and I like the more laid back approach instead of trying to cram everyone thru as fast as possible. I have been competing in everything from motocross to gun shoots and even archery stuff. You have wait times at all of them and this shoot was one of the best ran that I have been to in a long time. Can't wait for next year! Bringing more sun screen
Glen, thanks for the feedback, and for your sponsorship of the match. The recipient of the rifle is VERY excited about it! I believe she shared her Facebook post on your FB page as well.

You were waiting because they were too fast - not too slow...

Not one of the squads at stage 12 picked up on my tickle about "more Hits called with Vortex Glass than any- other glass on the stage!"
The Tickle was that we had at least two sometimes three Vortex spotters to one Leupold and one Swarowski.
The song and dance was at the squads request during a range delay. I will Not do it again
I loved how there were four spotters calling hits in unison. I'll bet there were no arguments about whether a hit was not properly called when you have that many spotters. It wasn't in stereo, it was in surround sound.

I thought everyone did a great job, especially Sheldon and Marcy, match ran on time, very smooth. Sheldon was everywhere and he had the hardest job of anyone. Running the match, plus being having to be the bearer of bad news, and thats no fun.
Having the local police at the exit as we were leaving was a real nice for every ones safety. Thanks.
Ron, since you did see me run it , how do you know it choked??
To be clear, It ran on 2,3 , 8, 10, 11. Slug ftf, on 1,re rack on 2 and a mag lock up on 6, from cruiser ready, had to change mags and then it ran. Not perfect but not bad for its first match. Less problems than some, more than others, from what I heard it ran as well as any of your guns.
Dave
Dave that sounds zakley like the story you told me while we were hanging out wating on the goodie table.
And yes Sheldon exceeded all expectations as did Marcey they worked hard and long on this match, and it showed. I have not been to any BIG 3 GUN matches, but they sure set a high standard for the next one I go to.
Ron, you can no longer say you've never been to a BIG 3-gun match. You've been to one of, if not THE, biggest, as of last weekend.

Not wanting to cause any problems but last year if I had a rd. left in shotgun I simply shot it at where the last target was to slide lock, dumped shotgun and went on.Just never seen this in a major match before. I will follow rules as best as I can and hope match is great.
Benny you had me all buffuddled, I was thing crap if I have 10 or 12 rounds in there then what. Well I figured it out I'm an "A" kind a shooter and you like option "B".1.9Grounding Firearms
1.9.1
During the course requirements of a multi-gun stage, a participant may be required to ground a firearm in
order to transition to another. The location and position of the grounded firearm will be specified in the
written stage description. A participant shall transition firearms by safely grounding a firearm using either of
the following acceptable and safe methods:
(a)
Loaded, safety engaged.
(
Unloaded. Note: For purposes of Texas Multigun, "unloaded" means:
(i)
Empty chamber and empty source (tube or magazine); or
(ii)
Empty chamber and magazine completely removed
Yep, most boomsticks have some sort of fancy lever/button that is called a "safety".

f) Not more than nine rounds total may be loaded at the beginning of any stage, unless otherwise
stipulated in the stage briefing
Am I reading this right that guys in tactical have to starrt with 9 rounds but may load more after the buzzer. Thanks this question is for a friend of mine.
pat
So can we load past the div capacity after the buzzer or not?
Yes, unless Lee steps in and corrects me. Rule 6.3.3 (f) reads "Not more than nine rounds total may be loaded at the beginning of any stage, unless otherwise
stipulated in the stage briefing" (I added the underline for emphasis).
Here we are on the eve of the event reading the rules for the first time. I like the open shotgun rules, no limit on the number of rounds on the start, ok 14 sounds good.
Target scoring, wow now that could be interesting, slow a bit make all a's save ammo and time, it is worth the risk.
Rules have been on the web site since January. Posted recently was the final revision as well as the FAQ.

RULES FAQ just added to the website.
Please read it, along with the rules.
Since non-IPSC paper targets are being used, it would be worthwhile to clarify the rules or at least add to the FAQ. There are only 2 perforated circles on the match targets, with considerably more excess paper outside the outer scoring ring than on an IPSC target. That may cause some confusion to anyone just working off the rules. Just a suggestion.
Check rule 7.5
7.5 When a 3-Gun Nation Rifle and Pistol Target is specified as a shoot target:
7.5.1 For Open, Limited, and Tactical Divisions, the 3GN target must have either one (1) "Center" hit in the 8"
circle OR have (2) hits anywhere on the cardboard to avoid penalty.
(a) Only one (1) hit on the cardboard and NO scoring hit in the 8" center circle is a 5 second penalty.
( Target engaged with no hits is a 10 second penalty.
7.5.2 For Heavy Tactical Division,
(a) A designated rifle target must have one (1) hit anywhere on the cardboard to avoid penalty. Target
engaged with no hits is a 10 second penalty
( A designated pistol target must have either one (1) "Center" hit in the 8" circle OR have (2) hits anywhere on the cardboard to avoid penalty. Only one (1) hit on the cardboard and NO scoring hit in the 8" center circle is a 5 second penalty.
7.5.3 For WW2 Division, the 3GN target must have (1) hit anywhere on the cardboard to avoid penalty.
(a) Target engaged with no hits is a 10 second penalty.
7.5.4 Target Not Engaged (TNE) penalty is the same as for IPSC targets.
I've just revised the FAQ to include a note pointing to that section:
3GN CARDBOARD TARGETS: Review Section 7.5 of the main rules document () for information on how Texas Multigun scores these new targets. Essentially, target is scored using the 8" inner circle and "the rest of the target", ignoring the larger 17.25" circle. -
Regarding the FAQs...
Is that just no sight pictures with a preloaded shotgun, which makes sense... or no sight pictures at all even with an empty gun to make sure I can see my dot? That is going to be a hard habit to break!!! Every time I draw my pistol I take a sight picture.
Is taking an extra aimed shot after a hit considered "round dumping"? Like if I load 3 slugs for two targets, but actually get the two hits first... then I must transition to birdshot targets. Can I just shoot that extra 3rd slug? In other words, will I get a DQ for taking an aimed shot with a slug at a slug target that I have already hit?
Thanks,
-Randy
No sight pictures even with an empty gun. You may briefly check your dot while muzzle pointed down (no higher than low ready), but sight pictures will slow down the match too much.
Extra aimed shot at a target designated for the type of projectile you are shooting is not "round dumping". The reason for the rule is safety, so an extra aimed shot does not pose a safety risk.

Did we ever get a final count on WWII division entries? I know a few of the pros had to back out due to 3GN points, but I'm sure there's at least a few Garand shooters left, right?
DanO
There are right around 30 WWII division competitors.

Thanks you guys are great. I think I got it however. I did have to down size my carry gun from my Glock 26 to my Smith scandium J frame to make weight. Anyway thanks again. Looking foward to this match, already have butterflies in my stomach.
quick question anyone know approximately how much 40 degrees and 1000 feet will change my dope. I am expecting it to increase my velocity about 50 fps or so but not sure.
Pat
If you have an Android device, try playing around with Strelok. You can adjust the altitude, temperature, pressure, etc. and get a decent feel for what changes to expect. I'm sure there are other ballistic calculators, this is just the one I'm most familiar with.

Well my dope is good to 400 and thats as far as I could test. Handgun is ready, shotgun is ready rifle is ready, but I am getting nervious again.
Managed to get all my three gun gear into two hard cases that weigh just under 50 pounds. Alaska Airlines lets Alaska residents fly with 2 bags for free. Now I will see if I can get my clothes and misc into a carry on bag lol. See you guys down there.
Pat
Pat, if you flat cannot fit something post it here and I'll bet someone will jump in and offer to loan it to you for the match.

Waiver....is that something we would have sent in with our entry form and payment? I don't remember, and don't have a waiver laying around that I set aside to bring with me...hoping that was something I sent it already?
Pull up the email you got from "postmaster@texasmulti-gun.com"
This should be the email you received after you signed up on line.
The waiver is in the body of the email, just print and sign.
My confirmation email dated 2/14/12 did not include a waiver form.
You are misunderstanding--the email you received at the time of registration, which you printed and signed and sent with the match fees, included the waiver. If you recently received a confirmation, we should already have your waiver.

Great! Do we need to let Marcy know prior to Thursday who is going to check us in?
thanks,
James
Send a note to support@texasmultigun.com with that info. I don't know that we'll have the bandwidth to check or verify the info, but it couldn't hurt to have the info.
One more thing, if for some reason we don't have your waiver you will need to send it with your designate or show up in person to check in. No waiver = not shooting the match.

Same here. Work is not going to allow me to be there by 6pm.
Yes. Just spoke to Marcy. If you have a friend you're shooting with then you can have them check you in and pick up your stuff for you. Whatever we can do to get 99% of folks check in on Thursday will help. There will be very LIMITED time for stragglers on Friday morning.

Trapr - Sorry about that. Last minute tweaks on the target scoring (using 3GN cardboard instead of IPSC) means there are some changes and the website has not been fixed except not point to the old ones.
I have attached the update.
Lee
Lee,
The web site now has this version. Sorry I was offline this afternoon and evening or I would have gotten to it sooner.
Thanks,
Justin

Thanks everyone. I am going to buy shotshells down there. I am brining my pistol and rifle ammo as well as slugs and buck.
Pat
If you have time, be sure to stop by one of local sponsors, Guns Plus in Georgetown. They have a good selection of cleaning supplies, but you might want to call first to see what shotgun ammo they have on hand. Worst case, most Wal-Marts are open 24 hours.

Sheldon, will there be water out there like last year? I'm not bringing food b/c of that delicious BBQ but I'm wondering about how much water to haul from the truck.
Sent using Tapatalk
I believe LaRue will have water and sodas available.
Not a bad idea to bring your own as well, but water should be available near the LaRue War Wagon.
Good point, Alden. Yes, there will be refreshments as we had last year, but there's always a chance that when you need a drink there would be a long line or a temporary shortage. Enjoy what's provided but having your own backup is always a good idea.

Being Polish as an excuse for not reading...Marcy read it and was not amused.
So I'm confused, Sheldon. Do you want me to move SWANDME to Open Division or just change his t-shirt size to a SMEDIUM.?
