Because I’m tired of the fuss. I’m tired of chasing after gear and stuff and just want to find a place where I can shoot a bone stock gun and get good without worrying about whether I have the right whiz bang stuff. I don’t want to shoot a dot and have to worry about breakages or finding “the best.” It’s definitely a problem with me, but that’s just my take.

The first thing to do is put the cylinder in the lathe with a dial indicator on the front face. Turn the lathe chuck (with cylinder) by hand and see if it has runout and how much.

If it needs to be faced off, it is then a simple matter to put in a cutting tool and skim it square. This is not an operation for anything hand held. You will just ruin the cylinder that way. A lot of cylinders come from the factory with the face at a slight angle, some more than others. The one in the picture looks like a lot. If you leave it at an angle, and make more cylinder gap, it's likely to get dirty from the chambers with a wide gap and bind on the chambers with less gap.

If you want, send it to me and I'll face it off properly the minimum amount to make it square.

I have my middle finger more around the frame and on the side of the window that that, and am grabbing the cylinder like that with my thumb. I run with the gun like that and am fully gripping it, with my index finger free to move and eject.

In the bottom image I think it takes so much longer for 2 fingers to go all the way in and all the way out compared to staying out of the window completely.

Like I said earlier, there’s no “one way fits all,” especially in revolver. I have spent time with each reload and technique and ultimately settled on the one that works for me. I think reload speed should be directly related to classification and vice versa. I also think people should experiment and see what’s best for them.

MWP, thank you for the help! I can see where this technique could have some advantages for me.

No, as soon as the left hand goes under the frame and takes control of the gun the right hand is gone. By the time my right hand reaches my belt, the gun is empty and rolling nose down.

I can eject from this position but if I raise the muzzle much more the gun wants to slide out of my hand. My normal reload is JM style.

Yea same for me in 30 years at this sport I probably have less than 5 hours total of dry fire, no routine practice might do 100 rounds of drills if I am on a range to adjust a Zero or do some chrono work 2-3 times a year... I just shoot 6-8 matches every month

    Awesome!

Could someone elaborate on the statements of sport pistol and/or clean shot messing up the dillon powder bar?  Why does it happen and an example of what we should be looking for?  I'm not familiar.

Apparently my powder measure has enough clearance between powder bar and spacer (.007) to allow Sport Pistol to get in there, wear the parts and dust the press. Today I smoothed out the roughness and made a .004 shim for the spacer. If your powder measure runs clean and smooth with fine powders you don't have a problem.

Aim at something really small, like a light switch on the other side of the room, and dry-fire DA until the sights stay where they are supposed to be when the hammer drops.  Only dry-fire with a hard grip using full muscle tension, or you will be grooving in bad habits.  Doing it correctly will be difficult and fatiguing.

    This

    And reload practice

  8. The Brazos 124 is an excellent profile, looks a lot like the H&G #331. I got a bunch in over the weekend and the first 6 I ran over the chrono gave a 0 SD with Alliant Sport Pistol. I’ve never seen a 0 SD for 6 shots before and may never see another but it made me smile.
