  1. Solo1000 rocks for 9mm.

Use the dowel rod method for finding your max oal. Clear the chamber and stick a dowel down the barrel, mark the edge of the barrel with a pencil line. Remove the barrel, drop a loose bullet that you plan to load into the chamber and use a pencil or another piece of dowel to hold the bullet just snug up to the lands. Insert your dowel down the barrel again and mark it at the edge of the barrel. Remove bullet, dowel, etc and put pistol back together. Use your mic to measure the distance between your two pencil marks. That is your absolute max oal, and I recommend dropping down at least 0.010".

FWIW, my XDM had a very tight/short chamber compared to my STI and Glocks...

  2. I placed an order for some 9mm 125 grainers about an hour ago, got a personal reply from David telling me that they will be shipping out tomorrow, woohoo.

They might even get here before my vacation is over.

I'm going to be using solo1000, and it seems that 3.8-3.9 is the commonly recommended starting point.

The last batch I purchased, about 6000 rounds ago, I used Titegroup. The barrel temps get really hot using that stuff!

  3. OK I am stumbling in to the Bolt gun world. I figure you guys need some-one to laugh at.

just dropped the change on a 700 with a 22-250 barrel that will have to go, for a 260 barrel.

Hopefully I can keep from making too many mistakes in the build.

Barrel in 24"? with or with out contour?

Bottom metal by Badger Ordnance ? and an extra mag ? or two

dies by Redding ? with the S neck?

I do have the most important part figured out .... it will have Vortex glass.

What events to make my start in and should I just go ahead and get my Clown shoes out of the closet?

You might try giving this guy a call, I keep hearing good things about his work from guys here in Houston that have used him in the past.

  4. The newest Hornady Manual has a section for the "service rifle" category.

Unfortunately, they don't have any load data using 8208XBR in this section...

Flipping back a few pages to the .308 Win section, 168's are listed with a start of 33.2 and a max of 43.2. BTHP's and AMAX's were loaded out to 2.800 COAL. Brass was Hornady, Primer was Fed 210.

If you've never been there, Sniper's Hide has a wealth of information...just read before you ask any questions...they're a grumpy bunch.

  5. My last company had this bass ackwards mentality. I got yelled at several times for helping the guy that was looking at me, instead of answering the ringing phone. I figured, there were 3 others answering phone calls, no need to have 12 guys standing at the counter waiting to get helped.

  6. My chill out smoke: I love all of the Fuente Hemingway's or La Aurora 1495 series.

My working around in the garage smoke: Punch, especially the Rare Corojo.

My High power knock you out smoke: La Flor Dominicana Double Ligero. It packs more punch than a lip full of snuff.

My Don't let the Feds test this one smoke: Opus X. I smoked one, and I swear there is more than tobacco in there. Was a great "high", but at $15 a stick, not something you find a reason to smoke often.

I must say all of these go well with Maker's Mark or Knob Creek whiskey. But then again, after a few puff and a few sips, who really cares anymore.

  7. She's a redneck fer sure, but lord what a redneck!

    She's definitely a one of a kind...

Her .44 mag bites her hand at 1:00 and then at 1:18 her boobs catch a piece of .40 brass. Notice the jig she dances with her finger on the trigger the whole time...

  8. I have never loaded on anything other than a Dillon, and I've never had even the first issue with my Dillon (550), not anything other than the ram being hard to operate, and that was due to lack of a lubricant. Now, I don't have a case feeder, or bullet feeder, so I can't make any comment on those either, but I do know that if you throw ANY Dillon out the back of a truck moving at 60MPH, INTENTIONALLY, and Dillon will fix or replace it. That is the true No BS warrantee. I personally know of someone who bought a used 550 that was so rusted up from sitting in a leaky shed, that no amount of oil or cleaning could get the ram to move. He sent it back to Dillon, and they sent him a new press, no questions asked. Period. Hornady may make a fine press, it may be better than any Dillon, but until they stand behind it 100% for any breakage, whatever the reason, it will always be second...

I'm with Grumpy on this one, blue is all I know. And I will add that getting the Blue Press in the mail trumps anything that anyone else even attempts to offer.

  9. shot some of these loads at 25 and 50 yds free hand yesterday.

I've never shot at either of these ranges before, so was pretty pleased with my performance.

Here's my 50 yd target with 7 (6 on the plate and one flyer that was not included in this cropped shot) 9mm holes made by me. The .22 cal holes were already there, I just didn't bother to paste them.

    post-23800-040582400 1283126453_thumb.jp

The 25 yd target had much better groupings. Moving from my standard 15 yds to 25 yds was pretty easy. 25 to 50 was a whole different animal.

  10. One or all of the button holes are sewn horizontally instead of vertically.

Whewhoo! We have a winner. Nice work! It's the only shirt I've seen with horizonatal button holes.

And nice wording of your answer to cover either situation - it's all of them.

Please email bigJoni your shipping address:

    orders@brianenos.com

... and she'll send you the book Monday.

    be

I've got a shirt where the very bottom button hole is horizontal, the rest are vertical. It's a mind bender to put on in the morning while not fully awake.

  11. It's Brians' toga from "Life of Brian".....Brian wearing Brian's toga! :roflol:

I know that's not it, but thought it was a funny connection...

As long as it's not that scene where Brian stands in the window trouserless.

  12. As promised...Strings 7 and 8 burning 4.7 and 4.8 grains of powder.

    Time 1-2pm

    Temp 99

    Sky Partly Cloudy

Wind Mild Breeze - probably 10mph full value cross wind, but I was against a wall so was protected.

    Distance to Chrono 10'

    Pistol STI 2011 Tactical 5.0 9mm

    OAL 1.125

    Bullet MG 124gr JHP

    Brass Speer 9mm Nickel

    Primer Magtech Small Pistol

    Powder Solo 1000 lot# 1930 dated 3-17-10

    String 7: 20 shots

    4.7gr HI 1049 LO 985 AV 1015 ES 64 SD 13

    String 8: 20 shots

    4.8gr HI 1040 LO 999 AV 1018 ES 41 SD 11

Moral of the story, 4.6 to 4.8 gets me just a bit over minor power factor, but only by the smallest margin.

I just don't see this powder/bullet combo getting me any more velocity, but it shoots damn smooth. Maybe I should chill em down in a cooler before I run them...

Of course, seeing as how I just applied some of BE's Far Superior Slide Glide, I am going to be biased no matter.

  13. I feel for you.

I've had pink eye more times that I care to admit, it's never fun...however, a warm wet washcloth does wonders for busting the eye boogers apart first thing in the AM.

Did you get any antibiotic drops?

  14. I loaded up some 4.7 and 4.8 loads, but did not get a chance to run them over the chrono, yet.

It really does fill up the case. I'll have to tweak the XL650 to limit some of the "snappiness" I'm getting when the indexer grabs the shellplate for the advance to the next station if I plan to keep using such a full case volume load.
