I have a 550 that I bought in the early 90's. Every now and then, when it gets to feeling a little tight when I pull on it, I take it down and clean and lube it. I don't have to do it very often but have done it a few times or so.
My question is: I have some lateral play in the crank, link arm pivots and pins top and bottom. Holding onto the pull handle I can move it about halfway down and I can wiggle it laterally quite a bit. When the shell-plate is up it will rotate maybe 1/4 of an inch or more. Is this normal for an older machine, will it affect loading tolerance on ammo? I am thinking I may need a few new parts to get it back to being tight again.
I haven't loaded any ammo since the last clean and lube so I won't know how any ammo would shoot with this looseness.
Any opinions will be welcome. Thanks!
