  1. hey, how many rounds should I bring to H&H Sunday night? and how much does it cost? Any pointers?

I haven't shot one yet, but I'm going to take a stab at it and say to bring at least 200 rounds.

Like I told you at the OKCGC match, I've learned my lesson, I will never show up to a match with less than 300 rounds. You just never know what will happen, and you KNOW you will be using the left over rounds at the next match........better safe than have to borrow from Jesse!!! :surprise:

  2. Is the priming slide coming all the way back? When if the ram is in the "up" position, and the slide comes back for a primer to drop into it, can you reach down and pull on the slide and make it move towards you a little?

    if that's the case, then I suggest three things;

    - Make sure the slide, and all the contact surfaces in that area are clean and there is no spent or live primers hindering the operation

    - Do the bendy thing Dillon suggested. Just run the ram up and down real slow until you see where the two rollers contact the angles on the operations rod, and determine which way to bend it.

    - What finally worked for me, is that I loosened the operating rod clamp that is secured to the priming tube, and I rotated it counter clockwise until the primers dropped every time. This is basically doing the same thing as bending the rod since you are changing the angle of an hypotenuse. If you really wanted to know the exact angles required for maximum efficiency, you'd need to take a few measurements, graph them, and solve the resulting linear equations using y=mx+b, figure slope, and on the right angles consult Pythagorean. Drawn out, you can get it perfect.........or you can just rotate the clamp a little until it works.......whichever is easier. :surprise:

  3. Buy a few Khans to use during dry fire drills and range practice; that way, you won't be dropping or overusing your factory mags more than needed. I've got three that I use for those very reason.

I've never had trouble out of any of them, but I can say that the Glock mags pull much smoother out of the CR speed mag pouches. So, again, using the Khans when I dry fire and practice reloads is like wearing ankle weights the week before a CC run.

I was limited on my budget, so I went with 2 extra Factory Glock Mags (brought me to a total of 5) and 3 Kahns.

You saw how battered mine were at the last match, and I've got some new base plates on order. In a month or so, I'm going to order 5 more factory mags because I know I will eventually need them.

  4. Hello and welcome. You will need to take several

weeks off :roflol: so you can read just the newer

info that gets listed by the second here!

No seriously!!!! I'm sitting here "studying" for the GRE as I read the Enos forums.

If there was only a way I could make the same amount of money shooting that I could with a job that requires an MBA.

Just take it in small chunks.

  5. Great to see more and more new shooters.

Be safe, help with pasting targets and setting up steel and everyone will want you back next time.

Welcome to one of the funnest things you can do while being dressed!

You shoot with your clothes ON? :surprise::surprise::surprise:

  6. You definitely need to come and shoot the H&H match. It is a good first match to shoot. DO NOT show up without a pistol and gear or we are going to start thinking you are stalking us! :D

Maybe I am. :surprise: Yeah, I just ordered a holster so maybe it will be here in time. Just as long as you don't say any of those mean and hurtful things to me that you were saying to Rusty and Brad and Phil and Scott and... :D

He is kind of disgruntle, huh?:huh:

Even if your holster does not come in, come on anyway. I know that Jesse has an extra holster, and if nothing else, I have a belt slide and a double paddle mag holster you can use. Just let me know and I will bring it, or I'll give Jesse a ring and see if he has some extra stuff. JUST BRING YOUR GUN, WE WILL FIGURE OUT A WAY TO GET YOU SHOOTING. :goof:

  7. Brad, we're really glad you came out. Now, go get a damn holster, belt, and mag holders and get to the next match.

I may go to the H&H match next Sunday night, so get your gear and come on out.

Hit me up on some more PMs if you go any more questions.

  8. JUST SPRAY AND PRAY!!!!!! :goof::goof: Why not, it's your first match.

Brad continues to shoot this way! :sight:

What? I have NO idea what you're talking about. Just because I shoot 365 rounds on five stages that only require 180 rounds............don't judge me.:roflol:

  9. PAT Doyle..............sorry Pat.

I went to the USSA competition pistol course last week in Tulsa.

One of the MANY things we went over was visualizing, and the different aspects and techniques.

When we shot the match on the last day, I was determined to "work" the match instead of just "shooting" it.

I paid detailed attention to the pre-match RO brief of each stage, took notes, and made a preliminary plan for each stage.

As soon as we got to each stage (sometimes I would sneak over to the next stage to get a peek, if I got done shooting the current one) I took a few minutes to develop my plan.

After I knew what I was going to do, I would run it over and over in my head, counting rounds, solidifying my target order and footwork, all the while pasting targets.

When I knew that I was in the hole, I stepped back, closed my eyes, and actually "ran" the stage, to include drawing, reloading, moving (ghosting, of course). I'd do it a few times until I was on deck, then I would stand still, close my eyes, and visualize me running the stage and seeing the sights as that person was shooting.

MAN!!!!! I could not believe how much my pre-stage jitters calmed, how much better my transitions were, how much more accurately I shot, and how much I remembered (after the stage was over) what I did wrong and what to do about it on the next stage.

I know this may be something that a lot of you guys already do, and take for granted, but it's an epiphany for me. I can't wait until the match on Saturday so I can continue the development on my technique.

    I thought I was addicted before..................now I think I am obsessed. :surprise::surprise:

  10. You know, it never ceases to amaze me how simple the solution can be sometimes. When I read your post it made perfect sense. Basically you're saying that the primer is 'hanging on' to the pin then halfway seating itself back in the primer pocket just enough to not come out of the case. Thanks for the advice Ill give it a try soon as I get home.

On a completely unrelated not how long before your hearing gets back to normal?

Hearing? I think I would be asking how to get the stain out!!! :surprise:

  11. I tell myself before every stage, "slack, site picture, squeeze/squeeze, attack the next target, ALL AT MY PACE".

Even though I say it real fast, I always slow down when I say, "all at MY pace".

Shooting at my pace gave me 97 A's, 10 C's, 1 D, and 1 M at the last match. It gave me 58% in production division. It's not great, but it's only my third match.

  12. +1 on going to a local match. Most people are more than willing to help new guys out (I should know, I've on shot 3 USPSA matches).

And +1 on getting some lessons. Ask some guys at the match who gives good instruction and take a few hours of lessons from that guy to work on the fundamentals.

If you can take 3 days off, go to the USSA 110 course in Tulsa, OK. I just finished the course and all I can say is.......AWESOME!!

  13. I'm going to love this site! I'm a pretty new shooter and I've been to one 3 gun match and I'm hooked! I know I'm going to learn alot on this site even though I'm in a little over my head.
Welcome! I am also a new member here. Come out to the USPSA match at the OKC Gun Club this weekend!

Brad, don't let Mitch fool you; he may be new here, but he's been in the industry for years. (he owns J&K Casters in OKC)

I'm pretty new here and to the USPSA world. I just shot my third match at USSA this past weekend and attended their competition pistol course.

Come on out this weekend. If you have any questions, I can point you to the people that have the answers (notice I didn't say I would answer your questions :D ) I've always got a tan baseball cap on with a big red "A" on it. Roll Tide!!

  14. A common scenario... A guy calls me up ready to buy a 650 because he's seen on forums or his buddies told the 650 is "better" press.

But his buddies and forum members are all competition shooters, loading lots of rounds/month in one, two, or three calibers. But the customer is a recreational shooter, that shoots maybe 1000 to up to 1500 rounds max a month in 4 calibers - in 2 pistol calibers and 2 rifle calibers. IMO, in that case, the 650 would not be the "best" press for that person. Because he would spend as much time changing calbiers/fiddling with it as he would loading ammo.

When trying to make the "550 or 650 decision," a common belief is that by spending more money you will get a better press. (I would be in that same boat myself.) But with this decision it isn't true. As with all Dillon's presses, the are both "good" pressses. The difference comes down to which press will serve your needs better.

With multiple calibers, 500 - 1500 rounds/month, the 550 is the perfect press for that scenario.

2000+ rounds/month in one or two calibers, that's wher the 650 comes in to play.

    be

I can use myself as a prime example for Brian's point here.

    I load 9mm, .45, .38/.357, and .223.

I loaded 200 .223 the other night in about 45 minutes.

Then, three days ago, I needed to start loading 9mm for the USSA class I am attending this week. It took me all of 5 minutes to change calibers (deluxe conversion kit), set powder throw, set bullet seat, and set crimp.

I needed 1500 rounds for the course. Over the last two nights, I've spent about 5 hours reloading on the 550, and I past the 1500 mark just before 5 hours. If that seems fast, it is; my wife was sitting there with me feeding the cases :rolleyes: (who needs a case feeder when you have an AWESOME wife).

  15. Zvi, welcome to BrianEnos.com. :)How did the Tek-Lok come into this? I don't see it mentioned in the OP's post. In any event, if you look at the design of the locking mechanism on that piece of equipment, I'd say the chances of it ever coming off accidentally once the "lock" is closed is, well, zero.

Either I'm going crazy, or he edited his post. Most likely, I'm crazy.

I only said that about the tek-lock because the one I had came loose during a match. It was my fault because I did not have it put on right, but I KNOW my belt

slide is on right and will not come off.

I'm not the smartest guy in the world, so that probably won't happen to many other people.

  16. I have to retract my deduced reasoning for my FTFs.

I shot a small non-sanctioned match last night and I had a HORRIBLE time!!.....with the Glock, that is.

Long story short? My reloads are bad. I either don't have enough crimp, OAL too long, or too little powder.......maybe a combo off two or all three. I shot a stage with some factory WWB, and the gun ran perfectly, so I know it was the ammo.

I've got to load about 1500 147gr rounds for the USSA course later this week, so I won't get to mess around with my "puff ball loads" until later.

But, I will have to see if resting the butt on a rest causes the issue again, or if it was all reloading issues.

  17. I'm looking way ahead and trying to decide whether to go to SS or Limited next.

I'm shooting production right now, and I own a stock Springfield Loaded. It really makes me want to go ahead and add a few things (FO sights, trigger work, SA magwell, grips) over the next year so that it will be ready when I'm ready.

On the other hand, I really want to be able to run a FULL hi cap mag... :goof::goof:

I say make yourself a deal; each time you step up in classification (D-GM) in production, you get to buy something for the next gun.
