Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Thanks for all the replies! The gunsmith is a local guy where I live, but I also was considering Canyon Creek, as he is not too far from me either. Has anyone had him do any 1911 work?
  2. I actually grew up shooting my 1911's, and do shoot SS every once in awhile. I have been hitting production and limited more though. I don't feel the gun is holding me back too much, but both guns are 100% stock. I talked to a local 1911 gunsmith, and he said to get a trigger job on either gun would cost around $250-300. This is a full competition trigger job though. Then I would also need to upgrade sights, etc. So for that kind of money, I was thinking it might be better for me to trade one of mine in, and upgrade to a 1911 that is more competition ready? Or is it better to use one of my current guns as a good base to build a competition gun?
  3. I am hoping some of you can give me direction with a single stack division 1911. I currently own a colt 1991, and a colt ss mark IV. I don't know if I should modify one of my existing 1911's (trigger job, parts, etc.), or trade one of them in for an STI or something else that is Single Stack ready? If I should trade in, what should I go with? Thanks!
  4. I use RCBS dies for all my reloading. Over the course of time, it seems the decapping starts to get temperamental. It doesn't always want to push the primer out. I have tried everything to fix this. I changed the pin depth, replaced the pin, etc, to fix but nothing takes care of the problem 100%. I would still have the issue about 10 in every 100 rounds. This is on different presses also. I finally took out one of the pins and filed it to a sharp point, and the problem has disappeared! This may have been suggested before, but I couldn't find it. I reloaded 1000+ rounds with no decapping issues!
  5. Thanks Everyone for the replies, it is fixed! I tightened the shellplate holder just a little bit more, and adjusted the dies as BE recommended. So far so good! Thanks!
  6. I am new to the 550b, so hopefully this is a simple question. I am getting varying OAL of around +/- .004, and it fluctuates through my run. I have everything setup as instructed and the dies are seated tight. I am using full stroke of the loader also. I am using RCBS dies, and using them in my single stage press, my OAL never changes. Is this normal/acceptable for progressive loaders, or am I missing something?
  7. Thanks Beven! I just received your email on this also. That is exactly what I needed.
  8. I talked with Rich and he doesn't sell just the springs. Rich has been great to work with and has given me great support. The springs I need to order, are they your part# AAMS Extra Power Mag Spring? Thanks!
  9. I purchased mag extension kits from CC for my XDM9. I need to replace just the springs in my mags. Anyone know where I can buy just the springs? Grams doesn't show them on their website. Thanks!
