  1. Hi guys, ive been away, so missed your replies. the gun is an sti edge in 38 super and it has never run 100% from being purchased new. The gun was very tight and I had many failures to go into battery for the first 1500 rounds including a few failures to extract. After that the gun ran smooth but still occasional faiures to extract. I read about the aftec extractor and had one fitted but the problem is still there. i have swapped between aftec and standard extractor in the past 2 weeks and after firing 2000 rounds it still fails to extract every 100-150 rounds. the fired case remains in the chamber but it is not tight. if I remove the mag and tilt the gun back with a little shake the empty shell falls out. what else should I be looking for if it is not an extractor problem?
  2. It was fitted by a competant gunsmith and he followed the instruction sheet as he hadnt seen this type of extractor before. I have pulled the stop out and checked, it does have the rounded edges and the 5 thou clearence each side as described in the instructions. It had the 2 springs fitted and i already tried it with only 1 spring in the front and it would not extract at all. Rick
  3. recently i had a aftec extractor installed but i am getting a failure to extract every 100 - 150 rounds. any advise? regards Rick
  4. Hey Torogi, which brand of recoil spring did you use as i have tried wilson combat and kings and they wont go over the guide rod of the recoilmaster. regards Rick
  5. i have followed the instructions and put the radius on the edges of the firing pin stop, whowever the extractor is very tight and doesnt seem to pivot at this point. Do you ever take a slight amount of material from the side of the groove in the extractor? I know the instructions say not to but the stop fits into the frame quite loosely as it is so I am not sure I should take any more material of the stop. regards Rick
  6. So if i want to experiment with my setup i need a 5 inch full length guide rod in material of choice, a range of springs and use the reverse plug that is on the gun now ?
  7. Hello to you all. I have been browsing this site for approx 6 months and you guys are awesome with the amount of info and knowledge you share. I have recently purchased an STI IPSC model in 38 super and it came with the light recoilmaster. The gun would not function with it so I contacted my distributer and he sent me a heavy recoilmaster. The gun works fine now but i have read how people experiment with different recoil springs to get the gun working the way they like. If i wanted to do this and go to a conventional guide rod system ,do i use the reverse plug that comes with the recoilmaster? I have been shooting handguns for a few years but this is the first I have owned, so any advise you give me will be much appreciated regards Rick
