650 and NewTek primer fix work around

That is a great option! I already had the UniqueTek bracket so I went with it but both result in a more enjoyable reloading session with less clean up! -
650 and NewTek primer fix work around

Well, I got the new platform parts and had it installed in about 40 minutes and properly aligned. The UniqueTek primer chute is installed and routed to the trash can. The press is now even better. Only thing left is the Mr Bullet feeder... I must say Dillon's service is so good, I don't know how they stay in business. I'm very grateful for their service and will be a Dillon customer for life. I've never experienced customer service like they have! -
650 and NewTek primer fix work around

Well a little update and yet another reason why Dillon is the best company I've ever done business with... I called and explained my case, the nice man on the phone, without skipping a breath said he would mail me out a new platform with instructions and aligning tools. Yep, just asked for my member number to verify my address! Yahoo! I get my press updated and back on track to rock out some rounds this winter. I'm so very glad I spent the money on a Dillon instead of anything else. These guys know customer service better then anyone I've ever seen. Now if I could just talk them into sending me a Dillon Aero Minigun..... -
650 and NewTek primer fix work around
JesseR replied to JesseR's topic in Dillon Precision Reloading Equipment
Well I can't figure out the difference between the Platforms, but my platform really doesn't have the clearance to accept a tube or a chute. Even if I mill it out, it won't work. So now I'm looking at needing a new platform or sending in the old press for a make over. I'll give Dillon a call tomorrow! -
650 and NewTek primer fix work around
JesseR replied to JesseR's topic in Dillon Precision Reloading Equipment
The 650 has a history of throwing primers so they don't make it in the cup resulting in spent primers on your reloading bench. The NewTek device remove the primer cup and replaces it with a plastic nipple where you attach a hose to drop the spent primers directly in the trash can or anywhere else you want to route the hose. You can see this by type 650 primer on ebay. The older models have a different primer cup which throws even more primers then the newer platform plate. Makes it very messy. -

I can visualize what you are saying about the end washer. If you could post a pic I would really appreciate it. -
650 and NewTek primer fix work around

That's just a home made version of the NewTek device. I can apply that concept to the older model if I ream out the platform primer drop hole. I might just have to mill it out, it would cheaper, but would take some work. -
650 and NewTek primer fix work around

A complete possibility, but I'm in the middle of a large reload. My 550 was GREAT, the used 650 I bought, not so much. I have some ways to mill it out and build a solid chute, but was hoping for a quick fix. I should have known better. To tear it down and ship it in would be a couple of weeks. A very valid and good option and I might do it before winter gets here. Thanks for the suggestion! -
650 and NewTek primer fix work around

It would cost $94 to buy a new platform... I can't stand the primer problem, but I don't feel like spending another $94 on a platform to mount a $20 piece of plastic. I'm sure there is another way, at least I hope so -
I ordered the newtek 650 primer fix and really like the product. My only issues is I must have the older 650 as it won't fit mine. Can anyone tell me how I can adapt this kit to my 650? Thanks, Jesse

I recently picked up a used 650 from a local guy. What he hadn't lost, he broke... Dillon to the rescue with a care package of the needed parts, free of charge, to get it up and running. After really learning everything about this press and getting it fully adjusted, I was able to run 1000 rds of 40 SW through it. WOW is all I can say, the case feeder is a huge benefit over my 550B as well as the indexing shell plate. There is a lot more to observe on each pull, and clearing a stop does take an extra minute, but when you're humming a long, it is very nice! I feel I need to write down all the little things to watch for when moving from a press like the 550 to the 650, little things like adjusting the primer shell tension arm, makes all the difference in the world to Jams and damaged primers. It does have a learning curve, but talk about an improvement over the 550! Just wanted to share my joy.

Good news... Fixed my problem. It was the result of a new 650 owner. When I received the press from the previous owner, the station 1 locator was in backwards, so i thought that it how it goes.. Nevertheless, when you flip it around in the correct position, all works great! I'm happy to have the press running. Thanks to my issues, I've taken the entire press apart, cleaned, oiled and put it back together. I think it's gonna run like a top now. I'm still amazed at how someone can have such a great as a dillon and not take care of it.. Oh well, Happy loading all!

@bmgm37 Did you fix your problem? I found your thread while searching for an answer to my exact same issue! I have a new to me 650 that I'm trying to load 9mm on... So far I can't get it adjusted right. @dillon Thanks for the tips, I'll try all of those before I call you tomorrow. It's a real bummer, I bought this press used from a guy in Arkansas, and after all the missing parts I've ordered, I could have bought it NEW... I can't believe some people who don't take care of such a wonderful machine...

550b: 308 shell plate work for 40 S&W?
JesseR posted a topic in Dillon Precision Reloading Equipment
When I purchased my RL550b, I believe I remember Brian saying the 308 shell plate and pins would work for the 40 S&W. I have the proper 40 S&W power funnel and die set, just not the shell plate. Can anyone confirm this? Thanks, jesse
