  1. Update---I have been unable to replicate the failure to feeds with the same gun and mags with the winchester ammo or remington ammo. I am back to thinking maybe some weak factory ammo or weak mag springs. Dave
  2. I need some feedback if any of you had feeding problems with your M&P 40's and what have you done to fix it. We have been having more and more feeding problems with the rounds dying on the feed ramp. A simple bottom tap brings the gun into battery but these are duty guns and that won't cut it. We shoot winchester factory white box ammo. The guns maybe have 2,500 rounds on them. Final straw today I had 3 failure to feeds shooting a requal 50 round course on mine which previously had not been a problem. I will be contacting the factory but if any of you have had this problem I would be interested in what you did to resolve it. I have some thoughts myself about possible solutions. We could change to different factory ammo...maybe winchester had some quality control issues with weak rounds? Hotter ammo could increase or decrease the number of malfunctions. Try replacing the recoil springs and keep a better round count on them or maybe the magazine springs? This could take a while.... Thanks for your help folks! Dave
  3. I would like to see it moved into the first or second week of June. The kids are out of school and you can bring young folks who are interested or the the whole family. If we want to grow this sport we need make it available when family's can come as a family and experience the Championships and want to return every year. For many years I attended the Second Chance Shoots in Michigan. It was a great piece of Americana that we will never see again but there were a lot of family's and wives that would attend and do other stuff during the day when the shooters were doing their thing but get together in the evenings for the social functions. You also have a lot of graduations high school and college in May that will affect people's attendance with kids or relatives. I understand the shooting schedule is full and folks have a lot of choices to make but for those shooting AP this is their Championship and they will prioritize it in their schedule. Cross over shooters will have to decide on their own where the importance of this shoot lies for them. AP shooting is a specialized sport with the equipment we use in open it doen't have a lot use anywhere else. I have always got the impression that AP was never to concerned about the cross over shooters from other shooting disiplines and this sport is driven by a several hundred hardcore AP shooters. It sounds like range improvements are being made to increase the volume of shooters. I am somewhat confused by the grow the numbers of the match and shorten its length approach to run the match. If I had to guess I would say that maybe Green Valley is having a hard time coming up with enough RO's and volunteers to help run the match. The same problem most gun clubs have. Less days require less people. I know with the exception of the mover a lot of the ranges are done by 3pm in the afternoon with some cushion for bad weather. RO's do a great job and have long days but maybe it is time to supplement them with folks from outside the Green Valley Gun club. Just a thought. See Folks in May Dave
  4. Thanks Alan. Did you find that on the NRA or another web site somewhere? Just trying to verify. Dave
  5. Has anyone heard if the NRA has accepted Mr. Potterfields offer for production class prize of 100 grand for 1900 score? Got my registration materials but I haven't heard anything. Thanks Dave
  6. Growing Action Pistol....As much as tweeking some of rules would have some effect, I think we have seen the greatest affect. Larry Potterfield putting up $100 grand to the first shooter to break 1900 with a production gun. Hats off to Larry for taking the intrest in our sport and stepping up. If you watch the outdoor channel on Wed nights and see all their ads this may be the best marketing tool we could ever hope for to expand Action Pistol. And he doesn't have to pay anyone till it happens which might be next year or 2 years or 3years away. I think it is safe to say that there is not that many people who have the ablilty to shoot 1900 with a production gun and have the gun that can do it. Is it going to cause some chaos....yep. Is it going to cause people to push the production rules...yep. Is it going to be fun to watch...yep. When was the last time a shooting sport offer $100 grand to attain a level of shootin performance? Will people want to watch it to see if it happens on TV, I think so. And that is all good for us. I think this match will help drive some of the smaller matches as guys will want to practice and work out the bugs so to speak or after seeing it on Shooting USA want to try it. The biggest match of the year first off out of the box is like the Daytona 500 for NASCAR. I don't see the dates getting moved so everyone will plan around it. Overall I do think this will create more interest for people to come shoot the match. I think attendance will grow more that this year...and compliments to Mr. Hughes for this years match. Which may cause some problems if they are trying to reduce the number of days that the match is held. If or when someone shoots the 1900 score should we call it the "Potterfield Production Cup"...or "Midway Production Cup"...? For a $100 grand I think they have the right. And that not to say that other Company's cannot step up the plate for shooters using their products in the Production Class that shoot that 1900 and offer their own rewards. I can't wait till next year. Dave
  7. Thanks Dillon, Thanks Doug, It sounds like they still make the part so it may not be too long unless they are out of stock (like primers). I will give you a call if I run in to problems. Dave
  8. I was reloading tonight when the ears broke off the main shaft. The Dillon site shows the Super 1050 with a redesigned crank and shaft. The press is 20 years old and has lots of rounds reloaded off it so no complaints. Not a good time right now with 10m rounds on the floor waiting. Does anyone know if Dillon still makes the old parts or will I have to covert to the new stuff? Also, anyone had their RL 1050 rebuilt and can comment on turn around time? Thanks Dave
  9. This last batch of 9mm I got is a real mixed bag...there are headstamps I have never even heard of before. I think I will use that for production gun & lead bullets as someone else suggested. I have a fair amount of sorted & once fired so I will keep that for more serious games. I load on a 1050 so I not sure how much I will be able to feel on sizing but it is something I am going to watch for when loading the mixed stuff. Bill, I cannot believe an old pin shooter like you would not sort your 45 brass.....you use to dive on the ground for it on the practice range at SC. I have these 115gr fmj Frontier bullets loaded with an OAL 1.125 seated and it still will not go all the way in to the case gauge....About the length of the case rim still out. I usually load these OAL to 1.150 pretty much like WINCH Ball ammo OAL. If I load them to that length they stick way out of the gauge. If I use Rem or Rainer 115's they case gauge fine. The Frontiers are a plated bullet. My conclusion is the bullet shoulder is longer (or different shape) than the other bullets and prevents it from going into the guage but before I load a bunch of these I would be interested any other thoughts on what this could be. Not sure how much deeper I want to seat them. Every time I change seating depth it is back out to chrono and adjust the powder measure. Thanks for your help guys! Dave
  10. Do any of you high volume 9mm shooters bother to sort brass by headstamp for matches? And has anyone ever used Frontier Plated bullets (from South Africa) 115gr FMJ? I am finding that they have a longer shoulder on the bullet and affect seating depth. Thanks Dave
  11. Points taken guys, but there are thousands of USPSA open shooters who have open guns who could come shoot the match. How many of them are going to have the scope mounts that they can jam against the barricade and hold the gun against it. Not too many. Specialized equipment hurts when you try to attract new shooters. Without the mover the same shooters would not have to worry about stick shift mounts or different scopes and could use what they have. Attendance in 2008 was 151, 2006 was 142, 2005 was 159 , not sure what this years was I haven't got my match book yet but I think Mr. Hughes and others did a good recruiting job to get more shooters plus it was the 30th Annv. Match. 2010 could be a tough year to duplicate the numbers of 2009 with the layoffs and job loses around the country. I like the idea of moving the match back a couple weeks in to June. There are lots of graduations High School and College at the end of May that can cause conflicts for people. The High School Trap shooting programs are out there. There is one in the county where I live. It is supported by local clubs. Action Pistol Clubs are a lot harder to find. I alway thought the Colleges with Rifle Teams would be a good place to start. Just some Ideas Thanks Guys Dave
  12. Tom, Thanks for taking to time gather some input. Suggestions for Action Pistol Bianchi Cup. In no specific order. 1. There is not enough AP shooters alone to support the sport. We must have crossovers, USPSA, PPC, Bullseye, Pin & Steel shooters....we need everybody for this sport to thrive. That said every time we allow for specialized equipment we narrow the field of people who can play the game. 2. Courses of Fire---Practical--Allow prone only at 50 not 25yd. Falling Plates---all shot standing no prone...for us older folks throwing ourselves on the ground isn't that much fun anymore. Barricade--No touching the barricade with gun or hands. Mover---I kind of like the mover but....the average person cannot set up the mover to practice it. This is 25% of the match. People will not come if they don't think they have a chance to be competative and not be able to practice it. It is also a log jam being slow to move people through, if you 2 days of bad weather your in trouble. Replace it with a Falling Steel course with 16 targets, shoot it 3 times for 48 targets or 480 points. You can score it fastest with most points or have a par time to shoot in or three different distances whatever or however you want to do it. This would move more people through, have some spectator appeal and elminate the scoring of paper targets. Finally add one rotating course of fire from the Action Pistol courses available with a different one every year, this would make 5 courses of fire increasing round count from the 192 rounds shot. Announce the courses every year in November that gives us 6 months to plot, plan and practice. 3. Open guns skip the trigger rules, Production keep it reasonable don't go to light...we are trying to get new people in to the sport. 4. If we still have low numbers consider letting shooters shoot any or all classes , open, metallic, production, maybe add a seperate revolver class. Most of us there all week...and we come to shoot. It is really important that we try to grow this sport and that is going to require some changes. Good Luck Dave
