  1. The black stalker stock/forend is a good idea. If you call midwest gun works they might still have the original Browning ones which are much better than the after market parts. I still use mine as a back up gun, it is still fun to shoot.

  2. The big advantage is the speed load. With your 1 piece lifter you will not have that feature. It is not something you can add without spending more than it would cost to buy another gun. You can send the barrel off to get cut and choke tubes added (I assume it has a long and likely full choke barrel) The a5 will be one of the most reliable guns but you need to set it for light loads and find the lightest shell it will cycle so that the recoil will not slow you down. The gun will cycle faster that any of the modern guns but the recoil on heavier loads can slow you. As far as I know there is not an aftermarket bolt handle available.

  3. jimmcc, I am just a browning guy. I have always hunted and loaded with my left hand using the browning speed load. The transition to 3 gun with my auto 5 or gold is an easy one. You are wasting the Golds potential by using it in open. You need to throw those shells in by hand, and never worry about running dry. I actually think the auto 5 balances better but it is a little more difficult to load because the carrier spring is a little stiff. I like to tinker and adjust the gold but I don't have the skills or tools to tear down an auto 5 to mess with the carrier spring.
