What are the convincing arguments in favor of LongShot?
Only that I already use it for other stuff, and have at least 12LBS of it on hand, and currently have no HS6, and only buy powder 32LBS at a time...
Nothing that cant be fixed with a quick phone call...
Thanks for the info!

Anybody using and liking Longshot in 9MM MAJOR ?
Longshot seems to be the least favorite of the most likely to be appropriate powder selections for 9MM MAJOR.
I have not been keeping up on the major 9 learning curve and may have missed some important information that says Longshot sucks for this application ?
Velocity spread a bit too wide ?
Muzzle blast a bit too fierce ?
Accuracy issues ?
I will be investigating short OAL [Glock mag length] loads with approx. 115-125Gr jacketed [ NOT plated ]bullets - 147Gr data not needed .
Any information helpful!
Thanks in advance!

The Auto Comp loads were nicer to shoot and more consistent.
Nicer as in muzzle blast or feel vs LONGSHOT ?
Consistent as in extreme velocity spread or ...
I ask because soon I will be loading Major 9MM and my life would be much easier if I could load with LONGSHOT.
Certainly seems Autocomp, and HS6 have quite a few fans - Im sure there are reasons for that - My questions are directed at finding those reasons.
Sorry to be long and windy to ask silly questions, any information appreciated!

Lee Factory Crimp Die ( AKA FCD )
Pretty much any round that is crimped in that die ( .469 - .470 at case mouth for 45 ACP ) will fall into a case gauge .
The FCD Works slick for 40S&W too ...

For me rifle sights are faster on a shotgun.
Of course I am not " fast " compared to many of the other forum members, so take my opinion as .O2 from some guy, and not anything more.

Para sponsored a pin match several years ago .
Rules required you to use Para supplied pistols , most looked fairly low mileage but slightly used .
I have never seen so many DNF's in a single match .
Maybe just a fluke or statistical anomaly ...

Shaun,
Welcome !
IMHO that's an advantage to the Glock platform , most drop in parts really do drop in , and fit well .
Unless you have some radical mods in mind , pretty much anybody can do about anything themselves without spending $ on special tools .
( right after I thought this I remembered you will need a special socket to install sights , less than $5 , sometimes included with the sights )

IMHO the only advantage to the 1911 platform over the Glock is the trigger .
The Glock trigger can be improved easily , and can be pretty good , but not as good as a 1911 trigger .
This statement applies to my experience only , I have heard tales of custom Glocks having trigger pulls that are equal to 1911's , but have not ever felt one that fits that description .
Glocks have an advantage in availability of cheap mags .
I have a G35 that I like quite a bit .

I cheaped out and got the Ed Brown jig , and some of the ceramic 90 degree stones from Brownells .
Several months and many sears later I finally got things figured out .
Save your components that work now in a safe place , modify new parts .
If you never plan on doing another trigger , have a real gunsmith do it and save time , money and cuss less .

I have not shot a caspian , other then a custom 38 Super open gun several years ago .
Why are they not more popular in Limited ?
I know the magwell and backstrap are different .
Mags only available from Caspian ? Do they work ?
The single stack I built on a Caspian frame turned out great .
So why are limited Caspians so seldom seen ?

The Ranier plated 200 Gr. FP has worked very well for me in 45 .
Not quite as accurate as Zero JHP's but will still hold all A's past 35 yards .
Berrys plated are every bit as good as the Raniers in 40 and 45 through my guns .
The Win FMJ's ( and most other FMJ's ) have an exposed lead base .
AMERC brass is thick and short , if you shove a plated bullet in an unbelled case ( short cases don't get belled as much as longer cases ) it can shave the plating right up one side of the bullet . A lee FCD will mash the deformed bullet back into a shape that will chamber . This should be avoided . Pressures can get scary high when this happens . I have proof .
Plated bullets should not be crimped at all .
Bullet dia. plus 2X case wall thickness minus .002 - .003 measured right at the mouth works for me .
Just remove the bell .
Bullet setback is usually due to the case being the wrong size to grip the bullet , crimping more won't help at all , it can actually the bullet looser .
Make sure the hole in the case is smaller than the bullet by .003 +- .001 and they will not set back .
Actually measure stuff once in a while , ESPECIALLY the expander on a new set of dies .
Just my .02 , works for me , YMMV , Etc...

p.s. you can get non-rechargeable here for .69 http://www.botachtactical.com/nabccr123.html
Anybody use these batteries ? Are they equivalent to typical namebrand 123's ?
I have been using Surefire bulk packs for awhile and they seem to be just as good as Duracell or Eveready .

For the USPSA/IPSC Competitor who has everything....almost!
For that price you could set up one hell of an airsoft range in the basement and practice movement etc.
Just a thought....
Duck hunt was awsome for the time it came out . Many hours of fun .

how would you draw your gun???
Buy a weak side holster.
I kinda forgot to mention that , yeah a weak side holster . $ 20.00 Uncle Mikes with a little massage prior to surgery to make reholstering easier .
Glocks have no manual safety , so I,m good there .
Actually weakhand drawing came easier than I had imagined it would .
Hell , I have to shoot a USPSA match with only one hand , if for no other reason than just to have done it .

I just got one ordered right before I had my right shoulder worked on so it will be a while before it gets tested at the range.
Seems sturdy enough for the price, the base looks to be aluminum and the mounting seems fairly solid and also aluminum .
Kinda heavy and a little large for a pistol sight IMHO .
Fits a Mechtech CCU fairly well height wise with room for a cushion on the " stock ".
Center of glass sits somewhere around 1.85 inches above the top edge of the mounting rail .
Needs access from the bottom to replace the battery ( the rearmost position on a Mechtech CCU gives just barely enough room to get the battery changed without dismounting ).
The dot is not really round , or well defined , but is usable for $30 .
Just .02

Due to recent shoulder surgery I have use of only one hand , the other is in a sling .
I really don't plan on shooting any classifiers or anything else where it might matter , just want to make the best of my current situation and get some shooting in while I'm off work . I have alot of free time on my hand ( singular ).
I could use some weakhand practice anyway ....
I can rack the slide by catching the front sight on the holster if I have to ( but I'm not wild about it ).
Would it be permissable to request the help of the RO at the LAMR and UASC commands ?
I can reload during the stage by reholstering after dropping the mag and shoving a mag into the gun .
In anothe thread Lynn Jones said :
" the new rule book will help this problem:
10.2.10.1 Exception – In a weak hand/strong hand stage, a competitor who has physical use of only one hand
may use the same hand for both weak and strong without penalty. "
Is the new rule book in effect yet ?
Thanks in advance !

I still have some old CCI large magnum pistol primers left from the mid 80's.
( the old style packaging where 100 primers are about the size of a book of matches )
These were stored in a box with old motorcycle parts in hot attics , unheated/cooled drafty garages , and damp basements for many years .
On the rare occasion I actually need a large mag pistol primer , they still work fine , and light large charges of H110 with no noticable difference than when they were new. Last used a few several months ago .
I also have some old Win. small rifle primers I bought 15 years or so ago which had aged/discolored yellowish tint to the boxes at that time . They still work fine for practice loads and I really don't see much difference in performance between these and the current production WSR's .
Oh yeah , I also dropped a box of primed 357 brass and lost a few under the workbench next to the washing machine for a couple of years , after removing dead spiders and lint , they made plinking loads with no noticable problems or failures to fire .
Just one guys experiences , YMMV
Try em and see .

9MM MAJOR with LONGSHOT - Why not ?

Yeah, HS6 and Autocomp seem to have alot of fans, and loads are right there.
But, I gotta do everything the hard way.
If all else fails I suppose I could break down and add a couple more jugs to the collection.
I hear the Autocomp 8's are about half the size of most other 8LB jugs...
Maybe I just need a bigger house?
Thanks!
