Hi Folks,
due to my schedule and the current lack of readily available components, I have just gotten around to setting up my brand new XL650. The shortage of components forced me to thoroughly read the manual and view the DVD and meticulously set up my rig. I was able to get an existing loaded cartridge from my reseller and used that as a guide to set up my seating depth. In working with the components that I was able to get, I loaded 100 rounds with the following components: Cal 45, Starline brass, Winchester Large Pistol Primers, Ranier Leadsafe Bullets 230 gn Roundnose jacketed/plated, 3.7 - 3.8 gn Clays, OAL 1.265" as per the "loaded Round" from my reseller.
The press performed magnificently with the only hiccup being the loaded round chute needing to be pinched in some more so that it would not hang up on the Case Insert Slide Cam. No worries after pinching the metal sides in a little.
The surprise is that when I measured my loaded rounds, I found that my OAL was longer by about .02". On examining the bullets I found that the plated lead has extruded through the little hole that is in the seating die creating a littlt nipple that made the OAL larger than originally intended.
I checked the OAL without including the nipple and it was pretty much on the money. I also checked the fit of the cartridge in the barrel of my Glock 21SF and it fits great as it also does in my magazines. I do not know how this will affect the performance of this round and since I have never come aross any mention of this issue either here or at the Dillon forum, I thought I would ask around before I go the range next week to punch some paper.
Thanks in advance for any light that can be shed on this issue,
Alan
