I picked up an Optisan CX6 a few months ago and have been impressed. The reticle is busy, but very well thought out and useful. The lines are extremely fine making it easier on long range targets over the fatter reticles. It's a true 1x as well. I'm liking it.

Buy the M2 and never look back. I see every other shotgun having reliability issues at various points, but my M2 never fails - ever.

Bluegrass Sportsman's League (BGSL) New Year's Eve Tactical Shotgun Extravaganza (12/31/15) - featuring a mixture of shotgun-only stages: bird, buck and/or slug. Divisions: Open, Classic (Pump) and Standard (Semi-Auto). Rules are simple - everything is 10 seconds. Match will occur during daylight hours only. No high velocity magnum slugs; 00 buck only (or 20 ga equivalent); and bird shot #7.5 or smaller. Setup 8:00am and hot at 10:00am. Round count TBD. MATCH SIGNUP HERE.

Monthly 3Gun match at the Bluegrass Sportsman's League - Wilmore, Kentucky. Divisions will include Open, Heavy Irons, Heavy Optics, Tac Irons and Tac Optics. 5-6 stages including longer range rifle. Bring at least 5 slugs (no high speed stuff) and check your rifle ammo (no steel core on steel).
Online match registration is now open for BGSL members and past ROs. Non-members reg opens May 10. Limited to 66 shooters including ROs.

Tomorrow's 3Gun match @ BGSL is CANCELLED. While the morning weather forecast looks passable, the guarantee of severe thunderstorms beginning and staying after lunch create safety issues. Very sorry - see you next month.

My 24" Barreled M2 is my go-to gun, never once has it let me down.

Do both - APEX full kit AND gunsmith attention. My M&P45 is around 4lbs.

Here's another M&P customized by Mod1 Firearms that I just got back from Pike this week - in 45ACP for IDPA CDP.
Novaks front and rear, Apex FSS full kit, undercuts, stippling all around (disregard the safety frame holes; plugs are coming).

Fastest reload is the one you don't have to make. Get a Magpul 40 and stick a TTI extension on there. Use a mag pouch for emergency and/or required reloads from the belt and then have two 30 rounders coupled. 3Gun is like golf - you don't know which club your going to need until you step up to the ball. Blade Tech AR pouch for me.

I recently built a fairly light 3Gun 16" upper with the same demands you've outlined.
Anderson light upper (no FA, no dust cover)
Nordic 16" mid-length barrel
Seekins ATC comp
YHM lo-pro block
VooDoo lightweight BCG
AP Custom 15" carbon-fiber hand guard
Total price - just under $700.
Used current lower with SD3G trigger and standard carbine spring/buffer. With ACS stock, the rifle balances right in the center of the mag well.
The only thing I'd change on mine is going with adjustable gas - but it runs fine as is.

A Direct Gas gun will be fine and likely less expensive. I'd go with either the S&W or the Anderson and then shoot the heck out of it.

Just built a new 3Gun upper and took it out yesterday. It is a 16" mid-length Nordic barrel with a standard non-adjustable YHM low profile gas block; Voodoo Innovations lower mass BCG and standard carbine buffer/spring; AP Customs carbon fiber hand guard; and Seekins ATC brake. Great accuracy (.60" group at 100) and it ran 100%, but failed to lock back on an empty mag most of the time (shot most with only one round in various mags to test function); and it ejected all cases forward of the firing line at 1 o'clock. Recoil seemed to be a bit more than I was expecting with the mid-length, low mass carrier and muzzle brake.
Sounds like its over-gassed, right? Adjustable gas block needed? Thanks for any feedback.
It should toss brass at 4 o clock,1 o clock is undergassed,u cant have that shooting competitively, going w an adjustable block will allow u to tune the gun so youll have lower recoil,less muzzle rise, and the ability to stay on target easier.I like the BTE blocks, theyre cost effective and work well in addition to being small and light. JP and a few others make good blocks but theyre pricey and do the same as the little guy., Once I found the BTE stuff its all Ive used.. hope this helps

Took it out again this afternoon and it ran like a champ. 100% reliable and only 2 instances of it not locking back on empty; used a variety of 7 mags/brands. Still kicking brass to 1 o'clock though. Recoil is good and it runs fast. Tried to outrun it with the SD3G trigger and couldn't.
Could it simply be the case of a new upper and BCG getting to know the existing lower and bolt catch?
I made zero changes to rifle since last session and same handloads.

I asked for clarity on this issue before. I was told that chest rigs, drop legs and 10 speed type carriers are fine. I did not ask about pockets. Basically its No reloading the shotgun with shells carried on the gun or arm band, no ready mag and no mag couplers.
I spoke with 3GN staff via email yesterday (10/22/14) and posed my original question as posted above. Their response reinforced what Zodiac has shared.

I apologize if this has been discussed, but I have a question re: several of the new Classifier Stages from 3 Gun Nation; specifically "Reload for Times 12 Steel" and "Long Run-2." Both of these stages specify that all reloads must come from the belt. I'm not trying to be dense, but what exactly does this mean? Does it literally mean that all ammunition must be stored on the belt and that any other form of ammunition carry is prohibited, i.e. pockets, chest rig, etc? Or does it mean that all ammunition must be stored on the shooter and may not be staged on the course, on the firearm or through the use of magazine couplers?
This is less of an issue for rifle and handgun magazines which are worn predominantly on the belt, though many shooters may still use pockets. It is primarily an issue for the storage of shotgun ammunition. With so many loading methods and different shot shell carriers, many shooters may not be carrying shot shells on their belts anymore. If interpreted to mean belt only to the exclusion of all other carry methods, it would seem to disadvantage shooters that primarily utilize chest rigs, special shotgun reload belts (e.g. Chameleon) or pockets; and would seem to advantage shooters that primarily use a belt storage method. I would agree 100% that a shooter should have several loading techniques in their bag of tricks, but 3 Gun has always been a sport in which whatever works for you is good to go. That freedom of choice is one of the things that makes 3 Gun so popular and appealing to new and experienced shooters alike.
I'd like to know what shooters think and maybe what the 3GN staff intended in using that language - from the belt only or simply on the shooters person?
