  1. Very nice. I want to do something similar when I get tired of production (which may be never). Have you shot it back to back with a 2011 and if so, how does it compare? Have you weighed the entire gun? Will the slide still lock to the rear with your follower mods?

It is lighter than a 2011 for sure, but I'm use to the M&P platform shooting LOTS of Production with a 9 Pro. The weight of the 20 round mags, tungsten guide rod, mag well, etc, makes it shoot REALLY solid, for a polymer gun. The reduction in slide weight makes it feel even better to ME... I've never shot more than a few rounds from a 2011, so I don't have a real frame of reference.

I FSS Trigger from Apex makes a HUGE difference. I installed it myself, and tweaked the contact surfaces, and spring combos. Even the guys who shoot 1911s who have tested it usually respond with a "holy sh__"! The guys who shoot Glocks and M&Ps, and even XDs just drool...

The slide locks to the rear FINE with the shortened followers. But you MUST use XL springs. Still get 20 rounds (19 reloadable) with the XL springs from SSS.

Thanks for the insight. I definitely understand a nice trigger upgrade as I've been running a Burwell trigger for a couple years now. I wonder how a brass magwell would feel on the m&p. Seems like it would make sense for weight distribution.

I'm also interested in what loads you like to run through it.

  2. Although I haven't been there, they hold IDPA matches at rattlesnake ridge. It's south of Fort Campbell, so might be a drive for you. An even further drive and you have USPSA, IDPA, and multigun in Dickson, TN with the north tennessee practical shooters and music city tactical shooters.

  3. Shooting jacketed bullets after lead usually leaves small patches of lead throughout the barrel, and make it even more difficult to remove. I once bought a 686 that had perfect rifling in the barrel, but a "match" range rod couldn't enter the bore. It ended up being really badly leaded, and the previous owner had apparently tried firing jacketed through it to "blow" out the lead. The rifling looked perfect & everything, but it was all lead. It took 4 cycles with the Foul Out to remove all the lead, and there was a great deal of it. I use a Lewis now, on the rare occasions I have a lead issue. I have used the Chore Boy approach too, and it does work well. I only dig out the Foul Out when I'm feeling lazy.

Seems unanimous that the "Chore Boy" approach is the way to go.

Ditto. I use it every thousand rounds or so. I don't get a lot of lead fouling in my m&p anyway, but I like clean stuff.

  4. Not sure how far west you are in KY, but there is a uspsa match near Bowling Green tomorrow. You should bring it out and shoot what ya got, assuming you have a holster and mag pouches anyway. Rockcastle shooting center is the host.

  5. pro 9 in production here. Replaced the front sight with a red dawson .115 wide-don't remember the height. Dan Burwell trigger competition trigger job. WELL worth the money. S&W recommended I replace the recoil spring at 5k, so I went with a non captured steel rod and 15# ISMI. I kind of want to try rounding out the magwell a little (within legal limits of course) and plan on replacing the barrel at 10k rounds.

Currently using 125grain velocity lead bullets over 4.3 solo 1K (slow batch). Very consistent at 1.13 OAL.

  6. So there I was working my way through a house type stage. I shoot an array of targets and then begin a reload as a turn right to go through a door. I hit the door frame pretty hard but didn't think anything of it as a finished the reload and engaged another array. On to the final array I reach for another mag and there is nothing there. Uh oh. I look down and see that the outer belt had been ripped from my inner belt and the weight of the mags pulled the mag pouches off the end of the belt and onto the ground. I didn't know what to do so I just shot the chambered round at a steel target and showed clear. 3 targets remaining, so that was that for the day. Lesson learned. I didn't think something so small could have such an effect. Maybe I should wear a helmet when I shoot?

  7. They didn't count mine either.

And maddox's classifier shows as 12AL, which is not a classifier I can find. I'd inform the MD at the Alabama Sectional and/or your Sectional Coordinator as something is clearly wrong.

Nothing wrong. Apparantly, USPSA didn't think there was enough competition in production to count our final scores as a classifier. Limited and Open were both counted though.

  8. Are you overstretching? Maybe try some jumping jacks with light stretching instead. The older you get, the longer it will take to get warmed up and loose. Are you coming out too fast too early? Running negative splits every time you run is a great way to "train" without getting technical.
