Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Sorry for the extra slow response to this, but I solved the problem by switching to Montana Gold 180GR FMJ bullets. Since doing so I've loaded/shot 2000 rounds without issue.
  2. The factory UMC rounds are loaded at 1.130 OAL. I've loaded a couple of rounds at 1.130 OAL as well and they still do not chamber properly. Interesting note though is that I pulled some UMC bullets and made up a couple of rounds at 1.130 OAL using that bullet and they chamber just fine. I MIC'd the Gateways vs the UMC bullets and the UMCs are around .399-.400 in diameter and the Gateways are .401-.402 from the 10 I spot checked or so.
  3. Trying to get my press dialed in to load .40 and I'm running into an issue. I bought a Mini Mr. Bulletfeeder for my 550, which required going to a single station RCBS taper crimp seater die. My gun is a G35 w/ KKM barrel and I've got some pictures but it wont let me post them. Anyways, what I'm running into: 1) Factory Remington UMC round in chamber seats completely and has a slight amount of play. 2) My own load at 1.15 OAL with a Gateway .40 bullet (.401 diameter) does not chamber completely by dropping it in. If you compare them side by side it is like my round sticks out of the chamber ~1/32" of an inch or so. The pistol will go into battery when testing with the round but it is extremely difficult to rack the slide to eject the round and obviously is not right. Lastly one other test that I did is run an empty case through the last stage on the press to make sure that the flare on the case is gone. Without a bullet, it drops into the barrel without issue and behaves exactly like the UMC round. I've attempted to load to different OAL and used multiple different pieces of brass, etc but the issue persists. Does anybody have any ideas or have you run into anything similar? Thanks.
