Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Have any of you guys used Federal NT brass in .40S&W? Windeners has some once-fired for just $29/1000. It does say the primper pockets are crimped so that is something I would have to deal with but it seems like it would be nice to get 100% one headstamp. It seems like this should truly be once fired as I am sure it all came from police ranges that demand non-toxic ammo. I dunno. What do you guys think of it? Is there a downside other than having to swage the primer pockets?
  2. Bad news! Just got an email form the match coordinator. It's just as I feared. This being the first match at this club allowing rifles, the club has not yet purchased new steel targets rated for major rifles. .223 will be the cap for at least this match. That sucks because I was getting pretty excited about the idea. Thanks for all the input though guys! When they get the new targets I am taking the Garand out for sure and I will get some video.
  3. That's awesome! I'll bet you got some attention with that! I have an AR on order myself. But the more I read about this heavy metal class the more I thnk it sounds like my style. I was looking at a nice 870 pump today that would be perfect for heavy metal.
  4. Fun and loud. I like that. Once I was out shooting in the desert with my nephews and their girlfriends. They were shooting .22s, a couple handguns, and an AR. I took the Garand out and shot at this little sheetmetal tank they had been picking away at while everyone was consumed with their own plinking. The two girls literally ducked for cover and the tank, which hadn't moved in all the shots it had taken previously, flipped over. I will never forget the sight of the girls ducking like they were under fire and my nephew standing there with an ear to ear grin saying "Now that's a rifle!"
  5. Thanks for all the responses guys! I have had the M1 for a while and I can definitely load it faster than I can an AR. I am definitely aware of 'M1 thumb' and will be very wary of chambering that digit. I sent an email to the match coord. and will be looking at going for this if he gives the all clear. Thanks again
  6. I pretty much have just that, with one exception. I will have the Garand and a 12ga Mossberg 500 pump, but my handgun is a Dan Wesson SS Custom 1911 in .40S&W. What class would that combo put me in?
  7. Derek45, I shot the Garand in a highpower match and got stomped by ARs there too (more my fault than the gun). But, as you say, I had more fun. My Garand. Aint she a beaut'?
  8. Thanks guys! I wanted to make sure it wasn't a ridiculous idea before I bothered the match coordinator. He is a busy guy. I will contact him and make sure there are no club issues with the M1. Not in socal, I'm in southern utah. This is the first 3-gun match at this location (they just got this range approved for rifles) so they are keeping the rifle stages short to break everybody in safety-wise. They emailed a pic of one of the two stages involving rifles and it is very short and simple. 14rds all shot from box A. I will let you guys know if I do it and will try to get some video if I do.
  9. Hey guys! Total newb here. In fact, this is my first post. I am very new to USPSA shooting and I have been reading a lot here to improve my handgun skills but I just found out that the next match is a 3-gun. My first thought was "I'll skip this one" but the friend that dragged me there the first time is pushing me to participate and I must say I am tempted. Here is the issue. My rifle collection includes bolt action hunting rifles, bolt action milsurp rifles, and an HRA M1 Garand rifle. My only shotgun isn't a lot better, a 4-shot mossberg 500 with a 28" barrel - but that's another topic. So my questions are these: 1) Is the Garand an acceptable USPSA 3-gun rifle? I know it will not be very competitive and I don't care. Being my first match I am sure I wouldn't do that well with anything. I'm just in it for the experience and the fun. I am just concerned that it may not be allowed as I would think the .30 could damage the steel targets. 2) Any ammo rules? I have a bunch of greek surplus that I would like to use. 3) Any rules on how the ammo must be carried? I would just plan on using the old WWII 'clips on the sling' method unless that was verboten. 4) Anything else I should know? Thanks in advance.
