It's pretty light, but you certainly know you have something on your face.  I don't get a crisp view, probably because of my eyesight.  I've not messed with mine in many weeks.  It's the kid's game now.

I wear glasses and don't need the insert, actually made it worse than without. I'm still waiting to figure out how to get the handset (3D printed Shadow 2) to index the same as my "real" gun. If I test back to back, the dot rides about 1/4" as I perceive it out of the bottom of the window in the simulator. I end up slightly cocking my wrist to play the game and if I overdo it that totally screws my "real" draw. I went a little nuts with the thing when I first purchased it and had a big surprise at my first match after a month or so of fairly heavy use. I haven't messed with it in a couple of weeks now, but I do have an idea how to mod the grip to allow me to fine tune the dot. I'll see how it goes ...

Maybe leave prone for club matches at least. At majors the odds it will rain are high, and someone has to start on that stage. That squad gets to lay in the mud a 9am and deal with that all day. Vs the squad that shot the day before when it was dry.

I get everything can't be equal, but I also don't want to lay in the mud first thing in the morning.....again.

I think it was Area 8 two years ago we shot the prone stage in several inches of standing water. It was a miserable experience and certainly not the same challenge as when it was dry. The port was low enough that Open guns were kicking up small geysers with every shot lol.

  3. I just did a batch of 5000 in a dollar store bin with a pressure washer. Spotless after an overnight soak and a few minutes of agitation with the pressure washer. I wouldn't go out and purchase a pressure washer to clean brass lol but if you already have one it works great.

  4. I geeked out pretty hard on the thing when I got it after Nathanb recommended it. It's a lot of fun but I am having an issue with the 320-style grip module screwing up my actual live-fire index a bit. It's a subtle but very real difference. I'm on the fence whether or not I'm going to stick with it until they either add a way to change point of impact or add a 2011 or CZ grip module.

Great info - thanks!  How does the MPA compare to the Air? I've got an optics ready Air which I love but was thinking about trying an MPA Hybrid of some flavor (base, IDPA or LO Comp - likely just the base Hybrid).  Seems to me the Air is a crazy value in the handfit 2011 world. I'm wondering if an MPA would be a step up or more just a lateral move. Brazos looks like a good value for a custom, handbuilt gun, that's for sure.  How long is their wait, if you know.  TIA!

The MPA is nicer than the Air, but that impression probably has more to do with the stock polymer grip on the Air and a "more custom" aluminum grip on the MPA. The MPA grip fits my hand absolutely perfectly as well. I bought my BUL armory I think in 2020 if that matters. I bought my Brazos two years ago and IIRC I waited about 12-13 weeks from order to delivery.

  6. I own and have plenty of rounds through most of the guns mentioned in this thread.

I have a Brazos SC for Open, 100% reliable from day-1 and I would (and probably will) buy another one.

I have a Bul SAS II Air, 100% reliable from day-1. Won't buy another, but that is because I switched to optics before they offered that option.

I own a Prodigy, the 4.25" model, and I was an "early adopter" that purchased at release. I've had all of the reported issues, sent it back to Springfield and also had a local smith redo the trigger. It's finicky about mags, prefers Atlas to MBX, but has otherwise run fine post-repairs. I would not buy another one, there are other sub-2k options out there nowadays that I would take a shot on.

Finally, I bought an MPA for Handgun Nats last year when they opened up the LO spots. Gun is perfectly fine, runs great. YMMV. I would not buy another MPA, I'd go for a little more and buy a Brazos. If it wasn't a short notice thing I probably wouldn't have one.

All said, only the Prodigy didn't run out of the box. It is the cheapest option by far, it was a brand-new design, and Springfield made it right with a sub two-week turnaround. YMMV.

  7. I'm all for dots in any/all divisions for purely selfish reasons. I'm blind as a bat although I do occasionally get stubborn and shoot my limited or SS rigs. It never lasts, I can't see WTF I am doing. If optics are legal in Revo, I'll get classified for sure.

  8. I used the STI insert and it took about five minutes with a file to get it to fit. Figured it was easy enough to replace the trigger block if it didn't work and I have open and limited guns that the holster could be used for as a fall back.

I took the side off the holster, aligned the trigger block with the gun, scribed a line and hand filed until if fit correctly.

I seem to recall someone posted that if you contact Trijicon they will send you the correct length screws.

That was me, call Trijicon and they will send you the correct screws gratis. I had them in my grubby mitts two days after calling.

I ran my Prodigy in an IDPA match today after a $60 action job by my gunsmith and installing the Atlas guide rod. Ran perfectly in 20 degree temps. I have an Aftec extractor coming and will probably polish and ream at some point just for kicks.

To be fair I do hear a lot of guys say things like "I'm just competing against myself"... "I'm just hear to have fun" or "I just want to get better at shooting"...."I'm here for the comradery"..."I don't care how I finish" Some variation of these things.

For me, being realistic I know I am not going to win when I show up for the match. That doesn't mean I am not taking the competition seriously and trying my best to improve. Both things can be true at the same time.

  11. I went to Mountain West Optical on the recommendation of ESS when I wanted to update my glasses. He made me two inserts, one for irons with a split prescription (distance left eye, +2.00 right) and one for optics with regular prescription. I had no problem adjusting to the split and it works great. I actually wear it for optics as well, YMMV.

This thread seems to have experienced some drift.

Back on topic: it appears that Springfield prodigy plates are shipping. My order finally went to "awaiting shipment." One step closer to limited optics 👍🏻

Just got my Trijicon pattern this week. Off-topic note: contact Trijicon and they will send you the correct length screws for an SRO gratis.

  13. I am running the SC Open this year, exclusively feeding it Eley factory ammo. 29 matches and counting without a hiccup (the gun, not the shooter lol). Zero issues with the guns or mags (MBX, purchased with the gun). For the money I could not be a more satisfied customer.

I have run the .38 sc out of my SV. it dosn't make major with poppies . It comes in at 162PF. cycled and shot fine . I'd recommend it .

FWIW I've been shooting the .38SC major all year. I chrono'ed at 177PF at Area 8, Brazos comp with no popples.

Main reason is that the only tape guns available are the ones DAA sells and those don't last and are prone to issues.

(And the people pasting don't know how to fill them)

Don't last and prone to issues? I don't know anyone that has had that experience. I have many many thousands of pasters thru mine without any issues. Except rain, but that has nothing to do with the tape gun ;->

With the amount of money that is spent on equipment, training and match entry/travel, hovering this close to the edge simply makes no sense.

The SIG ammo at the center of this only makes 129PF according to the specifications on the box.

Perhaps the official specs of the ammo should be 135PF before it’s accepted as match ammo, then it should comfortably make 125 out of just about any gun

We are talking about a Sig factory team shooter using Sig match certified ammo. What about this scenario makes no sense? 🤨
