  1. I picked up a used Dillon 650 that was set up for loading .45ACP. I don't plan on loading .45 and would like to switch this over for 9mm. To save a little cash, I'd like to use existing parts where possible. Once switched over, I'll just sell off the .45-specific parts. Eventually I'll add .223 to this, but for now, I only need to set up for 9mm. That said, here are my questions:

    1. Caliber conversion kit: I assume the shellplate, locator buttons and casefeed adapters are NOT compatible between .45 and 9mm, correct?

    2. Toolhead and powder die: I assume these ARE identical between .45 and 9mm, so I can just use the existing toolhead and powder die, correct?

    3. 650 priming quick-change: I changed out the large primer disc (not sure what it's called - the metal disk that holds the primers prior to them being pushed into the cases) for the small primer disc, and also swapped out the primer magazine tube for the smaller magazine tube. So I don't need the priming quick-change part or any other priming system related parts, do I?

    4. The 5pk of 1" lock rings will allow me to use Lee dies in the 650, correct?

    5. Will the 10pk of pistol de-priming pins work in the Lee depriming die?

    6. On the primer punch (the part that pushes primers into cases), there is a 9/16" nut. What type of wrench are you using to get at that nut? None of my open end wrenches could get in there and actually have room to turn. Is finger tight on that nut sufficient?

    7. Is the casefeed tube the same for .45 and 9mm?

    Thanks!

Buy the caliber conversion kit for 9mm. Since you will need everything in it. ie the shell plate locator buttons powder funnel( goes inside the powder die) case feed adapter I think it's green. You may need a small pistol case feed ate too. Dillon recapping pins are different than lee. Lock rings just use the ones on the lee dies. You want the primer seater tight. Use a box end wrench. An the case feed tube is the same.
  2. Mean old guy here...please buy a loading manual. ALL you seek to know is within its covers.

Guys for the ops original question the way I read it Pat gave the best answer. All loading manual have the data for the projectiles he it talking about.
  3. If you haven't fixed it yet. Remember that the case feeder plunger hits the case twice. Once on the bottom and once about half way up or so. I found the second time is the more critical of the two. You really just want it to kiss it at that point. To much and it will start to wobble around like you described. Just adjust the linkage. It is a. PITA in my opinion to get it setup. I still like it though once I figured it out.

  4. There is a lot of talk on an other forum that would probably answer most of your questions. Look up snipers hide forum and go to the two reloading sections. Good info there to and most of it is for bolt guns.

If I remember right you should hit an accuracy node around 41-42gr. With an OAL of 2.80ish

  5. Curious about the quality of once fired Hornady crimped in primer 223 brass compared to LC NATO brass?

Anybody had any experience with it. I believe the stuff I'm looking at was the 55gr. FMJ brass cases training ammo load. It is head stamped as Hornady.
