  1. If I understand the USPSA rules as they are now ( ), if I had a Saiga, I'd have to shoot that in Open, right?

That would mean I would have to also acquire an Open AR and an Open pistola, right?

    Cha ching!!

Right on the first question, incorrect on the second. Any AR or Pistol can be run in Open.

Same if you have an Open AR, it forces you to shoot Open regardless of your Pistol or Shotgun division.

  2. From the Advisory referenced in my previous post.

Access to the declared firearm must be restricted, with only the passenger possessing the container combination or key to the lock. During the screening process, TSA may notify the passenger that the hard-sided container must be opened for inspection. In this event, it is preferred that the passenger turn over the key or combination to the screener. If the combination is sensitive, the passenger may unlock the lock, but TSA personnel must open the container.

Do TSA locks satisfy this? Why would you need to give the combo/key if it is a TSA lock?

  3. Nemo, I think it is worse. From the TSA Advisory

Federal regulations administered by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) prohibit the carriage of firearms and guns, as well as parts of firearms and guns (such as magazines or clips, bolts, firing pins, and other components), in the traveler’s possession or in carry-on luggage on commercial aircraft.

    And

All declared firearms must be unloaded and transported in a locked hard-sided container. While some firearm “parts” are not within the broad definition of the term “firearm,” travelers are advised to place all firearm parts in a locked hard-sided container to avoid violations.

I read that to mean that you also have to put the mags in a "locked hard-sided container"

And as XD mentioned, messenger slaying is a no-go...

  4. She's a keeper!

You have no idea. Every Saturday we go out to run our errands and she will often say, "Hey, let's go see Bill [owner of the local gun emporium]".

Translation: Someone is coming home with a new toy!

She likes fishing, camping, shooting and looks like a million bucks all the time...

And no, she does not have any sisters. <_<

  5. A selection process based on simple math is best. It allows any shooter who wants to be on a particular team to shoot the correct matches and then let the numbers fall where they may. By having anyone in particular choose the US teams, opens up soooooo many questions of exactly what criteria went into the selction. I would not want to be the person choosing the team.

    + 1

  6. Does anyone else have a problem with this whole "Job" "Hiring" and NFL team comparison?

    +1

Even if the Team Manager can avoid the pressure, there is almost zero chance of at least one vendor not pushing for their hired gun to be on the team.

"Sorry Mike, you have to stay classified as a 'U', you haven't been selected yet."

  7. Gary,

Your post made me run downstairs and pull out the Kitchen scale.

My Kimber is 33.5 with a KimPro 8 round and 33.75 with a McCormick 10 round.

How can I be that much (7 ounces) under your guns? It is with an empty mag, correct?

    Mike,

What model Kimber is your pistol?

    Chuck,

It is a Tactical Custom II (bone stock) in .45. I checked the Kimber site, and they show it as 31 ounces. I guess based on how it feels to me I was expecting my pea shooter to be closer in weight to the modified guns.

    Mike,

Your gun has an alloy frame. The chubby guns mentioned above are steel framed.

    Later,

    Chuck

    Thanks Chuck.
