Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Rich, Thanks for the feedback. I haven't looked through Sierra's manual. Do they list info for VV powders? Specifically for the N320 in a 40S&W? Thanks, David
  2. Jim, Thanks for the feedback. For reference I checked the OAL of some white box Winchester 165g FMJ rounds I had on hand. It was hitting around 1.126". Going back to your reply on the 40 S&W round and OAL, I assuming this goes back to the pressure, longer = lower, shorter = higher, correct? Wouldn't production guns be made to run at the 1.135" which is the "official" length? Thanks, David
  3. Jim, No problem on your question. The problem is that my Hornady manual is older so it doesn't even list the 40S&W. I did take a peek at a new one in the store but it didn't list any info on the VV N320. I found some info from VV but it didn't have info on the bullet type I wanted but it maybe close enough to start with. Also, the info on their chart listed a 1.126 OAL which is a lot shorter than what I read most people were using. The OAL is the area I am most confused about. Thanks, David
  4. Hey guys, looking for some help for my son who is 16. He wants to get into local ISPA so due to his age he would shoot in the Juniors. I'll try to be as short as possible on the background info. Not new to reloading but new to .40 S&W caliber so I need some loading advice. I've searched through the forums here and it has gotten confusing on working up some initial loads. He would be shooting in the Production class so just looking to make minor. He has a MRI Baby Eagle .40 full size polymer frame. It has a 3.97" barrel. Got some MG 180g FMJ's from a friend to try. He advised to try VV N320 so I've got a 1lb can to try. So to my questions. 1. What powder charges ranges should I work up? 2. I've seen a lot of people playing with the OAL and going longer than the normal 1.135". Is this to reduce the pressure and therefore the felt recoil? 3. What OAL length should I work with at this point since I don't want to play with too many variables? Thanks, David
