  1. I started shooting IDPA using XD9 tactical. After shooting my buddy's full size M&P with a Burwell trigger job I made the switch when the m&p PRO hit the shelves and haven't looked back. The grip is much more comfortable and my shooting improved dramatically as a result. Just recently picked up an M&P 45 to shoot in CDP.

  2. While IDPA is great for becoming familiar with your chosen handgun, it is also a game. I used my carry gun in the beginning but switched to a competition only gun to better my chances at winning the game. Besides a small number, I would say that the majority of shooters use different guns for competition and carry, at least that's the way it is at my club.

  3. My search turned up empty so, what do you pay for local matches?

    My local club has ordered a set of SC plates and plan to get matches going soon.

    Also we thinking of holding some sort of Spring/Summer multi-week league ona week night, does any one have any experience with this sort of thing? I was thinking 10-12 weeks must shoot 6 matches to qualify for end of league awards. Any and all thoughts would be appreciated.

  4. My local club held it's first of three night matches this year. We shot 4 no light/ low light stages. It is quite an eye opener for most of the shooter to the difficulty of shooting at night and the importance of having gear that runs. Clearing malfunctions and reloading with a flashlight in hand is unfamiliar to most but a very important skill.

    Also don't try to load your flashlight into the gun. :unsure:

  5. Is the M&P Pro SSP legal yet? From the buzz I've heard/read, sounds like it may give the 34 a run for it's money. But I agree, the winning gun in SSP is the 34. A nice gamey gun for SSP is the SP01.

    The M&P Pro is SSP legal. At least in the clubs I shoot the PRO has at least caught the GLOCK if not passed it in popularity.

  6. I said it before and I'm saying it again...I'm moving to Austin, TX. :cheers:

    Just bear in mind that Austin (and Travis county in general) is the most liberal, big blue D, and tree hugging area of Texas.

    {edited to get the colors right}

    +1

    That's why I won't move any closer. Being an hour away is perfect for the weekend visit but I do thave to deal with politics of the city/county.

  7. I have a 9L and it's been fine so far, although the round count is still low (well below 1000 rounds). Accuracy is good.

    One wart I had to deal with ... the barrel had obvious rifling problems right out of the box. I immediately emailed S&W with pictures and was told it had chatter marks from a broken cutting tool. They replaced the barrel. I had them tune the action at the same time.

    I can't explain why the folks at S&W didn't see the barrel problem during production, but to their credit they fixed it right away.

    I had the same problem with my second PRO. S&W replaced the barrel no problem. Anyway I am on my 3rd PRP and all three have run 100%.

  8. Seems petty to us maybe, but that is what he is supposed (and is paid) to do.

    I totally agree that he was doing his job but it was the manner in which it was handled that bothered me the most. If they simply would have asked about my whereabouts on the day in question, we could have had it resolved in a matter of minutes. Saving both his and my time.
