  1. We see this every so often at local matches. We let the shooter start with an empty chamber and rack the first one in. No PE's.

I understand this is technically afoul of the rule book, but these are invariably new shooters/new CCW permit holders, and I'm not going to either:

A-- push them to carry a hot weapon when they're not comfortable with it

B-- penalize them repeatedly and turn it into a negative experience.

I think being hard nosed on this issue will result in either A or B above. Screw the rules in favor of being kind to new shooters. Nothing wrong with carrying empty chamber. I did it for several months when I first got my CCW.

Sounds like the genesis of KDPA.

Until then, the IDPA rulebook is clear.

+1 Why have a rule book.

  2. Both "knowwhatamsayin" and "have a good one" drive me into "Grrrrr...!" mode for real. They've GOT to be two of the lamest, stupidest verbal crutches going. :angry2:

But whenever someone sez to me, "Have a nice day!" I say, "I'm workin' on it!" and I inevitably get the deer-in-the-headlights look. Don't people have any imagination??!?!?!! <_<

It is Have a good un!

  3. Just remember when you are trimming with the Dillon unit, then you are trimming the brass, do a Two count (1001, 1002) when it is cutting to let it totally clean up the cut. If you just try to go through the brass like you are loading pistol ammo, you will not have a uniform cut and it will be jagged and you will have another step to do for the brass prep.....

That is some been there done that advice......

Doug its always good to get been there done that advice, good stuff bro!

  4. I've been known to stick a black paster on the head of the target. From ten yards or so, taking all the time in the world, try to fire a group where every round impacts the paster. Now put a black paster on the top center of the -0 zone. Work your way out to 35 yards, maybe in five yard increments, taping after every pair of shots. The goal is to hit the paster -- take all the time you need. Pay attention to your hold, your sight picture and your trigger press. Know, in the instant that the shot breaks, whether you held steady, pulled to left, right or down --- then verify this by taping the target after every two rounds....

The goal is to know how much you need to see to make and successfully call the shot, for the different distances involved....

By all means spend some time on this --- you should learn things that will help on every shot in the match. Don't get too hung up on the distance though --- it's one target...

    Good training advice nick.

IMHO Those long shots are all in trigger manipulation and yes see your sights and follow through.

  5. I have been Hunting for many years and what I enjoy the most about it now is just being in God's creation. I like watching the sun come up on crisp Nov. morning and all the critters comeing to life and it gives you time to reflect and just be still.

  6. Try U.S Training Center {Blackwater} or try to get in a Ken Hackathorn class either one of them is good to go !

Hack's class was hard to beat though ! He trains the best shooter's in the buiness and they call him !

  7. Take that $1K and buy yourself a new rifle ;)

    A big + 1 on that Singlestack !

Leam I had a 1903A1 That was a tack driver they are nice collectible rifles that are accurate

but if I was you my friend I would save my money and have a rifle built custom to your needs.

    In the long run you will be better off. {besides them 03's with that steel butt plate kick like a mule}

Bobby will hook you up Leam
