  1. Is it or is it not okay to cut the tab and relocate the trigger spring in a Glock?

Is it or is it not okay to bend the trigger tab?

My interpretation. Yes. As long as the modification does not result in visible changes to the stock gun. And the factory safeties function normally. Shoot 'em up.

So is the trigger job Rich is doing at Canyon Creek on our XDm 's going to be legal?

  2. The thumb safety on my Edge was crazy tight when I got it. I spent an hour trying to figure out why it wouldn't come out the way every other 1911 thumb safety has for me in the past. I eventually found that I could slip a very thin blade in between the safety and the frame and pry the safety out (making sure it's lined up to come out, of course). I think I used a 1" wide spackling knife after using a razor blade to just barely open up a gap between the safety and frame.

The other trick I tried was to use some fishing monofilament and work that in between the safety and frame, form a loop and then pull outwards...but it didn't work as well as the blade. R,

Tried a thin blade screwdriver, not enough surface. I'll try a old feeler guage and see if I can pry it up that way.

    The fishing line didn't work.

At least I know I'm not crazy.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

  3. Having trouble getting my safety to release so I can tear it down on my STI Edge. It want release and I can't get a good enough grip on it with my fingers. I have tried using pliers, pull and wiggle, nothing seems to work.

    Any suggestion

It's a ambi safety, I'm trying the left side first, looked on utube found a couple of teardowns, it looks like I'm doing it right. I'm afraid to put too much pressure on it (I've been known to break things) but I'm about ready to start yanking and pulling.

    Thanks for any help.

  4. Here is the deal. I live in Massachusetts and we have all these dumb regulations and I'm limited to what guns I can buy. Basically, unless the gun is already in the state if I have to get a gun from an FFL I'm limited to new guns made by S&W, Sig, Baretta, Para, and Ruger. There are very few others. SVI is on the list as well but STI is not. I'm able to get the STI pistols without issue but that's another story.

Anways, I have a way to get basically whatever I want. I ended up picking up a few guns already from this source but am thinking of what else I "need" if you know what I mean. Since I'm mostly an open shooter I have my Brazos guns so I'm happy there. I have a few STI limited guns so I'm good there. I'm just thinking about what else I might want and the Tanfoglio guns always had my attention. I've always liked the CZ platform and since first seeing the Tanfoglios I've been intrigued. How are these guns and which model should I get? I'll be honest I'll only shoot it a few times a year but it's something I just want. Am I better off saving my money and just getting a basic one or just poney up and buy the Witness gun?

How hard is it to get mags for these guns?

    Thanks,

    Pete

If I couldn't get STI, 2nd choice SVI.

I have a couple of friends that shoot the Witness and like them but they seem to be very finicky about what type (profile) and OAL of bullet they are using. Seem to have a lot of nose dive problems coming out of the mag. Drives them nuts.

    My 2 cents.

  5. Received my XDm from Canyon Creek this week. Rich did a fantastic job. This will be my dedicated USPSA Production pistol. The trigger feels great with a 3lbs. pull and a very clean break. As advertised, the overall travel is 1/4" with practically zero over-travel and a short 1/8" reset. Rich bead-blasted my stainless slide and polished the flats by hand- beautiful craftsmanship. A 1911 tungsten guide rod, bushing and spring were installed. The added weight up front makes a significant positive difference in how the pistol operates; much easier to control. Extended mag release, fiber optic front and Bo-mar rear sights complete the package. Many thanks to Rich for doing such a wonderful job.

    Nice,

I'm wanting to do the same thing with my XDm .40. I still have question about doing trigger work and keeping it legal for production.

  6. I go to 1.130 OAL for the XDm. I go to 1.175 for my Tanfoglio, but you can't fit them in the XDm mag.

I am going to try some 200 and 220 grain bullets soon, and I'll post the data for both guns.

    What OAL are you using?
I use WST with MasterCast.net 180 lead or 180 FMJ in my XDm. I know you don't have WST right now, but I like this powder. It's relatively soft and quick burning.

    Minor -

    Lead - 4.2g WST

    FMJ - 4.3g WST

    Major -

    Lead - 4.6g WST

    FMJ - 4.7g WST

Crono these loads yourself, but they hit for me.

    Sean

Thanks, I just ordered a thousand 180 gr. and a thousand 165 gr. that will keep me busy for awhile.

  7. Zero 180 T.G. 3.5 grs OAL 1.135" 779 avg fps 140.2 pf 1.00" 25 yd group Best Minor Load works great in my Brazos, XD, and EAA. For Major I load 4.7 of T.G. or 5.0 of N320

Shot some T/G 3.5 grs, OAL 1.125, 180 gr, CT today. Didn't chrono but love the feel of the gun with that load, recoil was great. I also shot 4.0 grs. T/G and really liked that one also. Next time I will chrono my loads. Mainly shot WWB, breaking the gun in today. Shot 500 rounds with the XDm, gun functioned flawless.

I've been shooting 9mm's but really like the feel of the 40 cal loads. I may have to retire the Glock.

  8. What OAL are you using?

Most of the books lean to the 1.125 OAL, good question. I can load my STI really long not sure about the .40 yet.

  9. Just got a new XDm .40 cal. and was wanting to know what people have been loading. I have Titegroup, N320, N340, WSF and Power Pistol on hand. I want to start out with a 180 gr. FMJ or SWC. Looking for a light load for steel and then something for major. Been shooting 9mm so the .40 is new to me.

    Thanks

  10. What are the rules about shooting in Limited with the 9mm Edge 2011? I'm really mixed up about the rules. I mainly shoot steel plates but am thinking about trying different matches.

    Thanks for any help.

  11. Looking at the STI Edge. I just can't make my mind up on which one to choose. I shoot mostly 9mm now but carry a .40 for CC. I also reload for 9mm and would have to get set up for the .40. I will be shooting steel at the local club and not sure about shooting other matches at this time. Need something to push me over the edge.

    Thanks for any input.

  12. For shooting factory 230gr ammo, is there much of a difference in felt recoil between a 16lb recoil spring and an 18.5lb recoil spring in a 5" 1911?

A 2lb reduction in recoil spring weight (from 16 to 14) made a huge difference in my 9mm CZ, and I was wondering if I could expect the same in my 45 going from an 18.5lb to a 16lb.

I'm running a 16.5 lb in my 1911 and it sounds like I really need to go down. Good information.

  13. I am shooting a STI eagle 5.0 .40 cal. My rounds are 185gr precision bullets with 4.3g of TG. Wanting to hear what lb spring you guys use and why. I find that what I currently use is a little slappy. Any advise would be appreciated.

Good information. I guess the same rules apply to my 1911. Sounds like I need to go down.

  14. Thanks for that info Jim!That sums it up well for me,especially the "smooth 5# factory"analogy. It sounds like it would be a worth while deal.-Mike

    You can't go wrong.

  15. Hi all. I've been reading a lot, but this is my first time posting on the forum. That being said, if the information I'm looking for is already posted somewhere, please point me that way. I've searched but haven't found it.

I'm shooting a glock 34 in production division, and am thinking about replacing the guide rod and recoil spring. Does anybody know of a good combination that wont push my weight up over the "2oz over listed weight" limit.

    ...

I would also love to get rid of the slack-up stage in my trigger, but from what I understand you can't do that and still be legal for production. Thanks in advance for your help!

With similar mods my G34 is within weight with a stainless steel guide rod and ISMI spring, according to my postal scale. A tungsten or tungsten extended length pushes it over.

As far as the trigger, a Vanek drop-in production trigger should tighten the take up.

    Curtis

Vanek trigger system rules. I installed the Classic Trigger Kit and love it.

  16. I like this system it really made my Glock Rock. :roflol:

Just out of curiosity, which trigger kit, for what division?

I got the Classic it's perfect for the club meets. Best money I have spent in a long time.

  17. Charlie V. is 'da man for Glock triggers .

Wished I would have done it months ago. I didn't think a Glock could have such a smooth trigger. Just as good as my custom 1911. Never looking back.
