  1. Hello: My 2 Mech-Techs for the Glock 17/34 etc. have been great. I have not had a problem with either one. One has the standard stock and the other a AR 4 position stock. I did have to turn the scope mount around to get the correct eye relief for my Weaver V3 1-3x scope. The other one is waiting for either a Weaver or a C-More. I would order one with the 4 position stock. If you order the Mech-Tech in 9mm it will work with a Glock 35. You will have to get Glock 9mm mags. I use stock mags with Arredondo +5's and the Glock 33 rd mags. Hope this helps. Thanks, Eric

    Would the supplied mount work for an EOTech? Is the 4-position stock a regular AR stock? How is it attached? Thanks for your help/info.!!
  2. Hello: I think the one Mech-tech make for the 1911 will work. You will have to use the Para adapter I believe. Give them a call and see what they say. I have 2 Mech-Tech's in 9mm for my small frame Glocks. They are very accurate and work great. Thanks, Eric

    I've got a Glock 35 (.40) do they work well with the Glocks? I thought they were not out very long for the Glock and was worried about getting the "first" version?

    I've had my Glock Mech Tech for 5+ years, no problems. Great little carbine.

    Sounds good! I'll give them a call.

  4. I have some of his STI mags that have been great. I think Grams only does SPS tubes now. I would go here Freedom Gun Worksand get some of Bobby's mags. I have a set of 4 of them and they run great.
    Yeah, they said all SPS tubes. I don't know anything about those. Bevin just said he guaranty's em' 100%. I have STI with STI followers & Dawson basepads. Can only get 18 in but it feels like that might be hard to seat. 17 seems like the workable max.

    I'd get some of Beven's spring and followers. Swapping the stock guts out will probably get you a comfortable 18, if not 19 rounds with the dawson +1 basepads.

    I would also look at Brazos custom supertuned mags. They'll give you 20 rounds and they work great.

    I did order some springs & followers. Should get them today. Thanks!
  5. ALL, and I mean ALL of my mags have been tuned by Grams (probably somewhere around 20-25). 1000% reliability and Beven has been doing it longer than anyone and has supported this sport when there was nothing to support. Too, all are on STI tubes, save my 30 rounder that's on a SPS tube.

    Howard and Bobby do great work and I would go to them in a minute...if Beven stopped tuning mags.

    Sounds like a thumbs up!! I ordered 5 from them.

  7. At the first sense of a stoppage, keep the gun downrange, and LOOK at the bolt/carrier through the ejection port:

    If the bolt is half way - Pull the mag, cycle the bolt to clear the rounds, insert mag, cycle the bolt, resume;

    If the bolt is locked back - Mag Change, resume;

    If the bolt is almost closed - Bump the forward assist ONCE, If that does not close easily, do the stoppage clearing drill; If it closes easily, resume;

    Understand that any AR15 type rifle that does not operate easily is telling you something. It is either dirty or you have a gun problem. There is one exception - putting a fully loaded mag into the gun with the bolt forward can be tough. That is why may of us wear GI 30's with only 28 in them. Pmags supposedly reload fine with 30.

    Maintenance is required of Semiauto rifles. This best done after every range session or match:

    Clean the chamber, GI chamber brush, solvent, dry patch;

    Clean the bolt and carrier. Drop the firing pin, cam pin, bolt - get as much of the crud out as you can easily, and wipe it all down;

    Drop the extractor and get the crud out from the recess and the part itself, check that the extractor is still sharp. If in doubt, install a new one with new spring and rubber. Oil and reinstall;;

    Check the ejector with an empty case hooked under the extractor and pump the ejector. A drop of oil here is insurance;

    Find the bright spots on the carrier and bolt - They all get at least a drop of oil;

    Reasssemble the bolt and carrier with oil (or moly grease) on all of the bright spots, and pit drops through the vent holes in the carrier, exercise the bolt a couple times;

    Check that the gas rings will hold the bolt against gravity. If they won't get that spare set in there;

    Those of us interested in continuing accuracy will clean the bore using a rod guide, one piece rod, and our chemical/mechanical combination of choice;

    Pull the operating handle and clean the crap off of it and its operating channel;

    Clean any mags that hit the dirt, and any that have more than a couple loadings on them. Strip, get rid of the dirt, firing residues, brass and jacket shavings, etc. Reassemble.

    Some folks have other items, but this works pretty well.

    When a malf occurs, stick a paster on the mag and write the malf info on if;

    If it fed two rounds, the mag lips are probably in rough shape, and the mag will fail a "fountain test" - Load the mag, hold it lips up, and thump the base on a wooden block that is firmly supported on a table or the ground. If rounds fountain out of the mag, the body is shot.

    If it did not get rid of the fired round, and followed it with a loaded round, fountain test the mag. Maintenance should make all kinds of difference.

    My guns work fine with GI mags, but if in doubt, PMags won't hurt...

    Thank you for all this good advice! I will print it out and work on that dang' rifle!!
  8. Did it do this from the start of the match or later? With full or empty mags? I would check the gas block - it may not be open wide enough. Problem I had was that I set the gas block with a clean and oiled gun and once it got dirty it wouldn't have enough gas to cycle properly. Try opening the gas block a half turn.
    Thanks! I'll try that.
  9. Was going to take a buddy to a local match and let him try it with a G35 I've got. For production is there a round limit for mags? Can the mags have an extended basepad? I shoot L or L10 and am not up on the production rules. Thanks!!

    10 rounds and scored minor. The base plates may not matter at a local match, but rules say should fit in box (i.e.e no extended plates).

    If he's just trying the gun or the sport out, why not load them all the way and enter in Limited?

    That's a good idea. He'll maybe have more fun that way as he's new to the sport.
  10. I have a JP15 and I had the same exact problem at a local match last year and at the West Point match this year. After talking with Brock at JP we narrowed it down to the mags and he suggested using pmags. After switching to pmags I havent had a problem since.

    Matt

    I picked some pmags up yesterday. They look pretty nice! Hope they work as good as they look! Thanks again!
  11. Yes, you double charged the handle. two things will make this go away for good, oil the snot out of the

    "inside" of the carrier, you know those gas bleed holes in the carrier, fill them with oil every 60 rounds or so,

    and secondly, put some powdered graphite in your mags when loaded. Done !!

    You see an AR cant extract a round, extractor actually touching the round, until the round is fully seated

    in the bolt. If it jammed before it got to the bolt/chamber, ie.coming out of the mag, etc. pulling the charge

    handle only puts another one next to it. The dreaded death jam. When I get a jam in an AR the first I do is tilt

    the rifle to the left and look into the chamber to see if I'm going to pull the handle or drop the mag !!

    Thanks for your response. So many wanna-be comedians out there it's great when you get a helpful response! I appreciate it.

    Excuse my ignorance but, what are pmags?
  13. The 2 shell thing side by side ( or on top of one another) is NOT a rifle malfunction. There is no way that with the design of the AR15 magazine and bolt face that you can pick up 2 rounds at once. :o (Ain't I right KurtM?, go ahead, tell me I'm wrong.....you'll be lying!!)

    What probably happened is that you had a round fail to go into battery.....pulled back on the charge handle and fed another round....hence the dreaded 2 round pile up.

    Seen this many times......and as an RO, I see the round stuck at that wierd angle "saying to myself, drop the mag, drop the mag.....no, no, no, no.....don't charge it!!.....oops too late, now we are gonna sit and wait".

    So, assuming that this was a fail to send a round into battery, it could be a magazine problem (most likely) or just one of those glitches....keep track of that mag and see if it happens again. BUT, if it does happen again.....for the love of pete!!...drop the mag before you go and try to charge the weapon again!!!!!!

    Something I caught ...."1st 3gun match".......rule of thumb for newbie....when rifle fails to fire, and more importantly....fails to go click (trigger)....DROP THE MAGAZINE!!!! Free training...no charge!! :)

    Tim

    PS....OIL???? CLEANING???? what are these terms???? Kinda sounds like PRACTICE to me.

    Thanks for the insight! I'll take a second to look before I leap next time! Thanks again.

  14. I bought a JP AR about 5 yrs ago to use at Knob Creek MG Shoot "assault-rifle" competitions. Moved to Hawaii for a few yrs. and did not take it there. I came back to the mainland a couple of mos. ago and tried to use it at a local 3-gun match. Had some jambs where 2 rounds were nosed into chamber area at the same time, almost side by side. Pretty hard to clear! Needless to say the jambs blew the match for me. Any thoughts out there?

  15. I feel your pain! Gotta feel better than DQ'ing while shooting a stage, though.
    I don't know. Hope I can't make that comparison anytime soon! I kind of remember a TV show when I was a kid, I think it was called "Branded"? This was back in the early or mid 60's I think. Anyway the show started every episode with the cavalry troops standing outside the fort, as the drums are rolling a lone soldier walks out of the fort towards the officer. When he reaches the officer the drums stop and the officer takes the guys sword and breaks it in half over his knee. He's getting kicked out for doing something real bad. The theme song starts and the show goes on with his adventures fightin' bad hombres armed with a pistol and half a sword. Now I know how he felt!! But the good news is I plan on learnin' how to use my half-sword just as good as he did !!!!!!!!

    And don't forget about the buttons. They cut off his buttons. It was like total humiliation. But the guy knew he had not done anything wrong and worked hard to make a strong come back. We can all learn from this experience.

    All right! Someone else remembers that show! I was wondering if I dreamed it or something!? Was it in the 60's?
  16. Hey R-Finn,

    Sorry to hear about that, but if it makes you feel better, I got DQ'd at last weeks match :wacko: AD into the wall <_<

    Took me 23 years to get the first and the last one, learned to keep my head in the game and focus.

    C-ya,

    b

    Thanks for the encouragement 5-0. Sorry to hear about yours! I guess it can happen to the best of em'! Yeah! Definitely an eye-opener for me. Miss shootin' with you guys.

  17. If you shoot long enough you will probably be DQ'ed. As I have heard many people say, "there are two types of shooters, those that have DQ'ed and those that will be DQ'ed". Mine was a AD on the last stage of a match. I am also a CRO and have had to DQ plenty of shooters including Master and Grand Master shooters. No one is immune to being DQ'ed. Look on the bright side. You already have been DQ'ed so you do not have to worry about your first DQ. Learn from it and keep having fun with your shooting.
    That's my plan. I will keep going and actually am a little relieved to get the first one over with although I still have to wait for the first while shooting!?
  18. Rowdy-Finn, bummer, sorry to hear that.

    Sounds like you're not getting enough Krispy Kreme's up there.

    Take care :)

    Hey DonT ! No I've not had a good fresh Krispy Kreme at a match since I left HI. Maybe you're right! A few of those and my head woulda' been dartin' left and right and I wouldn'ta gone near that darn table!! Next time.
