Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. good advice. come to think of it, i was actually given those hi-caps as a high school graduation present, and i left them in ca when i moved. well, guess i can use them after all
  2. thanks for the concern a-shot. i actually lived in CA my whole life till i moved to idaho 3 years ago to finish up my school at boise state university. well im done with that, and unfortunately all the high paying jobs are in CA. the plan is only to live there for the next 5-10 years at max till my wife and i can save up enough money to buy some land in another western state. but you gotta make the best of a bad situation right? CA is a nice place to live, minus the over crowding and stupid gun laws.
  3. chuck- thanks for the info. guess i should purchase about 5 mags for comp then. if i can trade away these two hi-cap mags, then ill just need to buy 3 which would be awesome considering i still need to buy all the other gear required for uspsa shooting. but before i buy all that stuff im going to go down and watch some matches and see what equipment others are shooting. i just purchased my glock 34 today, but i have shot that gun before and loved it so thats why i decided to just go ahead and get it, but it looks like i got a lot of gear to purchase which should make my wife verrrry happy! -ryan
  4. actually id better not chance holding onto those 17 rd mags. so i guess the question now is, does anyone have a pair of 10 rd mags that fit a glock 34 to trade for a pair of brand new, never been shot or loaded 17 rd mags? ca really sux sometimes man!
  5. chuck, thanks for the info. so looks like im going to have to buy 4 new 10 round mags . that sucks because now im only going to be able to use my hi-cap mags when i go hunting each year in oregon & idaho.
  6. ok, thats what I have heard. the guy at my local outdoors store told me that basically they dont want you bringing any hi-cap mags in, but as long as you purchase like 2 10 round mags and keep the hi-caps and just never tell them you ever had them, you should be ok. so I guess if you shoot comp. in CA you can only use 10 rnd mags, or can you use your hi-cap mags and just hope the law doesnt find out? by the way mitch, are you going to be moving into the bay area? ill be moving to the east bay, let me know if you find any cool clubs or gun shops that are uspsa friendly in the area. the only club in the east bay that shoots uspsa that I could find was the richmond gun club. -ryan
  7. I currently live in Boise, ID and am about to move to CA within the next 6 months or so. I have been hearing alot that California is really strict on magazine capacity and that your only allowed to own a 10 round capacity mag. Is anyone familar with this law. The Glock im looking to purchase comes with 2 17 round mags, so will I not be able to use those in any matches I shoot in CA? Also if any of you know of any other wacky CA handgun laws that effect shooters of uspsa please let me know. Thanks for the help guys!!!!
  8. yeah maybe your right joe. its probably a good idea not to even worry about multiple divisions at this point. maybe i should just stick to the .9mm and shoot production for a while, then if i decide that i want to move on, i can think about getting another gun to shoot limited or limited 10 in the .40 cal. by the way, thanks for all the great advice all, its been extremely helpful!!!!
  9. so where is the best place to find out about reloading? i mean, how do you learn to reload because im sure its one of those things you want to learn how to do in person and not from a book right?
  10. yep ill definitely check out my local club and see what i think. i wish i could make up my mind. obviously i want to get the g34 because of the cheaper ammo, but i can just see myself getting the g34, then wanting to shoot limited and limited 10 and then id be screwed. if only i had more money for guns
  11. whats the advantage in shooting those as opposed to a g35. you can obviously tell im new to the sport. didnt dave sevigny win the limited class shooting a g35? i know he is obviously a greater shooter than i can ever be, but doesnt him shooting that gun validate it?
  12. heres the thing. i think normally i would start out with the g34 and shoot the .9mm, but im not one of those guys who have tons of cash lying around to buy more than one gun. my wife almost killed me when i told her i wanted to get into this, so being limited to a single gun would you still say choos the g34, or the g35 which will let me shoot limited and limited 10 without being at a disadvantage? also where do you go to learn about reloading? im interested but have no idea how to do it.
  13. ok so there is a difference as far as points is concerned. basically what the guy said is no matter how fast i complete the stage and no matter how accurate i am, i will always lose if i shoot a .9mm because of the difference in how they score the two caiburs. i just want to make sure i get it right because right now im looking at a glock 34 or glock 35 and depending on what i find out, thats whats going to make my mind up. also i have been told by several people who shoot that they shoot .9mm because of the cost of ammo, but from what i can see online .40sw is only a few bucks more per box. am i just not looking in the right place because it seems to be pretty similar in price, especially if you buy in bulk.
  14. Hi all- Im very new to the sport of USPSA shooting, in fact I dont even own a pistol yet. I will actually be going down this weekend to purchase my first pistol and am looking at starting out in production since im a beginner. I had a few questions though and I figured all of you would surely know since your in the sport. First off, if you want to shoot in a USPSA match, do you have to own your own gun or can you use another persons gun that is competing in the same event? Like I said earlier, im going to be purchasing a pistol this weekend but my brother in law is interested in the sport also, he just doesnt have any cash to purchase a pistol right now. So is it possible for us to both compete in an event using just my pistol, or is he required to own his own pistol to compete? Second, I was originally looking to purchase a 9mm but then was told by an employee at the gun counter that a 9mm will only let me shoot in production and that if I ever want to shoot limited or limited 10, that I need to get a .40 S&W otherwise I would be at a disadvantage points wise. Is that really true? Thats all I got for right now, any info would be helpful!!! Thanks!
