  1. I am a noob production shooter dreaming of open glory in the near future. Right now my focus is on stockpiling some mags so I will have them when I get around to building/buying my STI open gun. I've bought some 140's and 170's but in researching, it seems that every now and then some open shooters will use a 126 or 130. I guess it makes sense depending on where you plan to reload on a stage but is it common? How many of you regularly shoot with a 126/130 in a match? Should I grab a couple of those too?
  2. Thanks folks. I am laying on tubes for my first open gun I hope to build soon. Is there any sense in buying 126mm mag tubes as well? Some people seem to have them for their open blasters. I think all this stuff is going to get pretty hard to find soon.
  3. Want me to see if any of the vendors have them at the Nationals? I've got to mail some stuff out next week anyway, so it wouldn't be an extra trip. R, Wow! That is an offer. Much appreciated. I think I may just resign myself to backorder and get in line but many thanks. Steve
  4. I tried XS and couldn't get used to them. Installed them adn shot them in a match and had several misses on mid and long range targets. Up close they weren't any faster for me than any other site. I thought about pulling them off then I did some more searching online, drank a little more of the XS kool aid and decided I would give them a few more tries. I put about 300 rounds through them to try and figure out how they printed at various ranges. Then I took both my 17s to the range. One with XS and one with straight eights. I timed some strings on IDPA targets with each gun. The groups with XS sites weren't as tight (more -1s and -3s) adn the times weren't any faster. They work for some people but didn't work for me. They will be coming off very soon. I may try an experiment and mix the XS front with another rear and see how it works. Also, do a search on Glocktalk. Lots of good input there
  5. Any body have a suggestion? Seems to be out whereever I go. If not I am going to backorder at Infinity. Thanks
  6. Can't find an SVI 170 tube in stock. Should I back order? Any thoughts between SVIguns or Speedshooter.com for backlogs? I am assuming they are both about the same. Thanks
  7. Thanks for the advice guys. I just bought 2 STI 170 and 6 STI 140 tubes to get me started. I may add a few SVIs to the mix if I can find them in stock anywhere. Much appreciated.
  8. That's it. Funny, I shoot in PA with Barry and had no idea that he designed it. Hidden talents. Who knew? No wonder he charged me so much to work on my glock. Stay frosty at nationals, Barry.
  9. Some guys in my USPSA club shoot open guns that have a canted sight mount. Sort of like a standard mount turned backwards and bent upwards 45 degrees i.e the sight sits to the left of the top of the slide on a 45 degree angle. Glass is still over the bore axis but it seems to give more clearance for the ejection port and racking the slide. I have forgotten to ask who makes it at teh last 3 matches and can't find it on the internet. (I am a production newbie drooling over open guns so sorry if this is old news)
  10. Looking for some advice from Open shooters. Relatively new USPSA shooter and I've caught the bug. I been shooting production with my IDPA gear and have dreams of Open glory. I am eyeing an STI platform in 38 Super and saving my pennies but it occurred to me that I may need to stock up on the mags now due to potential election outcomes. How many mags should I be thining about? Would 10 be enough for a moderately frequent shooter or am I going to wear them out and be stuck with a nice gun and no mags? Should I be going all 170s or mix it up? For the STI owners: Should I buy STI factory or look at other brands?
