  1. Look on ebay. Euro optics has a demo scope on ebay right now with a "buy it now" for $750 with free shipping.

I have bought several scopes from Alex of Euro optics. He supports competitive shooting and you can buy with confidence from him.

  2. MTAC/TAC30 for a new scope, or watch for someone selling a Meoptaq K Dot that is up grading to something else.

I have hit plates at 425 yards with 55 grn hornaday handloads.

So what's a good price on used Meoptaq? I know so,some local that has one for sale

I have seen the Meopta K-dots show up occasionally in the $600-$800 range used. A new z-dot is around a grand new. The k-dots were in the 800-900 range new. They are built pretty stout.

  3. I have 2 170's ( old SV's) and 5 140's ( 2 SV and 3 STI's) that I carry to matches. I own a couple of 140's with stock STI springs, followers, and plastic spacers that aren't reliable and will stay in the safe til they can be tuned and have the guts replaced.

For almost any match, I start with either an SV 140 or 170 in the gun, the opposite in mag pouch 1, the back up 170 in pouch 2 and the other SV 140 in pouch 3; I use one of the STI's in my back pocket for a loader mag.

These are the only 5 mags I use with regularity and honestly most rounds are fired out of the two 170's and 140 #1.

I rotate which 170 is used from one stage to the next. I will rotate the 140s also and occasionaly use the STI loader.

The only real exception is one of those classifiers with 2 strings and two reload.

I doubt if I drop the 170's more than once or twice a year and they always work.

If you only want to buy 4 mags get 2 170's and 2 140's. You can also use the back 140 as the loader.

    My 2 cents.

  4. Some acquaintenances and I had access to 2 of them Saturday.

They were used in 3 or 4 different rifles each with different types of ammo.

I don't recall seeing a single a hiccup or failure to feed for any of the combinations.

Not exactly scientific, but was enough to convince me I wanted one.

  5. Gramms Follewer/Spring sets with JL Hardy steel spacers from shooters connection.

You may need to file/bevel the two legs of the "U" at the top of the steel spacers to fit at the top of the mags.

I use the 170 length springs uncut because for the 140's I prefer reliability over maximum mag capacity.

    Running 21-22 in the 140's.

Running 28 in one big stick and 29 in one with and SNL basepad that was sanded to fit the gauge.

  6. Robert,

Thanks, that would be great. I'm going to miss this weekend but might be able to make it to Heritage next week. (pesky vacation is interfering w/my matches...)

I will be at a funeral the weekend for heritage, may be able to find someone at MB who will be at heritage to get it to you.

    Will let you know.

  7. I have only heard good things about it from the people that use it, but I personally witnessed a squadmate at the nationals in Tulsa (the second year) barely make major at the chrono. (Added-- I am pretty sure he was shooting supercomp)

  8. I have been preparing to start reloading for .223. I have been trying to do some research on buying bullets. Trying to find the best compromise of quality and cost effectiveness. So far I have looked into MG and Widener's. Any other good options out there. Also supporting someone who supports us is important.

Edit that these would be 55gr used for 3 gun and training.

Hornaday 55 Gr BT HP with cannelure bought in bulk packs are an excellant blend of accuracy and cost.

Out of my Sabre 18 inch middy, they will hold around 1/2 inch to 7/8 inch at 100 yards with a good scope.

  9. I shot the Steel City Tactical Carbine Match this year. It was my first rifle match. I would like to shoot at least one major rifle match a year. I will be looking hard at the OKC match mentioned earlier. I would love to see a rifle only match at PASA Park in Quincy, Il. Seems like it would be a great facility for a rifle match, and it is less than 2 hours from me.

The Steel City Carbine match has sold out the last two years running with large prize tables both Sat and Sunday.

(See the string in multi gun for more info).

The challenege is you have to have enough long to med bays ( many clubs have only 1 long rifle bay).

Takes a lot of time to set up ( I thnk David Tapp takes a week to set up the big match at Steel City).

    Cost of ammo.

That being said, people came from all over the country to Birmingham Alabam to shoot the match and sold it out a few weeks before the match date even in this ecomony so their is a demand.

At my home club, we do 4 pistol stages for the monthly IPSC match, then shoot 2 rifle stages seperately.

Some people come to shoot only pistol, most shoot both, and one or two come later to shoot only rifle.

  10. This was my first rifle match and I really enjoyed it. Well worth the 7+hr drive. I will be back. Does anyone know of any other similar rifle only matches, within about 6hrs of St Louis?

Check the thread for the Oklahoma City Gun CLub under this section of BE. They are running a 6 stage match June 20th and are talking about another one in the fall.

I have shot USPSA pistol and Multi Gun matches there and can vouch that they put on a good match. The range is in Arcadia just east of OK City which would put it around 7 1/2- 8 hrs from St. Louis.

Sam Keen has also run a rifle match in Norhtern Mississippi ( SE of memphis) in the past.

  11. Congratulations for another sucessful match.

I don't think anyone can thank David Tapp enough for the time and effort that David puts into the match.

Thanks to all of the companies that contributed to a trully outstanding prize table. A great many people ( most likley better than 50%) left with prizes in excess of their match fee.

Thanks to the crew on running stage 4 with me: Peter Adams, Stan Shiparski ( Mr. Smith & Wesson), and Wayne Alcock, Things ran smoothly both days.

Looking forward to next year's match.

  12. Thinkin of building caspian in 9major, how come

I havent seen many of them in 9 major? Is it the mags

issue? Chime in if you have one and reliable as STI?

My brother has one (caspianguy here) that runs very well. His is as releiable as any open gun I have seen.

One of the challenges is 170 length magazines but Jim Anglin and possibly one or 2 others can fix you up with weldups that run.

  13. The Hirtenberger ammo dried up 2 or 3 years ago. It would make major in cold weather, borderline in hot ( Inverse temp curve, was designed for shooting out of Sterling Submachine guns in cold weather but they found it was too hot as I understand it so they dumped it here).

Ranger is pricey, but ought to come very close to major.

Of course you can always find some minor 9 that runs in it and just shoot lots of A's.
