  1. CDP ? I'm really confused now!!!

How is a stock 1911 Custom?

Then you can only use an 8 round mag max?

I need to get all this straight before buying mags ect.

I'm getting a Rock Island Tactical version and want to be legal before going to a match with it. I've shot a match with my Ruger P95 but want to try with a 1911. I'm not ever going to win anything it's just FUN!!

  2. I know that original 45acp ammo was lead but is there any drawbacks to using Moly Coated lead bullets in a Rock Island 1911 for IDPA ?? Commercial ammo is just too expensive and I load for Cowboy shooting and don't see any reason not to reload for IDPA also.

    OPINIONS????

  3. OK, that makes sense. But I just don't really like vests anyway. My BDU shirt works just fine and I got it for $12.95. It's just right now that it's a little chilly, if it gets too hot this summer I'll just roll the sleeves up. I'm used to wearing long sleeves shooting Cowboy so it won't be a problem.

  4. Don't understand the 'vest' thing?

If I saw someone wearing one of those vests at the local Wal-Mart I would know thye are carrying!

I just use an old BDU shirt, plenty of pockets and lighter.

  5. Wow, Had a great time at my first IDPA match Sat. !!!

Had a little trouble remembering to flip the safety off when drawing the pistol <_<

All the targets were covered with black garbage bags for some reason so I wasn't real sure where the center area was. Most of my shots were 1-3" low shooting w/2 hands. For some reason all shots 1 handed were dead center! By the end of the day they were calling me "Gut Shooter"

Had no trouble with the steel...knocked them all down with first shot!

Will go back, in fact a different club shoots this weekend, planning to go shoot there. This may be as addictive as Cowboy Shooting!

  6. I bought 2 pistols to shoot IDPA with. One is a S&W 10-6, made holsters and speedloader pouches and mag pouches. Ever since I got them it's been bad weather here! Too damn cold to even go to the local range and practice! Can't wait until I can make it to a match and see how slow I really am!

  7. I got the Pistol, It is a Model 10-6. It shoots very well! Also got a Wolffe Spring kit to make the trigger pull easier. Now, Just need to know how to install it

    Anybody ?

I can give you the same reply I gave you HERE  We get around, don't we ;)

Take it apart, e mail me and I can walk you through it. 10-6 was the pride and joy of many a Police Department over the years. Some (very few) NYCPD officers still may have them. I am still looking for one that suits my needs at the price I want to pay. Seems whenever they come up I am gun rich and cash poor.

    Regards,

I found someone who's mailimg me JM's video. If I have trouble I'll e-mail you!!

    Thanks!!

  8. There is a strong, active cowboy action shooting group locally. I watched part of a match and honestly wasn't impressed with the shooting ability so I didn't stay too long. They are very serious about the dress-up and props though and just plain boots, jeans, shirt, and hat would not have been acceptable. It seemed more a social event than competition. I did see quite a few families there and the 8-10 year old kids shooting 22 revolvers, 22 lever rifles, and 410 double shotguns was a hoot.

I would like to see a really good cowboy shooter sometime. I have an idea how fast they could be, but it'd be nice to actually see it.

Come down to TEXAS...You'll see plenty!!

  9. Haven't shot IDPA yet, but went to the Tyler club and watched. There wern't any revolvers!!

There's also clubs in Paris, Greenville and Terrell, close enuff to drive to. Will have to make time between Cowboy matches.
