  1. I had this same problem with my Edge, turned out it was the mag spring, not enough tension.

The slide would strip a round and at the same time pull the round below forward enough so that the nose was

engaging the slide stop. Replaced the spring and solved the problem

et tu Kz45. Same thing here, just my bad for not changing springs when I should have.

  2. I pull a 5th wheel for both just weekend gettaways and matches where overnight is necessary. Usually look up a campground in the vicinity, but dry camp is also a possibility. The major benefit for me besides some cost savings on room/meals, is the fact that I set up the bed in our RV to my comfort so I get to sleep in my own bed every night rather than fight whatever retrograde abomination of a facsimily of a mattress which may be in a given motel room that I probably would not want to shine an alternate light source in.

  3. DP - just found this thread and man are you on target here!

It never fails to amaze me when I glance (rarely) at a gun rag article where the author of the article is clad out in size 3XL tactical wear, vest, gloves, elbow pads, etc and shooting the latest and greatest whatever. Undoubtably there will be a picture of this icon of tactical-ness taken right after the round went off. The gun is pointing 45 degrees up in the air and the caption will read something to the effect of "recoil on X is quite managable as you can see in this picture."

    <_<

  4. ok, deep breath, <rant on> Family around me for the most part is ok. Holidays in and around themselves are an interruption to my routine, but other than that, ok. However, put the two together, and I am wishing I had dug that hole to crawl into and pull over myself, back in September when the ground was thawed. Dad's anxiety around the holidays is off the scale since Mom passed away. MIL is coming in for two weeks, and according to BIL who lives closer to her, she can't be left alone anymore (physically fragile). Daughter, my dear Daughter, at 38 has revived the delightful passtime of drinking and driving, consequently totalling her car. Thank God she didn't hurt anyone else. Now my anxiety ridden Father has fronted her the money for a new car. I mean what the H E double toothpicks! I am so ashamed of what she has done (which is made worse by my being an alcoholic with 20 years of sobriety), and how she sleazed my Father into bailing her out, I can't speak to her. Now we have to pile this bunch in a room to make nice for Xmas? Oh, by the way, the stove crapped out yesterday too, and after Xmas shopping sucked up the paycheck, I guess I will be putting Xmas dinner on the flipping barbeque grill in the snow. Hopefully, I will be able to turn the rant off by the time MIL leaves in 2 weeks. Crud, just crud, and no local USPSA matches till April. Do I have the only family who always has to go off the deep end from Thanksgiving till Christmas?

  5. "Umm..... can I see movies instead of going to a theater?"

That's another thing, 46 minutes of commercials before the previews start at the movies. Wait, didn't I just pay 8 bucks to see a movie and now I get commercials for cell phones, cars, soft drinks and whatever else they feel like foisting upon us. Probably one of the reason I don't go to the movies as much any more.

A PPV movie with my local cable provider runs about 7 to 10 bucks. Any movie on PPV has already come out on DVD around here, and can be picked up for 3 bucks or so at the vid. shop. A long time ago when I was in grad school, a theory was floating around that 50% of the population was incapable of abstract thought. The older I get, the more I want to revise that percentage upward.

  6. I have shot many 230 gr Rainer RN with out a prob. but now need a load for W231 with the 200gr "flat point" if someone can add it...................

    Tony

waiting with bated breath myself. Have the same powder, and Berrys 200gr plated SWC I am wanting to try out, but no chrony yet so would really like to see if any others have played with these toys. bump.

  7. Now GentlemanJim can take that doll's hand (the one with the uncanny resemblance to you) out of his big shop vise....

they don't do voodoo in NM

    Says who?

Right now I have my new single stack on a raised platform on my reloading bench surrounded by preserved bat wings and essence of Sedro Woolley.

Hope the finger heals quickly....we want to see a fair fight to the last target....fair being a relative term!

And this from a denizen of the City Different. No wonder I stay away from there. Also stay away from anything mechanical before a shoot, which reminds me, maybe a Navajo Healer would bless my reloader. Good luck with the thumb.

  8. Love seeing the kids there. You're a lucky dad. I think I see a benefit beyond just responsibilities around firearms locally as I have watched the young crowd at local matches take jobs to earn a new gun, or raise 4-H calves to be able to buy a new open gun, do their own reloading (ahem, as there were some feeding issues with Dad's reloads). Any of the shooting sports can evolve into much broader learning experience for kids and teens. Fantastic.

  9. I have this thing about having at least one spare of every part. Especially the ones that like to shoot across the room.

That's one of my favorite stories at the range. Guy is working on a .45 on truck seat and starts to assembly it and recoil plug shoots across and shatters side window. It was funny when it happened. :surprise:

I put a fresh dent in the new house doing that a few weeks ago.

That's why I field strip and clean at my Dad's house. Besides, I get to drink his coffee that way. Way snazzy video.

  10. Are you asking roll crimp vs taper crimp? Or hornady vs. other manufacturer?

I use lee dies in my LNL AP. For .45 they work pretty smoothly, but you have to modify the factory crimp die (it is basically a taper crimp plus it has a resizing ring in the base). You basically have to dremel a bevel onto one side of the die to avoid binding up on the ejector wire. Beyond that, you come out near the end of available adjusting thread when they are completley set up (although in theory lee is making new progressive firendly dies with more thread).

I would probably stick with a Hornady taper crimp die if I need to use one, but to clarify. I picked up the 3 die set by Hornady for .45acp. Is this not sufficient, and a taper crimp die a necessity, or load a trial run and see how they chamber in my Kimber before possibly adding a taper crimp die? I know I sound braindamaged, but never reloaded anything that headspaced at the end of the case.

  11. Will be setting up my LNL-AP over the next few weeks, as soon as this pesky holiday stuff gets done with. I am putting together everything I need as I haven't reloaded in years. The question at this moment is; is the taper crimp die a necessity? I will be loading primarily .45acp for competition. Thanks all. While I enjoy putting a loading station together, the costs are adding up.

  12. Woot. Made it to Grand Junction, Mike held a LNL-AP back for me. They had five when I called on Friday, down to two by the time I got there on Saturday, and a guy was eyeballing one of the two that were left on the shelf. 5 foot of snow on Molas Pass, less on Red Mountain, but it was a beautiful day to see the high country, and I will be sending in for free bullets this week. Of course, now I have started the battle with my wife over where I will put a reloading bench in the house. <_<

    Joe: Just seemed appropriate.
