  1. Wowwwww.......necropost!

To answer the original post, make sure your shoes fit. Lightweight hiking boots will probably work better on rocks than the trail running shoes I have worn the last few years. Some will have a metal shank for stiffness, but I am not sure that is a thing anymore

Since my last post in this thread in 2012, all hell broke loose. I learned new words, "Radiculopathy", "Spondylosis", "Facet arthropathy", and the treatments for them, which range from physical therapy (4 rounds over as many years), to epidural steroids, to radiofrequency ablation for the facet joints. And yes, good insurance helps.

I found lidocaine patches can help. The prescription ones are great but cost a fortune ($8 each in a box of 30), but over the counter, the Salon Pas brand seem to stick better and be more durable, though not as good as the Rx ones. Never used them on my feet, but lower back and shoulders benefit.

  2. STi stepped up big time as well; the table went deep in Tac and they also gave all the ROs a frame and AR lower. It was cool watching the WW2 guys rocking the Garands.

RO here. Not to diminish what STi did, but the AR lower was provided by Dreadnought with special engraving for the match. I have changed uppers a couple times but been using the same Bushmaster 1995-ish A2 lower (with a 2004 JP trigger upgrade) for a long time. Time for a new complete lower to see how many sponsors' parts I can get in one rifle.

  3. Y'all might want to bring some heavy bird shot also... just saying.... ;)

BigLucky is designing a stage. I would listen.

I have not seen the stage, but my guess is that larger shot (i.e., #4) is not required, but more/faster pellets would do it. And knowledge of how they pattern.

There is always a box of stout birdshot with me at major matches. Oops - I think i used them up, so better get more.

  4. Any word on round count. Is it going to be like last year with lots of options?

    Pat

Don't know the answer on that Pat, but the difference between this year an last year is that ammo is plentiful in a number of stores not far from the match (though not cheap).

As long as I can get Remington STX max dram 1 1/8 ouch of shot. I can carry the rifle and pistol ammo easily enough but shotgun ammo is heavy.

    Pat

I agree that "max dram" will be 1 1/8 "ouch" :)

Academy will have 12 gauge Sureshot Heavy Dove, which is 3 1/4 DE (1255fps) 1 1/8 oz of #7.5 or #8, maybe #6. About $6.79/25.

I can lend you a Rugged Gear cart, if no one else came through.

  5. Here's a question for those who've shot this match before. Is the prize table broken down by division and by time? Or are all divisions lumped together and then just broken down by time?

TXMG uses stage points, so not directly by time (plus penalties), but prize table is by order of finish, so basically fastest picks first. The table is divided by division, however, if a division has a small number of shooters, it might be combined with a similar division.

  6. Anyone got a call back or email back about cancellations? I have called several times, left two voicemails, and emailed with no response.

Who/what number did you call? Sheldon's cell changed a while back, and the old number was still accepting voicemails.

Match registration happens in batches. It has been a couple months, but the match registrar is recovering from a c-section so things have slowed some.

I am using the contact info below from the website. I have sent an email, and left two voicemails. If you have better contact info let me know, either here or by PM.

That is the correct info. I will poke them tonight.

  7. "2. Per Sheldon, "As long as I am match director, there will be a WW2 division"."

Cool. But WWII division most definitely DID get rolled into Vietnam Heavy last year. No complaints about what that did to the prize table for the guys in both divisions, but WWII division results were not even published, as such. At least not that I saw.

A poster above mentioned that Vietnam Heavy is not offered this year. I just followed the link from the web page (http://tacscore.com/texas-multi-gun-championship-detail) to the rule book (http://tacscore.com/TXMG/Media/Default/Page/2013-TXMG%20CHAMP%20RULES-Rev2.pdf), and I see that both Viet Light and Heavy are still in the book. Would somebody connected with the match please clarify this question?

I need to get signed up, but I am still on the fence about what division to choose...

    Good luck and Good Shooting,

    Tommy

I believe there were more WW2 shooters than Viet Heavy last year, but which got rolled into which did not matter so much.

There are some rule changes pending and we decided to hold off on the update until those were made. The divisions available are shown when you register.

BTW, the changes are regarding match operation and are not division related other than which ones are available.

  9. Since this will be first TX Multigun Championship, I have a few questions that I'm sure veteran shooters will be able to answer.

    ...

    Matt

    Welcome.

    1. Usually honored and you may be able to tweak at registration; unless your buddy has 20-30 buddies who also want to shoot with him. However, the squad list will not be posted until a few days before the match because experience has shown that people will fill the registrar's time tweaking requests and we do not want to waste her time.

    2. Per Sheldon, "As long as I am match director, there will be a WW2 division".

    3. Expect a slug or buckshot stage to have birdshot as well. Might not, but expect it. However, it is unlikely that a stage will require bird and buck and slugs. I buy shells that are different colors for different types to make it visually easy to select.

    4. How good a shot are you? It only takes one hit on paper to neutralize the target in WW2 division, but steel still must fall to score. I would carry minimum 6 magazines and load another at "Make Ready". Maybe more, but when I shot WW2, I carried that many and did not run out of ammo on any stage.

    5. Frank will probably chime in, but there are no good ways to carry lots of clips and be fast. I dropped a couple in shotgun trays and had a few in pouches. Some would clip them on a sling in the traditional fashion, but slings are not needed for this match and not recommended.

    6. No classifications, just divisions.

    Hope you enjoy the match.

  10. Looking at registering, this would be my first multi gun match. Would I be way out of place?

    Thanks,

    Shawn.

If you choose to shoot this as your first match, we will do what we can to make it a great experience. However, I suggest you shoot a club match or 2 before April to check out equipment, and get familiar with the range commands and safety procedures, so there are no surprises. If you shoot pistol matches, like USPSA or IDPA, that might be enough, but even then, one 3-gun at the club level before making the big time and money commitment will make the big match more fun.

Sign up or not, get out and shoot a 3-gun match. Most fun you can have with your clothes on.

  11. Can someone give me the layout of the match. Can you walk between stages with a cart or will a auto be required to haul gear?

First, there are just too many competitors and too many vehicles and vendor and food tents, etc., to allow parking by the stages. While all the stages are walking distance from each other, it is a long haul from the parking lot so a cart is a good idea. However, ATV/UTV/golf carts are ok, just not cars, trucks, jeeps, etc.

As Frank said, 5 stages a day, so 2 in the morning/3 in the afternoon, with a lunch break, so you need 3 stages max of ammo, etc., with time to re-supply at lunch. Actually, in case you need to head back to the car, there will be a break between every stage, since we use the shoot one/watch one format.

Expect wind and dust. And sun. It could rain. Temps could be 40 to 95. Check back closer to the match. :)

  12. Never been to Liberty Hill.

    Any recommended lodging?

    Bill

Burnet is a smaller town and might make more sense depending on where you come from. Georgetown and Cedar Park have more choices. The little place in Bertram looks convenient but has given bad experiences the last couple years. My rule for matches is to book the room even if I am not sure I am going to the match. I can always cancel.
