  1. From Mike Calloway...

Quote from Mike....."It is promising to be a great match with over $30,000 in prizes (including 25 guns) plus the $5k in grand prizes. We will have Shooting USA out to film the event and they will also will be shooting the match which will be interesting.

This is a National Level Match and we have several of the top shooters including Todd Jarrett, Jerry Miculek, Dave Sevigny, BJ Norris, Max Michel (Army), Kay Miculek, Phil Strader and others. I am sure more will be coming at the last minute as their schedules allow."

The Side Matches will consist of two events:

Pistol Carbine Side Match – Sponsored by HI-Point Firearms

Consists of a 5 plate stage using a 9mm Carbine.

There is only one string of fire per competitor.

Competitors receive 1 free entry per gun for this side match.

Pistol Side Match – Sponsored by American Shooters Edge

  2. I just shot my new JP-15 today for the first time and after the second shot the bolt wouldn't cycle because the adjustable gas block set screw blew out. JP is closed today & I would like to pick up a new set screw today from the hardware store to be able to shoot tomorow (and not have to charge the bolt on every round). Does anyone know what thread size the set screw is? Thanks.

Got the answer from JP's Website:

    Parts Included:

    - Small bore gas block

    - Three (3) 8-32 x 1/2” socket head cap screws

    - One (1) 8-32 x 3/8” stainless set screw

    - 5/64 hex key

    - 5/64” x 1/2” roll pin

Went to Ace Hardware. Bought a set screw for $.17 Installed the set screw all the way in then backed it out 3 turns. Gun runs flawlessly!

Glad to hear and a sweet rifle :)

  3. This is in no way a complaint against the manufacturer of the comp. I do think its the ammo.

Is this normal? Should I be expecting this? I am sure about the round count.

Has anyone figured out what this is? Build up or erosion? I have a comp that looks just the same. Did you lose accuracy with your comp like this?

My Comp has less than 300 rounds, Fed military and Wolf. A week ago we were hitting steel plates at 400 yards and now bullets are tumbling at 25 yards.

The comp works great, I really like it. It is definitely erosion in the first and second chamber. You can actually feel the funnel shape.

I have decided to not worry about it, frankly. I love the comp, it works great and I don't mind buying another one when I wear this one out.

So far, my accuracy is not affected at all. I really have no clue why yours has changed. I did take a dremel to it and cleaned up the build up, knocked off the tops. I guess the speed of the gasses vaporizes metal and forms "tumors" on top of the metal while eroding it. I just knocked them down.

I suggest you clean yours first and see if they are still tumbling.

  4. Since I'm leaning towards Limited this year I probably need to start loading .40s again.

Any TS owners out there with a good starting point, preferably with VV powders?

Was thinking of either MG 180 JHPs (200 FMJ?) or Zero 180 JHPs.

In my TS, I like 165 MG CMJ's the best. I use 4.9 Ramshot Competition, which is very similar to 320. Load with 180 Zeros was 4.4. Both around 167 PF.

For me, the 180's and especially the 200's, feel a bit lazy.

I actually enjoy the snap and speed of the 165's.

  5. Erosion is just a normal fact of life in a rifle comp.

I have JP comps with quite a bit of erosion showing.

shorter barrels seem to cause them to wear faster..may be the higher velocity of hot gas at somewhat higher pressures.

some powders may also make a difference.

Just as the crown on a barrel can cause a POI change, so too can the entry and exit of a comp port

The gas is expanding at a velocity higher than the bullet speed...so it passes the bullet in flight

The way the gas interacts with the port...has an influence on the bullet.

A crisp uniform and symetrical opening will perturb the bullet to a much lesser degree than a ragged hole.

When and IF you start to lose accuracy...thats when it becomes an issue.

    Jim

Should I be worried about the expansion chamber where I cant see what is going on? This comp has an expansion chamber before the comp port.

I cleaned up the tops of the "bumps" with some sand paper and it is now a funnel, not a straight wall port. I only knocked the tops of the bumps off, didnt sand more than that, but can feel a funnel on first port AND second port.

It is really not a big deal. I will stop shooting that ammo and replace the comp every once in a while, when I noticed a drop in performance.

I think this PMC ammo was made in Korea.

  6. I have that particular brand of comp, as well as the first generation one, and have expierenced no similar issues after several thousand rounds.

I am no saying its the comp at all!

What kind of ammo are you using?

I have the comp with solvent right now, after brushing it, the metal so far, is shiny silver.

  7. I have run hundreds (500+) of PMC Bronze through my comp'ed rifle. While the comp has been blackened inside, it is no worse than the other ammo I have run (mostly Remington UMC and Fed XM193).

Have you run any other ammo through it? Contacted the comp vendor?

I wonder if PMC changed their powder formula. If you have a borescope, look at the chamber. If the comp is eroding, the throat might be bad.

    Lee

Yea, I contacted the comp vendor, very reputable, and they said it was the ammo. No, I have not run anything else through the rifle.

The bore and the chamber actually look fine with the naked eye, I have no tried a borescope but will.

This is not just blackening, it is erosion of the metal, enough to create a dent and pitting in it. Comp is stainless steel.

I am sure the comp still functions fine, but I am not going to shoot that ammo any more.

  8. Just a warning from personal experience. I have around 600 rounds of PMC ammo through my AR. It burnt the ____ out of the first chamber of my comp. It is pitted with lots of erosion. I'd rather not say which comp it is, but it is a top quality one.

    I hope this helps someone.

  9. Thanks for the help people!

I contacted docterusa and they want $185 to rebuild my sight. I am not sure how good it will be after they are done with it, as in if it will ever be a perfect round dot. Anyone with experience there?

My debate now is whether to spend the money on fixing the Docter or just buying a new C-more, about the same money.

I wish someone would make a dot like the EoTech, a 65MOA circle and 1MOA dot in the middle.

  10. I have an older Docter sight on my open gun. It is getting quite fuzzy, more of a cloud. At 50 feet, it almost covers the head of an IPSC target.

It has worked for close up open targets, till our stage designer threw in some 40 yard plates. I couldn't tell where the plates were inside my dot, covered them completely.

I need to get it rebuilt, to get rid of the cloud shape. I have an option of changing the dot size as well, so trying to figure out what I want to go with for the perfect balance.

    Any advice?
