  1. I've been running the Warren Tactical Series-Sevigny Competition sights for years. Just got through doing a shootout between those sights and the XS big dot that will be published in the next issue of Handguns magazine, actually.

And I'm guessing you don't want to give away the ending here? (nudge, nudge) :)

  2. I've been quibbling with myself over this one for some time now. Mostly, I'm trying to train myself to ignore the FO, except when first acquiring the sight picture. But it's tough--the brain tends to pay attention to certain things.

I think the fact that I've invested money in the FO sights is mostly what keeps me from going back to black. ;)

  3. [i've applied this theory to all my guns. In fact, I've taken it a step further and now I only clean them when they stop working. It's amazing how much more fun shooting is without the hassle of cleaning. Especially with my Glocks which run longer than any other guns no matter how dirty they get.

    -Cuz.

Well...maybe not with my carry guns. ;)

  4. Little pearls of wisedom that have helped me......

Smooth = fast,,,,find the sight "get in a rythmn",,,,of finding the sight that is......double taps are generally going to be slower than a smooth rythmn (of finding the sight that is)

Don't listen for or watch steel fall,,,,,focus on the sights and the squeeze,,,,the steel will fall, listening and watching will cost time.

Shoot on the move wherever possible

Make reloads on the move whenever possible,,,standing reloads on field courses are time eaters,,,,a good course design should allow you to find a place to reload on the move.

Look at all the ways to shoot a stage, look for what wastes the least amount of motion.

These may be things you've considered,,,,I didn't assume anything, they're just things that have helped me.

These are all great tips. Thanks.

But in IDPA, I'm not sure I find many opportunities to reload on the move, given the use of cover rules. Any tips, there?

  5. A little trick Manny Bragg taught me was to put a small piece of scotch tape on your shooting glasses over your weak eye. Make it just small enough it covers your sights, but when you are transitioning you can still see around it. It works really well.

I've started doing this to deal with my cross-dominance issue. And I'm liking it! It's really nice to see the sights lift and return to the same exact spot every time.

  6. I've tended to settle on a similar technique as well, especially the part about using just the tip of the index finger. I feel like I can really tune in on controlling the break that way.
