  1. I should have specified that I am loading .40 caliber ... NOT 10mm

The other posters are talking about 10mm loads.

I just found out that I have a fractured T11 Vertebrae (which is causing some unreal pain)

and may not shoot the Nats after all, unless my Surgeon can patch me up in time.

I will probably revert back to a Minor Load if I actually get the chance to compete.

  2. I finally worked up a load for my 6.5" 610 that will (hopefully) get me through

the upcoming Nationals without a problem.

    4.6 gn N320, 180 RN Berry's, Fed 100's, Rem. Nickel Brass, loaded to 1.200"

I am averaging between 166.6 & 168.5 PF with this load and that is cutting is close.

If I reduce the OAL to 1.165" or so, will I achieve more velocity or just more pressure ?

Thank You for your thoughts, Howard

  3. Ya know, Bemis's bullets did not shoot straight in my gun....

but he's your friend Howie, so I didn't beat him up about.

    michaels

Maybe it's 'cause he walks funny ... kinda like John Wayne (Bless his heart).

I will pass along the bad news about the sideways bullets. I don't think

he has ever shot any through his STI ? Maybe he knows sumpin' we don't.

Seeya at the Open Match, Howie

  4. Howie, next time you come down, bring the gun and I'll chrono it with my 610 load and we'll see where you end up. I'm right at 167-9 with 180 billys and 4.1 of clays, just load them long.

    mike sousa

Otay, Mikey, I'll do that ... and maybe I can get "BOXES" to come along for the ride.

  5. N320 4.9 grains, 165 jacketed bullet, 994 FPS, PF 164

    N320 5.2 grains, 165 jacketed bullet, 1038 FPS, PF 171 (max load)

    Over all length 1.126

Lead bullets will run a little faster with the same load.

COOL That's what I am looking for ... Thanks, Howard

  6. I have plenty of 165 gr. Montana Gold bullets and lots of VV N320, 700X, & WSF Powder.

I also a good supply of WSP & Federal Small Pistol Primers.

I'm looking for a "comfortable" Major Load for my 6.5" 610, which I will be shooting

at the upcoming 2010 Nationals. I have severe Carpal Tunnel Syndrome in both wrists,

so Major Loads usually sting pretty good. At 67 yrs. old, half-blind, overweight, with

a bad "ticker", I don't expect to do anything more than have a good time. However, I

would like to gather as many points as possible and shooting Major will help.

If I "must" go to 180 gr. bullets, I can get a supply of Billy's pretty fast.

I would greatly appreciate any loading data you may have for the (3) Powders I listed above,

    using 165 or 180 bullets.

Thank You for your time, Howard

  7. Yowza, thems the wunz I'm lookin' fer ... Problem is, NO ONE Stocks them anymore and they have

    been discontinued by the manufacturer.

Any good recommendations for an alternate

    Fiber-optic Sight Set for N-frames ???

Hopefully, something I can get used to before the Nationals in October.

  8. Greg Ferris made them in the early 90s for the 610 modle and the 625 he did not get the manufacturing up and only made a hand full . I have one for a 610 hidding in the dark some place in my.....?Office?

I do not know if he will still make some or if he has any , you can finde him at Cedar Ridge Range .com and or I will ask him Sat or Sunday when we have our match

    Jamie

I do not remember him putting a finish like that on them though

I would greatly appreciate you asking him if he might have

another one for a 610 laying around that he would sell. It looks to be

something which might help improve my reload time.

    Thanks, Howard

  9. Really? Winchester Supers? They seem like they don't want to fit the Hearthco moons.. are they just tight or do you need a different thickness moon? The Starline and RP brass seem to feel loose but not that bad. Maybe I will try them again. I have an ample supply of Winchester supers..

I, too, have plenty of once-fired Winchester .38 Super Brass and they are too tight in the Hearthco Clips and

will not seat all the way into the Cylinders of any of my (3) 627 Supers.

No problems at all with RP or Starline in any of these guns.

  10. Yes, I figured the SAS Manual would be sufficient but I haven't found

it other than on a DVD.

I like Les Stroud's new book:

    http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_2_7?url=...sprefix=less+st

And then if you're looking for a little inspiration and realization on both what can happen to the human spirit as well as what the human spirit can do try:

    http://www.amazon.com/Into-Thin-Air-Person...1275&sr=8-1

The S.A.S survival manual is also good.

  11. I spend a lot of time in the Wilderness during the months with decent Weather and would

like to spend even more time there during the months with harsher climates and wide

temperature ranges from Day to Night ...

Therefore, I am looking for the Best Possible Books and Manuals available on the subject

of Mountain and Desert Survival ... I cannot utilized CD's, DVD's in the wilderness, so they

    must be printed material only.

Please reply with your recommendations for such materials and also tips on purchasing

"must have" items for these types of survival.

    Thanks for your input, Howard

  12. I am looking to see more responses to this post. Have been thinking about buying one but will hold off until I am confident it has been thoroughly debugged

I shot both slow-fire and rapid-fire and it never skipped a beat except for the (3) light strikes (out of 100).

Accuracy was excellent with open sights and I will try a Leitz ELCAN sight next.

We have a .22 Rimfire 2-Gun Match on the 22nd at Richmond Rod & Gun (CA) and I hope to be ready by then.
