  1. Do you have a Petsmart in your area? See if you can find one with a Pets Hotel inside. They have this thing called Doggy Day Camp, basically day care for dogs and my dog loves it. He gets to play with other dogs and gets tons of attention from the employees as well as several walks in a day. It's less than 20 bucks for the whole day. I can be gone 12 hours at a match and hanging out with my shooting buddies afterward. Guilt free!

  2. I install an SS uncaptured guide rod in every Glock that I get. I like the stock spring, though, and usually remove it from the plastic rod and use it on the SS rod. If I shoot an IDPA match, I sign up as ESP.

I see zero performance benefit. I just don't like the idea of having a plastic recoil spring guide rod. Could be an OCD thing. :P

  3. I've spent the last couple of weeks focusing on speed more than accuracy. Some tiny details that I hadn't really noticed before have been revealed to me. Example; Putting more importance on the reload(s) in my stage planning has resulted in real time savings. I always thought about it and I know how to do a reload but apparently I wasn't looking at it as closely as I should have been and was leaving a lot on the table.

Seemingly insignificant points are now appearing LARGE. It's like a big light came on. I can see the road ahead is long but the map is getting easier to read.

  4. I prefer the Aimpoint Comp M sight over all others but also own a C-more and an Eotech. The C-more, at least for me, seems to work best in close-in work because the dot is so easy to pick up, regardless of awkward positions. But, it's also probably the most fragile. Bang it on a tree or any other hard object and it's not going to do well.

The Eotech is more durable and the reticle is nice, especially the 1 moa dot. You can get a sight picture on a pretty small target at 100 yards without completely obscuring it. I do not like the way it turns on and off or having to push the up or down button repeatedly to get the brightness level I want.

The Aimpoint Comp M types are very tough and can take a lot of physical abuse. The glass is good and the on/off brightness control is about as simple as it gets. My only complaint about the Aimpoint is that the dot can get a "bloom" effect if you have it cranked up all the way. Maybe the newer sights don't have this issue. My newest one is a 2 year old CompM2.

The battery life on the Aimpoint is also far superior to the Eotech or C-more. The Aimpoint sight on my personal defense rifle stays on 24-7. I've replaced the battery once in 18 months.

Anyway, for physical toughness, holding zero, battery life and ease of use, Aimpoint wins hands down, in my opinion.

  5. I had that issue with a Dawson ICE magwell with the brass slug. It should slide in and out of the grip channel with very little effort. If you had to force it in the yes, probably oversized brass slug. I just worked on it with some emory cloth until it wasn't a force fit and it was fine.

  6. Shot this a couple of weeks ago with a Glock 24. Limited unclassified. time 14.15 hf 5.9364 I don't recall pts down but it was not many

    Classifier cal says 90.1045%

If that's right, it's the best I've ever done on any classifier.

  7. A few weeks and a few matches later, I'm still having fun with the G24. It's definitely not a 1911 trigger. The grip angle was easy to adjust to but man, that trigger is taking longer than I expected. Saving my pennies for a 6" 2011. Maybe in another year or so I'll have one.

Shooting Limited is a lot of fun. More time to focus on the shooting and less time planning reloads. Still UC in Limited but that should change on the next cycle. Shot the 1st four classifier stages while still adjusting to the Glock format and my scores were much lower than what I've gotten with a 1911 in SS or L10. Then I check the classifier calc with my HF from this past Saturday's classifier (CM-99-07) and it says 90.1045%. I'm thinking that's not right but won't know for sure until I see it on the uspsa website. If it is right, then that's the best I've ever done on a classifier.

The weight loss has stalled at 33lbs. Been eating some bad stuff and the heat hasn't helped me want to be outdoors. Got to get back on the path and back to making forward progress.

There's a lot of drama in my world right now but competitive shooting and spending time with friends is keeping me going.

Tuesday After Work steel coming up tomorrow. Going to be hot but It'll be a blast!

  8. For the 1st twelve years of my adult working life, I turned wrenches at a car dealership in Houston. One of the Techs would wear the same uniform 2 or 3 days in a row like religion. If he was at the back parts counter, I would find something else to do until he was out of there. The smell made my eyes burn and my stomach churn. I never understood why he didn't wear a clean uniform each day. They gave us 7 per 5 day work week! And the uniform service cleaned and pressed them. FREE. It was just plain disgusting.

  9. Thanks, Derrick! I consider myself very lucky that there are so many talented shooters to play with and learn from at our local matches.

I'd hardly call 1 match point or a couple of seconds over 4 stages a smackin' around but I won't stop you from calling it that.

I really do want to realize my full potential, whatever that is, and shooting with you and the rest of the star shooters around here is a great benefit for me.

  10. So far, I have used the Stainless Lightning strike, Aluminum Glockmeister and Dawson and the Dawson Heavy Ice. Of these, I like the Heavy Ice magwell the best. THe weight balances out my G24 and the outside angles that make contact with my hands fit me just right.

  11. After 5 or 6k rounds of 200gr Bear Creek Moly's down the pipe of my SS blaster, I have never had any issues. I'll drag a boresnake through it once in a while for grins but otherwise, nothing down the bore but more bullets. There's obviously build up in the bore but it has not had any effect on performance. I can still get a 50 yard headshot with it.

I think it is the 17 gallons of Mobil 1 you have on your revolver that may be a factor. :)

If you're not cleaning your glasses after every stage, you're not using enough oil.
